That looks like birch or maple due to the lack of grain... Tough to stain as mentioned... very un-even absorption especially the thin plywood layer you'd be dealing with...
On the other hand: Oiled birch ages VERY well; it gets a little darker and warmer year after year...
If you want Walnut -- Use Walnut. It's not that expensive or hard to do one large, flat surface. Let's face it, those speakers are awesome and you'll be staring at them for years: do it right the first time and feel good about it.

True.
54" is a little high for me. The final height can be adjusted with feet (bricks). I tend to aim for around 46". i just do not want to oversize the box too much, and the priority is to have the width match the 402 lens.

Separate question: does the K402 work equally well in a vertical orientation?

try to contrive things so the centre of the K402 is at your seated ear level for best stage and image. tilted horns up or down don't sound correct.
Agreed.

I suppose the difference I am proposing fro the DBB is I will not get the 6db boost from doubling the woofers in parallel. Therefore the squawker will have to get padded down to meet the woofer.

ill trade you some 510's for the 402's
Already have both...

a lot of horn on top of a pretty small cabinet. wonder about changing the dimensions of it. making it a tad shorter, but then wider and deeper to accommodate the size of the horn
That is the idea. i would make it fit the 'footprint' of the horn and adjust the height for correct internal volume. It could look quite nice.
I currently have the 402 hanging off a Belle clone. sounds great, but I want to hear it with a little more range in the low end: 35-40Hz is good for me.

like the bottoms on the kpt-325? or could do one like the 904s i have. in fact its a current production model so i am guessing it would work great!
Yeah, guess i'm looking at a 325 style enclosure: with a single 15" woofer. It will not be as efficient as with multiple drivers but this is for stereo hifi...

Hello,
In my ever changing way, I am thinking about building a Cornwall style bass bin for a pair of K402 horns.
Anyone done something like this?
Any issues you guys can see before I start?
I know that a horn or 1/4 pie would be well suited, but again, I just don't have the space in my apartment.
Thanks again,

Best thing about Crites Cornscala is that they are plug and play. Why change drivers and crossovers? Diminishing returns in my opinion. Just put them together as designed and they well shake your room to the foundations and sound great while they do it.
If you're more into custom and finicky there are great ways to spend time and money. There is much greater risk / reward going down this path. The 402 and 510 are untouchable.

The 1977 drawings are what I will be going by
My 2 cents? If I were you, I'd do what ever it takes to NOT use 3/4" plywood unless I was going to double it up on the outside or add internal braces. One of the main things they wanted to fix with the LaScala II was the sides of the original design. They have a strong propensity to resonate and muddy up the bass a bit, noticably so. If you could use 1" or put the wedgies in the mouth or something.....anything.... to fix that, you'll be glad you did.
YES!

Hey there,
Looking for anyone with experience in higher end Idler wheel turntables. I am wondering if anyone has info regarding the Lab 80 and how it compares to the much more expensive 301's...?
I've rebuilt a Lenco a few years ago and was really into the sound.

buy an older car...?

build so that the top hats are adjustable in terms of direction. A University Classic or a Dean are about the same size are a much easier build and can produce more bass and allow for two way use. Threads on this forum. Forum member Nico Boom has two sets of Khorns and a set of Classic horns and the Khorns are in storage. Either way have fun and enjoy.
The University Classic produces more bass than a K-Horn?!

music bounces around so much in you car. The speakers are pointed up at the glass or out of the door at your knees. I wouldn't worry too much about 2 vs 3 (4 or 5) way. I always feel like if you can optimize your car set up for 90's hip hop, you're probably doing ok.

I thought the closed cell foam was to placed to take up volume, not brace...
Looks like there are couple 'mods' being discussed at once. The OG post was adding a 24"x24"x1" piece of foam behind the driver (no images provided). The last images were a wedge.
Both take up volume: yes. I image the OG post also reduced higher Hz reflections in the doghouse.

Bracing drivers has always been a decent upgrade as long as it doesn't take up too much enclosure volume. I can't image that the foam trees stay stiff enough to real do much long term... just my 2 cents.
Perhaps wedging a hard wood piece would be more beneficial...

Cinema wholesale klipsch dealer... Shipped from Hope to my door. The freight was expensive.
Not sure if they're supposed to sell them as parts only and to the general public.
Just call around and see who will sell. That's how I got my 510s as well.

Just the horns, no frame or driver, ship for $300 each.
I'm using a simple 500Hz xo at the moment to get them up and running. Bob has a passive design he uses on his HF200/K402 set up. He's making me a pair.
