Well sort of- compared to, say, the Heritage line Fortes, Choruses, Cornwalls etc all of which I have heard. And what's wrong with pawn shops, as long as you don't go looking for trouble? Some of the best deals I've ever come across lay on the shelves of those places.

All the top corners look beat up. And that will affect the sale price. Take my photos of those speakers, and circle where you THINK you see corners that "look beat up." I am intolerant of horseshit.

Found these at another local pawn shop. Unbiased people on other forums say they are the best sounding of the older Klipsch lines, play deep and with enough impact they don;t sound shrill like some other Klipsch models are prone to do.

Why? Because obviously corner protectors and a couple of tiny screw holes affect the sound so prominently? Is there an eye-rolling emoticon WITHOUT smiling on here that I can post? aaah screw it--

See? This is EXACTLY what I am talking about in the King Klipsch forum. Priced out of their league? At $700?? Prove it genius.

Found these at a pawn shop, started a thread on it in the main forum: Shop owner said $700+tax, may come down a bit more.

To each their own- living in Arkansas I've owned lots of Klipsch products over the years, my favorites that I have owned were the Forte (and I had an Academy center channel with those, pretty hard to find now). I also used to work at the unversity video theater who had a contract with Klipsch and where they used Quartets which were awesome as well. Problem is IMO each speaker brand has a distinct signature sound, and Klipschs are very very good, but I've heard a couple others whose "signature" I just like a little better. My favorite brand of all time is A/D/S.

Yep. Come on over to Decatur- and find out it's a town with a population of 203, one cafe, one bank, and ZERO pawn shops. You'll note however the craigslist ad says Tulsa. Can't blame me for seeing if there's any local interest at $1000, where I could buy the speakers turn around a flip them and make a cool few hundred.

$1200 ain't walking through that door for these. Ironically, that should be readily apparent by the "knowledge of this forum given freely." Everything mentioned (corners suspect with the protectors, stained cane grilles, etc) degrades the value more and more. Only one pair went for $1200 on ebay anytime recently, and those were in perfect mint condition with the original boxes. So unless there is something the forum is NOT sharing--i.e. early Cornwall IIs, with the original Cornwall tags and the blonde wood finish backing instead of the more common black finish, are worth a lot more than other Cornwall IIs-- they are going to have to be passed on.

What's in it for me?

Naah I'm not buying them if they aren't worth any more than any other set of CII's- no room in my house for them, plus they aren't worth as much as the original Cornwalls. Shop owner did say he'd come down $200, making the price $700-- but I would have to pay tax on top of that which amount to another $60. Fair deal, but there are other speakers I like better. If however I knew I could resell them for $1100-$1200 I would probably do that.

OK guys- I went back to the shop today, owner was very kind and let me snap a few photos of these speakers. What I have discovered is that these must indeed be Cornwall 2's, BUT they used the original "Cornwall" tags on the back. You can see the "C-II" designation handwritten in the model line, but the tags say simply "Cornwall." Interesting. (At least I proved to myself that I wasn't crazy!) Serial #s are consecutive 8615721 and 8615722, making them 1986 model speakers I guess. My theory is that maybe the Klipsch factory used remaining stock of original Cornwall cabinets to make the early Cornwall IIs ?? That would explain the original tags, and may also explain why the back panels on these appear to have been sunk in and glued, and are the same blonde color finish, whereas other later Cornwall IIs have a black finish back panel. Please take a look at photos I have posted and see what you think. Thanks!

My real question was simply whether these were Cornwalls or Cornwall 2s, since they had the flush mounted drivers and recessed cup terminals (Cornwall 2s) but I seemed to remember their tag saying Cornwall. I think I simply missed the "2" designation on the tag. But am heading back shortly to look at them again.

Haha, I was waiting for it though The suggested price range posted above is EXAACTLY in line with what they are asking-- $900. Would really want to get at least $100 off of that. I would definitely test them out before buying.

My time around pawn shops has ensured me no shop ever ONLY asks for double what they gave -- triple or quadruple more like it

No one on ebay selling the Cornwall IIs with an asking price above what the shop wants for these has sold them... thus my hesitation-- I would buy them to keep, but I want to make sure I am not getting ripped off.

That must be what they are then- and I just missed the "II" in the model designation on the tag. I'll go double check them again tomorrow, appreciate everyone's help.

I might, however from my research it seems there is a bit of a value difference between the Cornwalls and C IIs-- if they turned out to be original Cornwalls i think their asking price is fair, however if they are the Cornwall IIs I would have to do some further research to see whether they were a fair price.

Thank you- that would make sense then- and I will double check the serial numbers. However did the labels differentiate in wording between "Cornwall" and "Cornwall II?" I am going to give myself the benefit of the doubt by saying these MAY have said "Cornwall II", but I am almost certain they just said "Cornwall."

Thank you- I am going to have to go back there tomorrow and see if I can take pictures of these, while trying to explain to the owner why.... Oh BTW, they also had the recessed cup terminals in the back, again like the Cornwall IIs. Very confused...
