  1. I want to thank everybody for their input in this process.  I learned a lot of valuable information that helped me make what I feel was a good purchase.  I've been looking for years for a pair of local Belles and your help and advise helped put them in their proper place.

And just so ya know, a pair of Belles fit in the back of a Nissan Murano no problem other that when I had to slam on the brakes on I-225 and they slid a bit.

    Congrats on your Belles...

  2. Just wanted to say hello as a new member.

I live in the UK and have recently joined the Klipsch user community for the first time  after  replacing my B&W speakers with Cornwall IIIs.

I notice that forum members don't seem to rate them quite as highly as other Heritage models, which worries me slightly, but to be honest I'm absolutely delighted by them.  Maybe I'm just making up for 12 bass-starved years...but they seem to be a very good match  with my low power DNM s/s amps.

I also suspect that Cornscalas might feature in my system one day - although with zero DIY skills I imagine the individual shipping costs of a pre-built pair to the UK might be prohibitive..

Welcome UKNorton & congrats on your new CW III

    Cheers,

    Jimmy

  3. After a resounding failure trying to buy a pair of K-Horns earlier this year it looks like I am on my way for a pair of Cornwall I speakers.

Im a bit more happy this time because although the K-Horns are the eclipse of vintage Klipsch they were a bit pricey and I was already reconfiguring my living space to accomodate two corners.

Ill work with the Cornwalls and don't foresee any problems. At the ready is a KSW-300 Sub.

Price is 650 CDN and I am waiting on pics of serial number for final verification of age.

Hopefully in a few short days Ill be the new owner of some Cornwall's. Money and delivery in place.

Pics ... All comments are welcome.

As someone posted before, you won't need the sub...just my 2 cents...

  4. Hi RonW,

I have similar room size like yours with lower ceiling (approx. 10').

    I'm running ST120 tube amp & SP12 tube pre-amp on my CW-I with Bob Crites's crossover.

I like to listen to jazz and when I play loud (3 o'clock position on the power amp), to my ears the sound of the sax/trumpet is just like somebody play in my living room with no harsh what so ever.

    Check their website on " http://www.tubes4hifi.com/bob.htm "

  5. YAH

They arrived no worse for wear after traveling 800km or so to me.

Finally hooked them up to a temporary source and they still sound amazing.

Dynaco tube will be here any day and final setup will happen soon. For now I have stollen a space in the kids play area. The only space available large enough to fit the speakers.

Thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions on the earlier posts.

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Congrats for your CW...i myself also got a CWI few months back & I changed the crossover (got it from Bob Crites).

So much in love with the sound.

    Cheers,

    Jimmy

  6. Just want to ask, if you have to choose between Cornwall I or II, which one you prefer & why? Is it true that the CW I is easier to work with because all drivers are mounted from the back while CW II is front mounted? Both seller said they are in good working condition, so no need to upgrade Caps/Xover anytime soon, but I will do the upgrade anyway. Cosmetically, the CW I has few dings here & there and does't seat on riser while the CW II is excellent (from the pictures).

The Cornwall I and Cornwall II are both good sounding speakers, so based on your current choices I would pick the one that is in excellent condition. Also, be aware that there is an early version of the C II and a later version of the C II. The early version is physically more similar to the Cornwall. The later version (1986-1990) has the flush surface mounted mid horn and tweeter horn and the crossover is attached to the rectangular speaker wire cup on the back of the speaker, which is easy to remove. If you plan to buy a larger style high end crossover for a later version C II, you will need to remove the woofer to install the bigger board and to snip and splice some wires, then re-install the woofer. https://2d73e25b29782b6d6766-9c8af5cbfef16739445bc76457060528.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/CW_Time_Line_MK_070522_635120773187750000.pdf

Any listeners with lack of bass from Cornwalls may have a speaker wire polarity problem between the amp and speaker, or between the internal crossover and the woofer, or possibly a room acoustics condition. I like my Cornwall II's.

Later version Cornwall II pictured below.

Hi Khornukopia...I'm new to this hobby and just picked up my first set of '76 Cornwalls. Haven't done anything to them yet but I'm definitely not getting the bass response that I should be based on comments on this thread. I'm guessing its for one of the reasons you mentioned above or maybe my receiver just isn't powerful enough? I just bought a Denon AVR-X1100W which was about the most I could afford and I also wanted to get into the surround sound arena. Do you think I'm just under powered? I've checked the polarity amp-to-speakers but haven't looked at the crossovers yet (I am planning on replacing the caps from Crites shortly). Thanks in advance.

    Adam

    Hi Adam,

I hooked up my CW I with my tubes amp in triode mode which give around 30W/channel, I can hear a lot of bass pumping around.

    Cheers.

  7. Hi.

I recently purchased a pair of RF-83s via ebay.

First up, I'm in Australia, where klipsch is much harder to come by.

I started with quintets, then upgraded to Synergy F3/C3/S2, and have finally stepped up to the Reference series.

    To mixed feelings.

Much of the time, the 83s sound truly phenomenal, and I couldn't be happier.

BUT... every now and then, with some music, I feel like the horns overlap, somehow, and pierce my ears :-(

I've never heard the harshness, before, which some people complain about with klipsch, but now that I've stepped up to the flagship reference speaker (arguably - or is it the 7?) and turning up the music leaves me unhappy

I have to stress, this is only apparent with some music.

To try to eliminate variables, I am only playing CDs at the moment.

I have somewhat of a wide range of music in my collection.

Jazz seems supreme - reproduction of saxophone is magical.

    Orchestral, in general, is splendid.

However, when I listen to Guns and Roses, for example, or even some of the hihat/cymbals on the Blood Sugar Sex Magic album by the chilli peppers, it's almost unbearable.

Hotel California is fantastic (as is The Eagles excellent Farewell blu ray, but I digress), but some Led Zeppelin hurts.

I am using a Cambridge Audio 751BD for CD/blu ray duties, connected via RCA into my primary amp, a Chinese tube/SS hybrid (Bada purer 3.0). This delivers 30wpc in class A, and then another 100 watts are available in class AB, and has about 120 hours on it, having been purchased specifically for the 83s

I have also tried using a Rotel RB976, which did nothing to address the issue, and overall sounded worse.

I was using some cheap speaker wire, so I purchased some 13 gauge wire from my local electronics store which may have made a slight improvement in overall sound, but has not solved the problem (and, to be honest, this might be in my head).

Is it just a matter of some music/CDs not working with the 83s?

I really appreciate any advice or assistance from any of you, as I was so excited the night before they arrived that I could barely sleep (like when I was a kid the night before Christmas!), and now I'm almost regretting the purchase

    Welcome to the Forum...

  8. Just had to share...

I acquired a pair of Epic CF-4 series 1 this weekend. They are kind of a replacement for my recently-department Khorns.

I've only played with them a little but my initial impressions are that they are very sensitive and dynamic (though not as sensitive as the corner horns), but that they have MUCH more bass and amazing imaging, even in my acoustically-challenged living room.

The finish is neglected so I'll be working on that this week, and then they'll be going into my main listening area in the basement.

I've been lurking for a while on the forum reading about all the CF-4 mods, and at some point I may attempt some (I've done my own crossover and cabinet mods before but nothing on this scale). For now I'm just going to enjoy.

BTW - any recommendations on what would be best to restore a faded cherry finish? I tried a little lemon oil which seemed to work well. I also have Howard's orange wax.

    G

Welcome to the forum & congrats on your CF...

    Cheers,

    Jimmy
