  1. Well I have lots of hours on these now :). Checked polarity . Checked gaskets. I just cant wait to get my kit from simply speakers!! I'm getting used to the sound of these drivers. They just cant handle the power .. I think in all honesty they are getting weaker. Starting to get distortion at 20 watts now. Gonna do the rebuild and go from there. Might just have to fork up the change and buy a new set of Klipsch!!! I love my music so Whatever it takes Dont get me wrong these drivers do sound good as replacements!! I bet they would be fantastic on a 20 watt tube amp. Thats not what i have :(.
  2. I just might be pushing them too hard. I dont know how i got away with it so long before I had a failure . When i did Upgrade the tweets the nuts had backed off the horns the magnets were ready to fall off but they still sounded good!!! WOW Tough *** speakers all i can say!! Got my rebuild kits on the way . I will let you guys know how this plays out
  3. Yep thats them got them from a guy at work still in the original mint condition with boxes, The tfm-45 amp and the carver ct-17 for a $100 bucks Original woofers look just like that
  4. sounds like me!!! drink too much play it loud every morning for 2 hours
  5. nevermind Ill redo the old ones and let you guys know thanks for the help
  6. looked like they had new ones on the back.. Maybe they were split ill put he old ones under them maybe that will help!!!!
  7. well hey "gaskets" umm should i have reused the old ones
  8. yea they are me and bob have had several conversations on the phone ..
  9. yes no leaks.. well ill just let them run for a while .. I'm not gonna be nervous about running them at a 100 watts then.. If they are rated for 150 should be ok . We will see if they break in or not. got 30 plus hours on them now.. In the mean time I'll rebuild the old ones
  10. 30 hours at low mid and high volume mostly mid volume untill recent .. thats when i didnt like them
  11. the blown originals are stiffer than the new ones... and smooth ohm out fine . I think the surround failed from age
  12. they move too much!!! like they are a weaker speaker LOL!! This is in a 14x16 room. I know its loud even at 50 watts!! But i want that punch in the chest feel the old drivers had. I cant get it with the new ones Unless it distorts
  13. no bobs have the diff edge .. that might be the problem.. The originals were inverted rubber worked fine!!!
  14. might be what happened to me. for about a year everyday i gave them a 100 watts sounded great!!! No distortion!!! just solid bliss
  15. Well I gonna fix the edge on the old woofers with the kit when i get it.. If all goes well I'll report back But from what i have heard so far Bobs replacement woofers might be fine for somebody jammin at 50 watts or less ..dont even try 90 watts they might die!!! even the the woofer feels way more easy to move by hand than the stock ones with a bad edge...
  16. Thats why i got on here .. I called Bob he told me they are sonic same when i asked him about power input said they were higher than the originals, but now i dont get the volume or the bass responce i had with the originals... Told me that basically that . Well he told me nothing said i had a leaky cabinet LOL they are perfect!!! so im just looking for suggestions or maybe some info on what to do.. Like i said they seem like a great replacement but they cant handle the power anymore or the sound level... thought maybe somebody else had this problem..
  17. talked to speaker rebuild place, they told me an accordion edge speaker will not perform like a rolled rubber edge speaker.. If they are telling the truth that might be my problem.. Bought a kit from a website called simplyspeakers..
  18. The bob crites replacement drivers are like the first pic.. The originals had a single rolled edge rubber on the forte 2s
  19. Well i had a failure one of the original drivers failed on the forte 2 .. I did the upgrade to his drivers 12s and redid the crossovers cap kit and the tweets... Now What i find is these cant handle the bass input and sound kinda shitty at 90 watts . They cant handle the carver Tfm-45 anymore?? 50 watts on the meter is good!!! But i dont get the sound level i had before .. the stock drivers would handle 100 watts and sounded great!!! untill the foam/ rubber edge gave out Any suggestions ??? Just bought a rebuild kit for the old drivers gonna do it my self See if i can get the sound back !!!
  20. I was talking too an old buddy on facebook .. Said he bought a set of klipsch belle for $1800 bucks . Hes doin upgrades on them now .. Man that seems like lots money. LOL They were all original grills and all but damn man thats some money...
  21. If u can solder its really not that hard. Just read and read again the values keep polarity right .. do a little research look for bad grounds and i was in , but i have worked on TVs and small electronics for a hobby since i was a kid LOL.. Seemed easy for me .. My ct-17 turned out to be all in the power supply.. But its not perfect yet , but i dont know what perfect is . I have not had this stuff that long I'm still just a newbie LOL
  22. I think he bought all this stuff back in the early 90s.. Thats what the boxes said anyway Like i said already had to cap the carver cant find any info on the Audio Control " The Rialto" but i like the way it enhances the sound and it looks cool..
  23. The first time i saw Klipsch speakers was in a bar. That was back in 1995.. Billy Joes Picture show thought damn this place rocks... Thats why when my friend said i got some old Klipsch speakers in the Basement and some other stuff u can have I said cool ill take it ,But like i said didnt know it was this good LOL
  24. Ok i will leave the speakers alone for now they sound good.. I think the small humm i am getting now might be from the EQ or cables.. I'll have to check later.. Other than the hiccup in the carver im back on track.. This shit is fun !!!!!
  25. After doing research too.. Looks as if replacing The caps in the speaker crossover might be a good thing also, but looks like a may or may not be the thing too do.. Some say keep it original. What u guys think I'm already impressed by the sound. Should i leave well enough alone??
