  1. thanks michael-= that clears it up for me.. so a regular speaker a/b switch will harm the amp? i wasn't aware of that- thanks! what if i only run one of the pairs of speakers at a time (off the a/b) is this still a problem? i've tried searchinng on the web for the paradigm selector with no luck. any idea where i could find it? thanks again!
  2. i'm a little confused as to what michaelstano is referring to - can you elaborate?
  3. i have a denon 2802 with a klipsch line for surround sound. we're putting on a new addition with a deck and i want to run speaker wires out to the new addition AND to the deck, with outdoor speakers. i know my denon has an A/B switch, but is there a way to have 3 temination points? ie my current theatre, my addition, and my deck?

    wiring?

i'm putting in a new 4 season porch-- and wish to run speaker wires out there during construction. i'm not sure if i want regular floor speakers, which i can then maneuver to provide sound to the outside or smaller cube-type speakers (less intrusive). my thought (as bad as it is) is perhaps with the small cubes, when i want sound outside i can open all the windows and crank it up. so basically what i want is versatile (sound in and outside) and non-intrusive we haven't started building yet, so i want to have it all decided before the porch is finished- any recommendations, including wall plates, wiring, etc would be great!! thanks!
  5. does anyone use a personal video recorder with their home theatre set up? if so, which one? what do you like/ dislike about it?? thanks!
  6. anyone use one of these with their home theatre? i'm looking at the RCA UltimateTV DSS Satellite Receiver, model DWD490RE it got optical out for dolby (both live and for recorded shows) i now have replaytv with my home theatre, but replay doesn't have optical out- so i'm thinking of upgrading and getting this combo sat receiver/ ultimate tv unit. any comments, recommendations?
  7. quote: Tommy the Rock Opera by the who is this on DVD? it's one of my favorite albums- plus quadrophenia -- do you know if this is available in this format, too?

  9. i just bought the SPL at radio shack-- cat 33-2050 and it's on sale for 29.99 (reg 39.99). i'm not sure if they run the same ads nationwide, but i thought i'd let you all know! now i have to figure out how to use it! any tips??
  10. ahhh.. the clue was in the title === DIGITAL inputs! i thought i was just telling the receiver all the equipment that was attached! thanks guys! as always i get a lot of help around here- and as you can see i need it!
  11. i did just receive a call from Klipsch and i asked them that.. the guys said to use a Y adaptor from my single output on the receiver to the two inputs on the sub- that should solve the auto problem- i'm picking one up today-i'll let you know if it works.
  12. i have a question re this receiver and was hoping to find someone here with the same receiver... i've checked the denon site, but no luck! under Digital in Assignments, when i try to properly assign a device (CD, VCR, etc) it does not keep the entry. for example, if i do CD- COAXIAL and then go on to VCR - COAXIAL the CD entry flips back to OFF. i've even tried to do one entry at a time, than back out and start all over, but it doesn't work. any ideas?? thanks!
  13. I just got the SF2, SS1, SC1 and KSW 10-- what's the recommended setup for all those controls on the back! also, i have a denon 2802 and my crossover choices are 80, 100, 120. i'm trying to grasp this= does this mean that any frequency below the one i choose (eg 80, 100, 120) will be sent to the sub? is it better to choose the highest - 120? finally, the auto switch on the back- it didn't switch on the sub as i thought it should- is this reliable?
  14. thanks- i'll take a look!
  15. i just (finally) got my set up- denon 2802, SF2, SS1, SC 1, and KSW10. but i need a primer on dolby, 5.1, surround, dts etc.. what's the differences? also, if a movie is listed as DOLBY, does that mean it's surround or 5.1?? what about regualar HBO movies, without the dolby symbol? do these sound different than the ones that state dolby? any/all help would be greatly appreciated!!
  16. my SF 2's are against one wall (rectangle shaped room) with the left one towards the side wall (about a foot off). i wanted to put the KSW along the same side wall about 7 feet or so out from where the left SF2 will be positioned- would this be a problem? in other words the sub would be somewhat between the Left sf2 and the listening position. thanks!
  17. is there such a thing as a breaking in period with new speakers? i just got some sf2's, ss1, sc 1 and ksw10 and was wondering if it's ok to crank 'em right from the start. thanks!
  18. i just purchased the ss1, but part of a package (great price for my setup)-- at www.acousticsounddesign.com also www.superaudiovideo.com had it for 299, but i'm not sure of shipping. and www.earthstations.com had it for 299, shipping included - BUT another guy here said he called earth stations and they're not shipping outside of california anymore??!!! so you may still have the best price! wiring?

per the boards advice i went to radio shack and home depot- unfortunately RS was not much help, so i turn to my brethren here. i'll have runs of about 25 - 30 feet for my rear surrounds-- can i use 16 gauge (from Home Depot). they had two kinds, one was 'digital' and was $25 for 50'. the regular one was $13 for 100'. which do you recommend? also, the guy at RS said i couldn't use coax for the sub- but i know it's been recommended here. can you guys lay out exactly what i'll need to do this? name/type of cable, connectors, etc.. thanks again!

  25. hey guys -- thanks so much for the info. a few follow-ups... regarding the banana plugs, is it just for aesthics, or does it help? i checked the specs on the receiver and all it states is Binding Post Speaker Terminals. will the plugs work here? the speakers do take them. regarding the sub - can't use the 12 gauge for this?? - so, i do need a special cable-- did i mentioned it's a powered sub- or are they all powered????! the way my room is i need to drop the cable down into the finished basement, (but the ceiling is sheet rock= so i'm limited where i come back up) so anyway, i need to have come up in the opposite corner and then run it around the room perimeter behind the couch- thus about 45' in length. i don't have a dvd- tho probably will get one down the road. thanks again- i really appreciate all the help! ed
