  1. I know, but the internet is a big place. We can all watch deals come and go... I like this because it's local and I have a truck. I would never pay to ship any of this stuff.
  2. What would you guys do? It seems like a great deal on some sought after gear.
  3. It's a little secret right now, but the ad has been on line for almost a month. I'm trying to get a hold of the guy... I think I am interested in buying the smaller stack for the MF and HF horns and drivers. I may part out the rest.
  4. There is a local classified ad consisting of the following: one pair - 4x15' LF drivers, MF horn, HF horn 3amps and 2 Dx38 Processors. $3200. and, one pair - 2x15' LF drivers, MF horn, HF horn 3amps and 2 Dx38 Processors. $2800 any thoughts on the quality / value of this equipment?
  5. The Kappa in my Belle starts to drop a lot after 400z. It is only about -3dB at 50 and drops fat below that. It is clean and clear at 30hz, but just not very loud.
  6. I've heard ported La Scalas. There is no going back to stock. That said, The LaScals were stock frame and stock driver. I think a 1" box and brace side baffle cleans up the low end quite a bit. Great thing is the port mod is reversible -- and alterable. If it gets a little muddy, one can always try aperiodic loading to tighten the sound and the expense of the lowest rumble.
  7. I'll get out my microphone and test set up this weekend and do a low end sweep for you. Feel free to remind me if it slips my mind. My ears tell me that the Kappa and the 510 match up pretty decent. And the HipHop records (Dimond District - March on Washington (Recommended)) tells me they go pretty low in the braced Belles. The braces are very recommended.
  8. They are coming along slowly. should be up and running shortly though. I'm almost done with my belle bassbins (I plan on using kappa 15c too). Did you need to rabbet out the motorboard near the surround to prevent the cone from slapping into it? That's what I've been advised on http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/268959-zobsky-contemplates-variation-belle-klipsch-4.html I did not have to do that. The Kappa was a drop-in replacement. Sounds great. I am still not finished my bins. I have been working too much, been partying too much, been working on other projects too much; and I am lazy. That said, I'm love the 2-way Belle, not sure how it could get that much better.

  10. Side braces are HUGE. The improvement cannot be understated.
  11. my understanding is that the individual layers within a sheet of ply alternate grain direction 90°. This is what adds to the stiffness opposed to the homogenous make up of MDF.
  12. I really couldn't imagine needing more bass from a modern CornScala: Unless you are installing them into a movie theatre...
  13. Dean, I understand EVERY alteration is a trade-off in some form or another, but I take a little comfort in Moray's thoughts above...
  14. Rob, Yes. All important internal dimension are stock Belle. I did alter the way the doghouse joins at the front to avoid the hard edge lip. I also increased the dimension towards the outside to make up for the 1" frame material. The top cab will be the same width and depth. I am making the internal height dimension 10 1/4" to fit the K510 horn -- I will not go back to a 3-way, so YES, it will stay a 2-way. The braces were all custom cut to fit precisely (they required very minor adjustments to fit tight). They are were glued and fit under pressure (sand bags and clamps) as the last item to be installed. The braces are required for best bass sound. Please see attached stock Belle dimension plans and a brief Custom set that outlines my changes. Belle_Custom.pdf Belle_LATEST.pdf
  15. let me know if you need any drawings or spec's... pretty sure most everything has been posted. My Belles are a little different than standard, just enough to make them fell a little more modern in look. I gotta say, I have experience with LaScalas, and the Belles (with braces and heavy baffles) have ZERO resonance in the side panels...Makes a difference: the large side panels are much stiffer.
  16. Thanks, ...but no matter how fantastic a speaker system is, I'm pretty sure there's no market for a stereo pair that's the size of a washer/dryer and is -6dB at 40Hz...
  17. I do not have very much experience with horns and driver combos, so take my comments with an amateur's point to view. I have not heard a 3-way system that is as coherent as a 2-way without spending a TON of money. My friend has $9K 3-way speakers (direct radiators) that are fantastic in that regards. The 2-way system has much more focus to the centre image than any 3-way at this price range. There simply is no contest for razor sharp centre image and placement of musicians left to right within the sound stage. With not having a tweeter, I do not detect any loss of detail or high end information through the rest of my equipment*. If I were to start again from scratch for any build, I would consider the simpler crossover and lack of tweeter as budget surplus to spend on 'full-range' horn and driver. The 510 does not suck. Again without a ton of experience and no 'double blind' testing, the 510 sounds awesome and huge in my apartment. It is huge; near floor to ceiling presentation. Very efficient. Great dynamics. I fear there may be a little thinness in the lowest mid range. I am quite happy with the horn. *the rest of my equipment: Grace F9 w/ Soundsmith Ruby-OCL VPI Classic Leben RS30-eq Leben CS-600 2way modern Belles
  18. After a few 'rough' calculations in WinISD... If I tune the ports to 38Hz, I should gain roughly 10dB at that tuning frequency. Which results in two ports 8"x1.5" and 7"deep. These dimensions jive with the port calculations posted in most of the LaScala bass reflex mod posts. Adding a further extra 60 litres (170 total) gives slightly more bass volume but with a steeper roll off. So, it seems simply adding the HF chamber works pretty well for the Kappa 15C driver I am using.
  19. Forum Member Nico posted this pic last year. I would like to have the ports as built in slots on the front of the HF section, however.
  20. I would open the doghouse up on the top into a sealed HF chamber. The total volume of doghouse plus the upper chamber would be roughly 110 litres. The ports would then be on the front of the top chamber. The 510/horn would remain a seal, self contained unit.
