  1. I had a Marantz 8B that I enherited from my father. I traded it on a McIntosh MC250 and never looked back. It was used with Altec Malibu speakers. The 8B is a fine amp but not worth nearly what they go for now. I am a SS amp fan, so I'm biased though! I got tired of all the heat it made. If you look at my person wab site (see below), you will see by fathers cabinet and the compartment it was housed in. Mu MC50 and MC250 are both in the same compartment now. To spite big ventilation holes, it got so hot the pitch inside the transformers melted and started to run out through the bottom! I also would burn my fingers every time I tried to adjust the bias pots.

The Marantz 8b when properly restored ( not stock ) is twice the amp as a 250. the 250 is good the Marantz 8b is fantastic 5 stars comared two 2 stars sorry. You just do not have a very refined ear. a MC 240 is much better than a 250. the marantz 8b is on a different level than the 240. this is my opinion of coarse every buddy has a different ear. Cheers to all you listeners out there.

I can't comment on the 250 but i compared it to the 2100 which is a better amplifier. The marantz 8b is in a hole other level in Hi- Fi than the 2100. 2100 a 7 marantz 8B 10. not even close. of coarse this is my opinion..... But i must say some of you guys need your ears checked. LOL Cheers to all the audiophiles at there. keep the music alive. I wanted to add running La Scala bottoms with altec 288C and 805B multicell horns with wood 30162 wood wave guide. sound is out of this world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and was your 8b fully restored bet not. Un- restored they sound like garbage period.

  4. Also enjoy some Micheal Buble, Andre Bocelli, Josh Groban  stuff.

Interesting, cause I usually have a leaning toward female vocalists, Black "soul" ballads and mostly Black artist 60's groups.

IMHO' the human voice, mostly Black, mostly female. is the Finest instrument.

  5. HI GUYS I AM USING A 1981 ATLAS K55 WITH ALTEC 805b MULTICELL HORNS. BEYMA  CP25 SUPER TWEETER CRITES A/4500 X OVERS.... ON LA SCALAS . THROUGH MY SYSTEM I MUST SAY IT SOUND WELL DAM GOOD OR SHOULD I SAY FANTASTIC. JUST WONDERING IF I WOULD GET A BETTER SOUND WITH A ALTEC 288C VS THE K55. THE 1981 ALTLAS K55 IS VERY SMOOTH GREAT DETAIL TIMBRE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS???

  6. Hi guys just had a Las Vegas Audio club meeting at my house. The La Scalas were a hit. Some of these guys have some really Fantastic Hi end systems. Everyone did not expect to here what they were hearing from my La Scalas. Shout out to Bob Crites for sending me the A/4500 x overs and the CT- 125 tweeters. Everyone  was really impressed. They also really enjoyed the JBL 590's.

  7. Everything jimjimbo said.

I like speakers like these (La Scala; Belle Klipsch) in a corner (more bass), but with some absorbers on the wall on either side (but not behind ... the rear corners of the speaker cabinets should almost touch the walls of the corner), and some absorbers at the first reflection points, plus a throw rug on the floor in front, about where the reflection from the floor would be.  Experiment; don't overdo it. :)

I tried that........  My Scala's sound much better way out front to me. Less bass but better sound to me. Just seem to image much better. Might have to try that one more time just to make sure. Thanks for the tip.

HI EVERYONE FIRST TIME HERE. NOT SURE IF I AM EVEN GETTING THROUGH. I AM THE PROUD OWNER OF SOME LA SCALAS I BELIEVE TO BE FROM LATE 80'S EARLY 90'S THEY HAD THE AL TYPE X OVERS. I JUST PUT NEW CRITES A/4500 AND CT 125 TWEETERS. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP FOR THEM K55. IF I CAN MAKE THESE SPEAKERS A LITTLE SMOOTHER I WILL BE IN HEAVEN. STILL SOUND A LITTLE THIN AND SLIGHTLY BRITE ON SOME RECORDINGS. I AM USING A MCINTOSH MC 225 ( LUV IT ) MCINTOSH MX110Z, SONY XA5400ES, THORENS TD 145. I WOULD WELCOME ANY THOUGHTS. THANKS, TODD

Hello welcome to the forums. Please turn your caps off :). Most people run a sub with the LS. They don't dig very deep so a sub from 20-60hz would probably solve the thin sound. Others will chime in with more info I'm sure. If you list the #s on the tag in back. We can tell you the year of your speakers.

ps. We love pics so please post some :)

I am using a sub already . Have another on the way soon. . The thinness is from the speakers. Maybe im just use to the thick sound of my JBL studio 590's. The # are rubbed off on the back tag so that wont be any help. Thanks must be some kind of upgrade for the horn I can use.
