  1. does the link still not work? It's on audioasylum which is sometimes a little slow but it worked for me just now and when I posted it. Here it is raw if you want to try to copy and paste into the address field. http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/tubes/messages/123713.html
  2. I've been looking for a reason to show this link. The antithesis of the object of this thread ... I kinda see this as a room in God's house where he goes to unwind. Make sure to click on the 'more pictures' link at the bottom so you can see what a work of art this room is. After reading the description of course. tooooooo coool .. click me
  3. Randy ... are you referring to the SCD-1? If so, where have you seen one for half of 3000? to address the original post, I have an scd-777es (the very slightly detuned brother of the scd-1) going through very nice but not insane cables and solid state pieces into a set of slightly modded fortes with an interesting arrangement of subs. Playing redbook through this setup with analog pass through is as smooth as warm butter. Playing SACD (two channel) makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I've only had the 777 for a few weeks so my analogies fall short but the differences between redbook and sacd (at least on my machine) are more subtle than the difference between standard tv and hdtv on quick examination. However when you sit down and truly audition ... the sound is absolutely stunning with the right disc.
  4. I know a lot of people here go the tube route but was wondering if anyone might have any info on one of these are experience with it. Have a chance to get one that is basically new with a full warranty but can't find much online because of it's age so have no idea what it's worth.
  5. Finally finished the ad for the sacd player. Text is geared towards an ebay sale which is where it's going unless someone here is interested. Best offer over 1600 + shipping if necessary keeps it off the auction ... not a steal type deal but very fair for this particular machine. feel free to email me with questions rob@rlc.net SCD-777ES For Sale
  6. If you're not familiar this is the is considered to be the slightly lesser brother of the original SCD-1. Two channel like the scd-1 so don't mistake for the xa777es which is multichannel but (from most reviewers opinions) not the statement piece that the unit that I have was meant to be. This is an immaculate machine that would come with a receipt and ES registration form giving the owner the full 5 year ES warranty. A massive piece of machinery ... who the hell builds a 60 lb cd player??? I'm a Klipsch guy and even though haven't been lurking on the forum as much as I used to figured I'd see if anyone here was interested before putting the ad up in audiogon or on ebay. Since this isn't a 'for sale' forum I'll keep this short but if anyone should be interested please feel free to email me and I can send info and photos. Anyone that living close would be welcome to stop by. If it's uncool to post like this here please let me know. rob@rlc.net
  7. Since you're already thinking about the sony amp you might want to consider the 9000 controller/pre-amp that's it's mate. The Nov/Dec issue of The Perfect Vision re-reviews the TA-E9000ES after the firmware upgrade and gives it an extremely positive write up. If you look around you can find them pretty cheap and although it doesn't come with the newest version of the firmware you can buy an upgrade kit or, I believe, download it for free from a couple of place on the web. I don't own this particular controller but happened to have bought that issue of the mag when I was tv shopping.
  8. Kinda figured. The forte was always my favorite sounding speaker and we had those exotic wood samples hanging on the wall at the store so my dream had always been the forte in ebony. When we got the notice that they were discontinuing the exotic woods called the factory and they had one pair on hand with no more being built. Salesman could actually buy them under cost so the HUGE markup for the custom wood wasn't quite as painful as it could have been. Asked them if I could get Paul to sign the stickers and they didn't sound to promising since the speakers were already boxed but when they arrived saw that Paul had signed two new inspection stickers and placed them over the originals. Khorns in ebony .... wow ... I'd be willing to drop a pretty big chunk of change just for the sheer visual impact they must make.
  9. fwiw, I bought a pair of rs-3's and an rc-3 from them and (Chris, I believe her name was) was great. Very friendly, double boxed and arrived on time. While I'm on the subject ... I'm probably going to be moving up to the rs-7's in the next month or so and will be looking to sell the 3's if anyone thinks they'll be looking in that timeframe.
  10. First, I'm looking for a pair of Fortes to add to the pair I have now. Preferably Forte I's in Walnut to keep them as close to what I have now but will be more flexible the longer it takes to track down a pair. Second ... the question. The speakers that I have are a pair of Forte I's that I bought back in college while I was working part time at a shop that sold Klisch. Don't know if you remember that you used to be able to special order any of the higher level klipsch in several exotic wood finishes. What I have is the last pair of Fortes that were ever made with the ebony veneer (looks like brown and black tiger stripes) and the inspection stickers on these were hand signed by Paul which he used to do on occasion with special orders. Was just curious as to how unique these things actually are.
