  4. yeah i figured that the receiver/amp could have been the problem all along, i'm never gonna run another set of speakers off it, i could prolly get a few bucks of it. what would you recommend for a good 5.1 channel DD/DTS receiver thats not to pricey, but has at least 100 watts per channel or know of a high quality stereo amp, i would like one with a volume knob, but i don't need all the inputs for dvd, tv, cd, and am/fm
  5. hmmm i just turned to channel 812 on the satellite dish, thats the dance/techno music channel i'm listen to some techno on thoes quintets with the two blow tweeters, you know it has a unique sound, i can still hear pretty full depth in the sound the woofer in the speaker goes upto 16000hz, and the sound is really clean, i know its missing alot of clarty since all the highes are missing but i could live with this for a little while i guess.
  6. oh yeah by the way i forgot to mention i listen to alot of punk through thoes speakers that might be the reason why the tweeter blew in the first place. punk is very tweeter demanding. does anyone here have the Klipsch RB-5 II bookshelf speakers i'm looking into getting thoes as well as a new amp (link to amp below) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=5779034&St=2188&St2=-80352985&St3=-38414089&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=15998&DID=7 This message has been edited by insomniac on 04-23-2002 at 10:45 PM
  7. i say F*** it! i just loaded up NCH Swift Sound, sound generator, and set it to 18000hz sine wave, turned the volume up to about the 10:00 position i hear high pitch sine wave then pop, that does it now i have no working tweeters, oh well i'll think about buying a bigger bookshelf style speaker next time, there is something with me and thoes little speakers that i like, i think its just the fact that they look cool, thats pretty much it.
  8. that cliping thing makes me think if my receiver is the problem, i have blown other tweeters with it, by the way when i blew that one tweeter the amp was probley only pushing 50-60% of its full power it can output 100 watts per channel rms so i was doing around 50-60 watts strange that they would blow at that power, that makes me wonder why they did, i have noticed that the amps output can be alittle harsh in the highs sometimes overpowering to the hearing, its a Optimus STAV-3770 Audio/Video Receiver with dolby prologic, (its really a Pioneer receiver with the Optimus name) 100 watts x 2 in stereo mode (which only use for thoes klipsch quintets) and 100 watts x 2 front, 100 watts center, 50 watts x 2 rear in surround mode (i use when watching movies on other speakers ) i have thought about the receiver being a problem before when i blew a set of speakers a while ago and i brought them back to the store i got them from and the guy working there said that the amp might have cliped. i might buy new speakers all together, i'm not really happy with the performance of the quintets anyways, sound quality is the worst i've heard from a set klipsch speaker, a lot of port noise, woofer overheats fast and you can smell it, i think that might be bad. so any suggestions, This message has been edited by insomniac on 04-23-2002 at 06:00 PM
  9. please excuse my language but i must holy F***ing **** i just got an email back from klipsch service regarding my blown tweeter in one of my quintet satellites, i can not beleive this crap You will need part number 129067. Those are $60.00 each $60 bucks, its a god damn tweeter for crying out loud, i can get a pair of 1" titanium infinity car audio tweeters, for almost the same price, and do you wanna know how much i paid for thoes two quintet speakers i use as computer speakers, $110 bucks U.S, one replacement tweeter alone is more money then the intire speaker, THANKS ALOT KLIPSCH you have screwed me over. maybe you should take off the 100 watt RMS / 200 watt max rating on thoes speakers because they sure as hell can't handle that. 10. i had the same problem with a set of speakers, what i did was get a power cleaner, it takes the power from the wall and cleans it from voltage spikes and hiss in the lines, if you have the extra money get a rack mount style one, but monster cable makes a pretty good power strip version not as good though
  11. mpetrich yes they do if you pull back on the rubber boot thats around the stand you will see a nut, get the right size wrench and give her a few turns, the hole is about a 1/4" to 3/8", oh yeah by the way you will need to unscrew the front of the speaker (its just 4 screws and the whole front comes off) to get to the other nut so it doesn't just spin when you try to loosen it, you won't break anything. i really don't know why you'd want to remove thoes nice brackets they are some of the nicest, fully adjustable, metal speakers brackets i've seen that some that come pre-installed on the speaker anyways happy listening This message has been edited by insomniac on 04-21-2002 at 10:54 PM
  12. I just though I'd cruse around the Kipsch web site a bit and see whats on it so I glanced in the Listening Lounge area and clicked on the audiophiles speak section and I saw this . Bottoming At extreme volumes, when the voice coil smacks into the back of the pole plate it creates a very unpleasant sound similar to the sound of snow crunching under foot only much, much louder. It reminded me of the time I had a pair of Optimus speakers, thats the name radio shack puts on speakers they sell but they were really made by company in Germany. They had a 3"x3.5" mono pole tweeter and a 7" poly woofer, what great speakers they were, just one slight problem, it was just a little one, you couldn't really put more than 20 watts of power into them with out the woofer smacking the pole plate, and what a loud *** sound it was, I sware that the smacking noise had to be least 120db it was so damn loud, the only way I could listen to them was to turn the bass way down then they sounded like crap, I soon got rid of them when I cranked the volume knob all the way around, "POP" blew the voice coils out the front of the speakers through the tiny 1.5" diam foam dust cap. I still have the tweeters though, they are rated at 160watts RMS (240 max) 6 ohms responds from 3800-24000hz, and has a 98dB spl, and they look really really cool, they are 3.5" wide by 3" high with shiny riben in the middle that gives off the sound, pretty high tech stuff. I might build some speakers one day and put them in em. This message has been edited by insomniac on 04-21-2002 at 10:34 PM
  13. I think I might just wait a little while and buy the RB-5 II booksheft speakers, I can wait a while you can't here much difference in the sound considering that the 3.5" woofer in thoes speakers doesn't have a very good crossover cut off point, the cut off for the woofer is 17000hz and the tweeter is 3500hz (high pass). I ran a sine wave through them thats how I know. I kinda wanted to get the RB's to start with I use the quintets for my computer, I run them with a 100 watt stereo amplifer from pioneer. When I bought them I just got a pair for clear stereo, but I wish I got something with a little more than a speaker with a 3.5" woofer and a heck of alot of noticable port noise, also while playing an instrumental song by Inspection 12, at round 60 watts per channel RMS (100 watt RMS rated), I noticed that the woofer had almost no voice coil cooling and almost fryed, I saved them when i started to smell a burning type smell, like you get when you burn up one of thoes little r/c motors or something, I felt the dust cap it was pretty hot, although the speakers are very good high quality, very nice binding posts and the stands are great. but I guess the reason why the sold the quintets in a package with matching center, surround, and a ksw-10 or 12 sub is probley because they are really ment for watching movies and not playing music really loud.
