  1. gotta be quick, im in a hurry but please help me im in desperate need. my kg4s have a nominal impedence of 4ohms. does this mean that i have to run my mac poweramp on 4 as well, or can i go to 8? i tried the amp on 8 ohms and it sounded like God! but when i switch her to 4ohms the sound is murky and not nearly as punchy and crisp. the amp has been retubed and rebiases itself, so i know that isn't a problem, all i need to know is if it will hurt the voice coils, another part of the speaker or, god forbid, my poweramp. i know i can rewire the speakers to run at 8ohms, if necessary, but i don't know where to find the schematics for a fifteen year old pair of speakers. if i didn't love them so much, i wouldn't get so worked up, but i don't know how to handle this. please please please help me out. i would really appreciate an answer to the nominal impedence question, and if you know where i can get my hands on the schematics for these 1985 kg4 klipsch, i'll make a statuette of you for my garden. thanks a lot..shannon
  2. i have recently obtained a pair of 1985 klipsch kg-4 floorstanding speakers. we're running a mcintosh 110 preamp(and tuner) and the mac 240 poweramp. before we got the kg4's we had a pair of klipsch k2.3. the problem is that the k2.3 ran on 8 ohms, and the kg4's have a nominal ohmage of 4. now, the mac 240 can be switched from 16ohms down to 4 ohms, so we are able to accomidate for the speakers. however, the amp is having to work twice as hard as it has been, and she sounds kind of muddy and not nearly as punchy and crisp as before. for a few days we ran the amp on 8 ohms anyway, despite the fact that the speakers run at 4, and it sounded like the universal symphony with god singing solo and the holy ghost on drums. My questions are these: does a nominal impedence of 4 ohms mean that they can be run at no greater than 4 ohms (2 ohms, i mean), and can safely be run at 8ohms or 16ohms without harming the speakers (the voice coil mainly) or the poweramp, or is it required that i run the poweramp on 4 ohms only with these new speakers. research has led me to the conclusion that these speakers can only be run with a 4 ohm load, but im not entirely sure. could someone please help me out? i am in love with these old speakers, and will do whatever i have to to run them on at least 8ohms. if need be i will rewire the speakers to carry a nominal impedence of 8 (or maybe 16)ohms. i have a feeling the speakers are going to have to be altered for a less demanding load on the poweramp, keep in mind that this amp is at least 40 years old, and burn the paint off of my NAD 2200 poweramp. and with that 12inch passive radiator in the back the sound is unbelievable. if need be i can rewire the kg4's to run a nominal impedance of 8(or maybe 16)ohms, but i have no idea where to get the schematics for these old speakers. if anyone can answer my question about nominal impedence, or tell me how to find the schemes for my speakers please please please send them here or e-mail me. i appreciate your help in advance. sister but i have no idea where to find the schematics for this model. if anyone knows where i can find them, please let me know. please please please. later on--sister
