oooh, decorators. first ones I ever heard were like that but unfinished fir. Sound just the same as the most expensive Rosewood models. WAF low though.

I think it's not so much that they're more sensitive but they can hear well above 20K. Not many speakers in the Klipsch line (and none in the Heritage line) can produce any noticable energy up there.

Maybe he's using the Chrome browser. The Klipsch forum doesn't like a W3 standards-compliant browser at all. I don't even get the text formatting buttons across the top when using Chrome. No matter what I put in it appears as one long paragraph like this.

did you use a gold leaf pen on those? That was I did with the 100 or so I did, but never really did like the finish. Did you find something better?

The paint on the back can vary with the finish, at least in earlier models. Later might be all flat black. My '60 Mahogany have a very dark brown paint on the back.

the OP mentioned KDFR, that's Klipschorn, Decorator, Fir. The pics are not of Decorator models at all. Those are the regular B style, hardwood with the collar between top and bottom. I'd be figuring where the discrepancy is. Were those pics posted by the guy who owns the ones you're looking to buy?

BTW, this particular Scott 222-C was one of the nicest sounding amps I've ever heard. It still had all the original Telefunken tubes in it and just just kicked butt all over the place hooked up to LaScalas or Khorns. I'm still sorry I ever sold it but money was tight and I had way too many amps.

notice in this pic the RED wire coming off the NEGATIVE side of the silicon rectifier going to the little terminal strip and thence to the pair of resistors and on to the 4 caps and resistors. This is because the 4 section can cap was bad, couldn't get rid of the hum. I didn't know how to fix it so I sent it to a well-known Scott genius on this board who fixed it for me. I believe he used that pair of resistors to adjust the the negative 55V to the pre-amp tubes.

here's a couple pics that may help. Notice the silicon rectifier is mounted right on top of the old selenium. Notice also there are no wires connected to the old selenium rectifier. it's just sitting there.

I have a couple Telefunken ECF82, I bought these from Brent Jesse (IIRC) as NOS. I haven't used them
I need a couple comparable quality 7247s. Not really even trade type thing but WTH.

If you're handy at all somebody here posted complete plans and drawings for the parts to convert a C to a B type. If you're interested and unable to find them with a search I probably have them somewhere.

I notice the plans on paper are SpeakerLab, are these still thought to be good? Or has maybe something better become available since them?

Are you the guy who converted Khorn plans to use 3/4" plywood instead of the 1/2" Klipsch used?
I'm back to thinking about building a set and selling my '60s. What concerns me is the pieces that have both beveled edges and are tapered lengthwise.
I think you sent me, many years ago, a CD of plans and dimensions of building Khorns. Maybe I should dig it out.

Don't forget to use up a can of contact cleaner spraying directly into all the pots while rotating them back and forth.

Don't screw around with those woofers, order a new pair from Bob Crites soonest. If the wallet can take the hit also order his basic A crossovers. You can refurb yours at your leisure. Meanwhile you'll be up and running and enjoying the music. These things have some of the nicest sound you can imagine and you don't need some mega-watt amp either.

friend of mine has heard my DIY LaScalas, Belle and the big DBB Cornscalas. He's bugging me to build him a guitar amp. I've got enough stuff to build a decent 6BQ5/7189 P-P amp and was thinking to use a Crites cast frame 15". It won't have any tone controls or other effects, he'll do all that with his pedals.
I was thinking to build a traditional open back box, direct radiator setup. Will the K-33 type driver go high enough to do a guitar? Or do I need some other driver completely? I've heard that you can't use quality stereo components in a guitar amp but nobody sez why? I mean, they'll play a guitar from a recording, right?
I need to go look up the range of the k-33 type woofer and see how that compares with an electric guitar.
Any bright ideas?
