  1. Obviously you have some interest in the 64ii or you wouldn't be asking the question. If it's an upgrade itch, I'd scratch it like I did a month ago. The 64 sounds a little bigger and more a tad more nuanced. There is a huge price difference between the two, but in the end I think the 64 will satisfy you in the long run. Remember, the 64 is a sealed speaker and the 62 is front ported. I think it loses a little bit of meat but gains in other areas.
  2. That's true quiet! Maybe it's just me, but I like Dolby hd for movies but for music, I prefer dts for its warmer sound?
  3. This is all 2.0 music and all at 24/96. Like I said the PCM and the DTS HD sounded the same. Max, I think the Dolby sounded over-baked not the DTS .
  4. I know lossess is lossless is PCM etc, but I bought the Bob Marley "Legend" pure audio blu ray (audio only) and it has DTS-HD MA, Dolby True HD, and PCM all 24/96htz. I switch back and forth in all 3 formats and the only 2 that sound the same are DTS HD MA and PCM. The Dolby true HD is a good 2-3 db louder. Do they have dynamic compression associated in their format?
  5. I thought the RF7's have a wicked impedance dip that most AVR's can't handle. I know your Denon benched pretty well though. To me pre/pro is the way to go because of the tech changes so frequently. You can keep the amp forever and just switch out pre's I agree about the tech changing frequently but the Flagship AVRs have also come down in price. It is the impedance dips you need to worry about with RF-7s but the upper end Denons are rated to drive speakers that are 4 ohm on all channels. Fwiw, the Denon AVR-4520ci can be had for between $1,000 to $1300 and that is cheaper than most Preamps that I've seen on the market and you get Audysseey X32 with dual subwoofer EQing which is pretty cool. True. However, I got my Outlaw amp a year old for $1000. Fwiw, I got my AVR-4311ci a year ago (NIB with a 4 year warranty) for $1200 and I didn't need to purchase an external amp--Right now I am watching/listening to Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD at -3 on the MV after Audyssey calibration and it sounds AWESOME in "9.2" . No clipping? I kid, I kid
  6. I have definitely made my decision to keep my "cheap" Sony player. Thanks for all the comments fellas.

  9. I'm sure that .03% bugs the hell out of you when you're watching a movie....
  10. Sorry, I guess I was just waiting for you to WOW me with undeniable proof that could differentiate it from an $85 Sony player. I'm well aware of Google and have researched it pretty extensively, but it seems arbitrarily subjective.
  11. superior build quality, regular firmware upgrades to compensate for bluray incompatibilities, superior video processors, dual HDMI, wide range of media support including all popular music and movie formats via DLNA or local usb connectivity, integrated streaming media services such as pandora, netflix, etc. physical media support for bluray, dvd, sacd, cd. shall I go on? Besides build quality, I can buy a Sony on a 4:1 ratio. I've never had a format not play on my player. My Yamaha does the video process..... So....oh, and the Sony has all the apps you mentioned. But yeah, please continue. . .
  12. I have a normal Sony blu ray player and I am just wondering for all the folks that own an oppo, what the hype and advantages of the oppo players are? Thanks
  13. Yes, the 770 had that issue. 7500 doesn't. I keep mine on 24/7 though
  14. **From a different poster on a forum** I have no dog in this hunt. But, in the interest of honestly & objectively comparing the 2 products, I'll post this info. Set aside the China vs US made argument, here's what your extra $800 buys you with the Outlaw/ATI: Power transister output devices per channel: Outlaw 7500 - 12 Emotiva XPA5 - 6 Total Capacitor Capacity: Outlaw 7500 - 150,000 mf Emotiva XPA5 - 60,000 mf Power Transformer (Power Supply) Capacity: Outlaw 7500 - 2 X 1.6 kVA (3200 kVA) torroidal with independent windings per channel so acts more like monoblocks Emotiva XPA5 - 1 X 1.2 kVA "In an independent review the 7500 was bench tested to 240wpc all channels simultaneously driven at Outlaws .03% rated THD at an 8ohm load." You don't get something for nothing applies Is the Emotiva a good value? - Depending on one's needs, yes it can be. Is it equal in max performance to amps like Outlaw 7500, Parasound A51, etc? - No Double the output devices means less likely to blow fuse, overheat, blow power transistors, and more capable of providing clean output power. > 2.5 times the total power capacity (both transformer + capacitors) means far more capable of delivering rated power (or more) to all channels driven simultaneously at lower distortion & greater S/N ratio. There is NO comparison...the Outlaw is in a completely different league than the Emotiva & should be compared to $3000-4500 competitive amps like Parasound. If the XPA5 is "worth" $800, the Outlaw is very much worth $1600. For my money, I'd buy the Outlaw or the ATI equivalent in a nano-second over the budget & less capable Emotiva. Time for the Emo fanboys to start posting their glowing accolades I have nothing against Emotiva, in fact I'd seriously consider their XPA1 & XPA2. But I don't kid myself that the XPA5 can do the same job with the same transformer as the monoblock &2 channel versions plus handicapped with far less capacitance on tap.
  15. I concur with everyone to get the outlaw. Mine has been rock solid and dead quiet. It is the same as the ATI2005 model that sells for $2500. I bought mine used because it was only a year old and still under warranty. It has 2 huge Power supplies and has actually been benched at 235 wpc @8ohm. Nothing wrong with the XPA5, but it is nowhere near the specs of the Outlaw 7500.
  16. I'd recommend Eric at Sound Distributors. Better price than Mike by like $300. Sound Dist are authorized re-sellers too
  17. Do you guys run in 2.1 direct or 2.0 pure direct? Trying to figure out which one I should do. I have the RF7ii's and my SVS sub and I've listened to both ways and can't decide. Any suggestions? Thanks
  18. I agree that it's $440 better. I got mine new with the rf 7ii for 2500
  19. I am a HUGE bass guitar fan. The RC-64 is totally badass for bass guitar. I don't know why exactly but all the subtle nuances as you say REALLY shines with this center. This alone is totally worth it to me. All the twangs you hear when the strings hit the frets, all the stuff going on inside of tube amps whatever it is, all of it comes out. Most people think that if a bass guitar occasionally gets pumped through their subs then it's all good but I say that's BS. RC-64 really makes a good bass guitar recording in 5.1 surround sound shine. If you don't care about that and am only watching normal movies, then maybe it wouldn't be important to you, but between the real wood veneer finish plus what I've heard it do with not only bass guitar but with kick drums, anchoring the initial strike of the beater to the bass drum skin to the screen, I would say go for it. As a drummer, I appreciate the beater being picked up with that wet fat sound. Like I said, the 64 is a better speaker but I don't know about msrp $1400 better
  20. Bill, I understand your sentiments. I just feel the price should be lower on the 64ii. Should I switch amps? I'm pretty sure it's a decent amp
  21. I love the rc64, but I really only hear subtle nuances vs the 62. Has anyone else thought the same? You think the upgrade is worth it?
  22. I have an spl meter and I took measurements from my listening position from about 14' away. On -25 it was around 85-90 db with peaks of 105 and that's after ypao That was playing star wars ii
