As a sidenote, easily the very best La Scala's I own are LSI splits, with the top hat raised up off the bass bin approximately 18 inches.
Hi Jim. Could you show us a picture of these raised splits?

Sprogk I'm not connected to my PC at this time. The capability is there with my turntable and my Cambridge CXN. I get the radio from my CXN and use it as my preamp. It has one dac per channel and digital going through it is rich and warm compared to other dacs that I've heard. If you could manage to listen to Cambridge options for your dac I'd think they should be considered. If you're going ss that is.
I'll b sure to check out Cambridge CXN. Thanks

Sprogk Those Belles are looking good! The wood grain seems to have been parched, you've got that under control.
Don't have folded horn speakers, you know those were my shot at it that you have now! Lps, internet radio, cds, and my cassettes (until they fall apart, one by one).
Those cabinets... they are works of art, like some automobiles are, not much regular furniture is.
Ok so internet radio you have a DAC and connect a laptop via USB? What's the best wireless options for streaming Tidal for example? My amplifier ordered does not come with a built in DAC.

Has anyone tried Velodyne Optimum 10" with Klipsch heritage?

I guess for amps look for the ones no one is selling. Old HK SS from the 70s. Creek which no one talks about.
I never found a Luxman but would be sweet on hearing one. No on sells the old Conrad Johnson tube integrated. I do not put it in my profile but I will never sell my H H Scott 208 power amp.
What you must do is not frustrate yourself with jittery digital.
Belle's hate MP3 files. Good luck.
Rick
I might pick up a Luxman and see how that sounds.
So most of you guys listen to vinyl or CD's? What other sources?

So I oiled the Belle's today. Watco really brought the veneer to life..(1ste picture shows top oiled/bottom not)

Thanks for that info...I didn't know you can get blend fill pencils.

Ahh I see. Then I'm in luck because I haven't heard the Cornwall...straight to Belle's. [emoji846]
Thanks for clearing that up guys.

Horn loaded mains need horn loaded subwoofers, its never going to sound right without it. Don't waste your money on anything else unless you just like to waste it.
I understand. Please explain why so many want the Cornwall low end then? That's not folded horn woofer design...
Note: I am new to heritage speakers with folded woofer designs.....this is an honest question.

I can understand that would be a great project. I sometimes look for upgrade projects because it's enjoyable & keep us busy....but wanted to mention that I read that Klipsch is bringing out a heritage subwoofer. Any know more about this? That'll solve the "lower end bass required " problem.

Call the Klipsch parts people! I believe they were $12 a badge? These are the only badges that they sell now called the Jubilee Badge.
Thanks!

PS - Welcome to the forum.
Thank you. Lots of information here.

I guess it's possible. former owner thought they where around 1980's... -
The M typically means 1974.
Wow could it really be that early?

Love my Belle's! My first pair had the dreaded AB x over which wasn't worth updating. Had an extra AA that I put new caps in and it sounded great. I agree that is the only thing you NEED to do at this point. If you choose to upgrade at a later date, you will be able to tell if it was worth it. It is a fun process, sit back and enjoy the music.
Looks good. Care to comment on your caps used?

That is a very early set of AA's. What year are the Belle's early 70's? The S/N should be stamped on the back edge if the labels are not present.
Interesting fact: labels are 100% in tact and match the stamped serial number. Called Klipsch and they couldn't tell me when they were manufactured ....who can help me with figuring out what year they were manufactured?
Type: BK-WO. (Belle Klipsch - ?? ??) can anyone clarify?
Serial are OM610 & OM611

The Luxman I had (a combo preamp and amp on the same chassis, i.e., an integrated amp, the Luxman L580) sounded smooth and "tube like," and was probably the best sounding solid state amp I ever had. It lasted for 24 years, then self destructed, cause unknown. A repair shop declared it to far gone to repair.. I'd be inclined to risk it with a Luxman, though. What happened to mine was probably a fluke. It sure sounded good with my Klipschorns.
How big a room do you have? How loudly do you like to play music? Klipsch once put out a sheet on power in watts v.s. dB at normal listening distance (rather than at 1 M, where nobody listens). Interpolating, I find that a single Belle will put out about 112 dB at about 30 watts in a 3,000 cu. ft. room, R=200, with some room left over for instantaneous peaks (Dope from Hope Vol 16, No. 1, January 1977)
My preference would be for a 100 watt amp, but it that's probably overkill.
In about 1975, a Klipsch dealer told me that PWK "toned down" the Belle a bit. That would be about 4 years after it was first marketed. I don't know if that was done through a crossover change, or something else. Later yet, they changed the crossovers to 450 Hz between woofer and mid, and changed the mid to tweeter to 4,500 Hz. That was done with a crossover change.
Glad to hear some positive feedback about Luxman. Loudness..its depends. If I'm alone it'll be loud. If I have company it will be at a level where one can still have a conversation.
The luxman 590 ax mkii is actually rated 30W pure class A. From 30-90Wpch it class AB. I think it'll do just fine
