Thanks for the advice.  The Khorns were just on demo for a week or 2, just to hear what "Heritage Series" are all about.  I bought a pair of La Scala II's instead.

Now I encountered a sub-speaker matching problem.  Here on the forum I have been advised that horn loaded mains mean horn loaded subs.  Since Klipsch doesn't have one in their line up (something to put in a living room) it 'll be a DIY project.  I'm planning to build a pair of Tapped Horns with dual 12" drivers, probably powered by a crown XTI series amp.

I would see if you can get a Rel Strata 2, relatively cheap and they sound great for music!

Since a few days I have a pair of Klipschorns on demo.  Mid/Highs sound very defined, hi-res, great soundstage... impressive.  Bass is a bit of a problem, because I don't have 2 free corners to put them in.  But, when the volume is turned up mid/highs become harsh and fatiguing.  What could be the problem?

Is it a matter of speaker-amp matching?

    Room acoustics?

The owner of the Khorns says they have played for only a few hours, so maybe is it matter of breaking in?

I saw someone in Marktplaats who made fake corners for the Klipschorn. Maybe that's something you can look into?

Considering your location, availability, and hassle, I would keep them. The foot won't be noticeable, the wood showing by the port can be fixed with a marker, paint, or caulk.

I think I'll just tell the store what the issue is, with a discount or a great deal on a center I'd be happy. Since there are no other RF7s, they'll have to give me the newer ones when they get out for the same price, I don't want the newer ones since these look better haha. I don't like the black front with cherry veneer.

Well, you could have just changed the original thread title from "Ordered my RF-7's..." to "Just got my RF-7's" and it could have just continued on in one thread.  You can change the title any time.  Was just a thought.

Ah, this I didn't know. Makes sense haha.

The top foot is off a little bit. Just a few degrees, as I said, you hardly notice it. Let alone notice it when it's standing on the floor.IMG_20170505_215742.thumb.jpg.7a20ce4eeb5db3c55a0eba43e2892a3d.jpg

The paper inside the bass port is not completely behind the plastic port, and the wood is visible through the veneer at the left edge.

Edit: Ironic that about 15cm lower there's an inspected and approved sticker haha.

He's in the Netherlands if I remember correctly from the other threat that he was about to order them.

I picked them up today, and, these were the last one. The feet are in perfect condition, the holes in bottom plate are drilled incorrectly, this is something which doesn't change performance and it isn't even noticable, also the port on the rear. Perhaps I will call the dealer about this, problem is, there aren't any more. They had 2 pairs, both of them were reserved (one for me) and I have no clue if these are still available, also, it's a 110kilometer drive, just the drive, and hassle of getting the speakers there would cost me about 20 euro's... I'm in doubt what to do. I'll upload pictures from my phone in a second.

  7. Hey everyone,

I just picked up and installed my RF-7's. I got them in Black since Cherry was unavailable in the entire country and at the distributor. First things first, right out of the box, a few cosmetic issues, one of the feet wasn't drilled correctly, so it sits at an angle. And at the other side the veneer isn't glued correctly, you see a little piece of wood near the bass port.

Besides that they sound good, I already played 2 songs so I need to give it some time haha.

I've got them toe'd in a little, not sure if it's to much they got about 2 - 2.5 meters in between 'em.

    Would this be enough?

I'd try them there and also if possible (gear and wiring permitted) right inside the bedroom area at the corner.  In other words forward from where they are.

Okay thanks! Do I need to toe these in? The Tannoy's don't really seem to care what I do with them haha. The triangle point with the D300 as they stand now, is about 3 meters away from my listening position and it doesn't seem to matter at all.

They're rear ported so you don't want to get too close to the wall.  Do you have a drawing of the rooms layout?

Both sides, the one at my bed and behind the speakers will start sloping at about 85-95cm. My Tannoy D300s like to be in corners, the RF7s wouldn't like this?

Repeat this process and you will be happy.  There is no need to burn them in.  The suspension will loosen up with normal use.

Okay thanks! Can I crank them up a little when I first get them, will probably be getting them tomorrow!! Can't wait!

  11. I've never heard the Heresey's, I think the reason that Klipsch still makes them is because they still sell which I find to be an excellent reason to still produce them, if people like the sound why not? I've heard a lot of Vega's, and the only thing they can do is handle a lot of power and have a lot of impact.

Even in the good old Vega days when they had the VS series Vega never could hit quite low. Even the 1215 which is considered the second best they ever made, only went down to 30 hertz and this was at a +/- 6dB, that particular model had a 12" in the front, and a 15" down firing woofer mounted at the bottom.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new speakers.  I'd leave the crossovers alone and just enjoy your new gear.  If there's something that doesn't sound right, others will chime in with suggestions about placement, room treatments etc.

Okay, yeah what is the best placement? Near a wall? I have the second floor which has sloping sides behind the speakers (well, the part where the speakers will be placed) and behind my bed. Can't turn it around, Don't think I'd really win anything then...

When I was given a pair of old KG 5.2s that had never been used, I broke them in by playing video games and music with my sub off and bass tone control all the way up. Sounded a bit whumpy, but it did accelerate the process. In my experience (my only other pair that was bought new was my old Synergy F-20s) Klipsch speakers sound pretty rough before break-in so be sure to be patient!

How long would this break in take? 100 hours?

Edit: At what volume should I break them in if I'm not listening to them, normal listening levels or louder?

  14. 1 hour ago, CECAA850 said:

You can wire one out of phase while doing this to minimize noise as well.  Personally I'd just hook them up and listen to them.  They'll break in on their own.

I'll definitely be listening, but when not in the room I'll let them play. Is the out of phase part optional?

  15. Heya everyone!

I'm getting my RF7's at the end of may, and I just wanted to get some info on how to burn them in. I've had new speakers before but I haven't really paid attention to burning them in. I plan on letting them play as long as possible even when I'm not in the house. I know the debate about burning in speakers and I've never been able to test it out, so I'd like to do it just in case haha.

    Any tips?

    Cheers

Welcome.  I think the RF-7 II are great speakers, and an excellent value (particularly now that they're on sale).

    Have you read this thread?

Yeah I paid 1760 for them, in euro's that is. Normal price ranges from 1950-2500 euro's.

Edit: Yes I have read that topic, however my source is a Mac which has extremely low output..

  17. Heya everyone!

I'm new to the forum, and this is my first post, so I'll briefly introduce myself. I'm 23 years old and live in The Netherlands, I've been into audio for a good 3-4 years and already owned a bunch of speakers. I currently use a pair of Tannoy D300's, had a pair of Klipsch RF82 once and they rocked!

I still live at home and since getting a bigger room I've been looking into the RF7's again (I was checking them out but my room was way to small for those dual 10") and after seeing the new RF-7 mk3's I just knew I could get a good deal on the 'old' 7's. So I ordered a pair. I wanted Cherry really bad, but all the distributor had was black, and every other shop I checked only had black. Black isn't ugly but cherry just looks nicer (: .

I'm going to be driving them with my Yamaha DSP-A1, which is a flagship Yamaha amplifier. I am thinking about upgrading the amplifier, just getting monoblocks or something with more power.

I know for a fact the Yamaha can handle a ton, even the Tannoy Kingdom 12 was no problem a buddy of mine told me. The Klipsch come in end of may, as you can understand, I can hardly wait!

I have read that a ton of people upgrade the crossover, is this really necessary or is it just a good thing to do?

    Cheers!
