  1. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. As for the room, it is very challenging. I'm in a narrow tall condo, and the living room has two story high callings, plus a glass patio door. And, the mantle/shelf that my Heresy's are on is 12 to 18 inches higher then would be optimal. But it is home and what I have to work with.
  2. Do low wattage Tube Amplifiers sound better then higher wattage Tube Amplifiers? I am thinking the sound stage of my old rusty stock Dynakit ST70 sounded more three dimensional then my new highly modified Dynaco MKIII Monoblocks that has newer tubes and better everything else inside. Am I crazy? I also talked to someone that swears the McIntosh MC225 sounds better the 240 or famously popular 275. Plus I'm seeing a couple quality amp builders (tubenirvana.net and ampsandsound.com) selling some very low wattage amps. Would love to hear some general opinions, as well as opinion on the best amps to pair with Heresy II and Forte II's for listening to in a condo at normal to lower volumes. Last, say you're doing biamp configuration and only using the tube power to run squawkers/tweeters on Heresy II's or Forte II's, what's the ideal amp for that? Cheers Mike
  3. I picked up a McIntosh MX2125 along with a McIntosh MX113. Currently I also own a McIntosh Mac4100. I’ll be using the MX2125 to power Klipsch Heresy woofers, and a modified Dynaco ST-70 to power mids/tweeters (using a Y-cable, since there’s only one set of pre-outs). Do I want to keep the MX113 to use as my preamp, or do I want to keep the Mac4100 and let if function as a preamp? I’ll need to sell one of them, so I want to keep the one that will produce the best sound. Please share thoughts or opinions.
  4. I live in Irvine CA and I am thinking about buying either La Scala II or Cornwalls III. Though I have not personally heard the the La Scala's, things I have read on posts makes me think I might like the combanation of La Scala's with a subwoofer better even then Cornwalls. Are there any local La Scala owners that would be willing to open up their home and let me come listen? Hopefully on a Tube Amp. I'll bring a good bottle of wine as a "thank you" Thanks, Mike Kingsbury Irvine CA
  5. Though I've read lots online from Mach 1's enthusiasts as well as Forte enthusiasts, I'm wondering if anyone ever owned both at the same time and compared. They seem about equally price on craigslist. Looking forward to hearing some opinions.
  6. Ending up hooking up my Heresy II's bi-amp'd using crossovers from Bob Crites to the Kenwood KR9600 (woofers) and Tube Pioneer SM-83 (horns/tweeters). Have not tried it with Forte's yet, but really like how the Heresy's sound. I tried the same biamp setup on the Heresy's with the Mac4100 and Pioneer SM-83, and I think like Kenwood better. Great find for $150. I was going to try to resell for profit, but love it too much to sell. Beautiful blue FM dial at night.
  7. Just picked up a Kenwood KR-9600 and I'm thinking of using it instead of my McIntoch Mac4100 to power woofers on Forte ii's in a bi-amp setup. I'll continue using a YAQIN CD2 6J1 Tube Buffer Processor with either solid state amp, and power the horn/tweeters with a Dynco ST 70. The Kenwood puts out 160 wpc, and the McIntosh is only 75 wpc. Before I unhook the Mcintosh, I'd like some opinions and feedback. I got really good deals on both receivers, so I could resell either at a profit. Thanks, Mike
  8. Referring to Forte's (not Heresy's). The risers simply can be taken off?
  9. I'm thinking about replacing my Heresy's with Forte's Can you remove the bottom stands from Forte's so they look nice sitting horizontally on a large self above my fireplace?
  10. derrickdj1,The Heresey, Chorus or KLF 20's are 100 watt speakers. Also the cornwalls mike stehr suggested also 100 watts. Are you sure my tube 28 wpc will be enough power?
  11. Just aquirred a vintagePioneer SM-83 Tube Amplifier, understand tubes and horns are the perfect combo, and I'd like some imput on the best Klipsch's (new or used) for my applcation. Pioneer SM-83 is a typical vacuum tube integrated amplifier of the 1960's era. Has 12AX7 pre-amplifier, 6AN8 mediim-mu triode/sharp cut-off penthode inverter, class AB push-pull 7189a output stage with 460V plate voltage (claimed RMS was 28W per channel driving 7189a to the utmost edge), and a couple of nice Tamura (Tamradio) output transformers. To my surprise the tube 28W per channel sounds more robust them my solid state Prioneer SX-950's 85W per channel. And it is so natural and rich. Vinyl sounds wonderful. I've considered used KG 3.2, KG 3.5, or a new pair of Heresy III. Just want to pair the perfect speaker with the amount of tube power this amp produces. Would be eager to hear feedback from other vintage tube amp owners! Cheers, Michael Irvine, CA
