Craig, I found that I can use a dental pick on some tube sockets. Craig not knowing much about the electronics of tube amps I only clean and tighten the tube sockets after the amp has been off and unpluged for a good week. I heard that the capacitors can hold a charge for a good while and figured that letting the amp set for a few days at least is a good idea is this so or am I being way over cautious?

Wow Joe nice work on those set of speakers. Cute kid also. Hats off to you on a very nice project.

It would make a great speaker for a veneering candidate. If a guy could land that other vertical cornwall on ebay they would have one rare set of cornwalls. Also a single vertical cornwall might make a heck of a center channel.
Why did klipsch make a vertical cornwall, what was the purpose and advantage of mounting the horn vertical like that?

I am looking for a set of heresys for a veneering project, does anybody have a set for sale? I been practicing veneering a set of homade speakers for a friend of mine and think I am ready to do a set of heresys. This veneering is something I always wanted to try so does anyone out there have a set of heresys that are in need of a facelift? Thanks All.

I would just see if he would sell the 299a and for how much. The 310c mono tuner isnt worth much maybe 75 bucks in my opinion. If you can land the scott 299a for $275 to $325 that wouldnt be to bad of a deal if its in good cosmetic shape, you might as well figure on getting it rebuilt anyway, a stock 299a untouched unit is over 45 years old and to be reliable and safe needs to be rebuilt.

What works for me to tell if a tweeter is working or not is this, play some music at normal listining levelels and place your hand over the tweeter put your ear about 6 inches or a foot away directly in front of the tweeter and rapidly flip your hand up you should hear the tweeter working . Keep closing your hand over the tweeter and raising it, you should hear a night and day difference, this always works for me.

arfz28:Somthing must be wrong with your HK-430, mine is very quite and sounds wonderfull on my 84 k-horns. I have a scott 299b restored by Craig and it has plenty of power for my k-horns and sounds very nice.
Alan,
Just curious, which one sounds better to you and why?
BTW colter, if you do decide to go with a Scott amp, don't worry if it doesn't have a case with it. arfz28 builds some killer custom hardwood covers for the Scotts.
Piranha, both amps sound very good, the hk-430 seems to have a better bottom end a tad tighter bass, its truly a litttle bass monster, but the scott really shines in the midrange and upper end. If I had too get rid of one it would be the hk-430 the scott aint going anyware.

Yep, if I said it once on this forum I have said it dozens of times. Putting pipe insulation on your k-horns and properly sealing them to the walls is the best 4 dollar tweek you can make on your k-horns.

Ya the dude never answerd any of the several emails I sent him, I told him I wanted too see the speakers and pick them up. I would stay clear of this deal.

I would like too build an entertainment stand in my basement for all my stereo equipment and a tv, problem is I have no idea on exacly what I want yet. With 3 vintage receivers, 2 tube amps, 2 cd players, 2 turntables, VCR, boys playstation and a 25 inch old tv that will get replaced with a bigger tv someday. I really cant figure out how big a tv I might buy down the road either, so in the meantime I just watch the old tv waiting for it too blow up and then when I get a new flat panel I guess I will start planning out a entertainment center that will fit the tv. I most likely will go with a 32 inch to no more than a 42 inch lcd tv. One thing I now for sure is that the tv will have too be all the way to one one side of the entertainment center the way my seating arangment is in the basement. I want too use my turntables so I was maybe going too put them on top of the entertainment center, but doing this leaves me with not a very tall entertainment center cutting down on the size and space for all of the equipment I have, might not work. Plan two would be to build the entertainment center almost all the way too the sealing giving me way more room. Another thing I just thought of what about a center channel if I ever want too go the hometheater route. I think I will just take the easy route and get a buch of milk crates and shelfing boards and be done with it, LOL.

I am perty sure I used 3/8 inch foam pipe insulation. Usually comes in a pack of 4 about 3 feet long each. Walmart has it or any hardware store. No glue is needed, just slide the foam pipeing on the edges of the tail pieces and you are done, it was the cheepest tweek I made too my k-horns cost me 3 or 4 bucks.

Still no reply from the seller, I am wondering if it might be a scam. Look at his picture real close he got it off of ebay, it is of a pair of klipsch heresys that are bringing over 500 bucks, item number 280087452533. He wont answer my email as I tell him I want too see them and pick them up. I wonder if someone else would ask him if he would ship them and take paypal you might get a quick email reply from him. Dont know if it is a scam or not but starting too feel that way.

I Sent another email still no reply as of yet.

Well I am finished with a veneering job on a set of homade speakers for a friend of mine. The veneer is sapele and is stained in minwax natural stain and then 4 coats of hand sanded minwax semi-gloss polurathane has been added for the top coat.I learned quite a few things about veneering and these practice speakers turned out perty nice for a beginer, I just hope they hold up. I will see if I can get a few pictures of them posted, up next will be a set of heresys in the future.
