  1. This Friday, November 7th, marks a historical moment
for The Blue Shoe Project and American music history.

    Two of America's greatest
treasures, Blues legends and Grammy Award
winners Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, 95, and David "Honeyboy" Edwards,
    93
, will perform for over 4,000 students as part of The Blue Shoe Legends Program™ in Dallas,
Texas. This event will give students a rare opportunity to glimpse into the past
to experience when and how the Blues was born.

We have made a handful of tickets available to
our constituent base and wanted to make sure that you were first to
    know.

    They
will go quickly, so be sure to purchase now online!

  2. Dave, I have refrained from saying anything up to this point. But I have serious misgivings about recording an aquarium and calling it music. Put some fish in it and see if they form a choir! I suppose you will put your new recording up on some website and convince everyone that you recorded it with said fish tank...but I know better. I've seen the RV filled with equalizers, digital processors, and other said devices that you keep tarped in the alley. I bet you didn't tell the listening group about the cryogenically treated 1 gauge speaker cables you have driving the K-Horns while the Fraziers are driven by rusty coathangers and paper clips soldered together. I rest my case and fall upon the mercy of the court.

  3. I heard from Dave this morning. Water to the curb of his yard, but didn't enter house. Lost a piece of his yard's fence. Est. 3 weeks w/o electricity. He will empty fridge and freezer and head north to kin in Texarkana in the next day or so. But MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Model 11's are ok.

  4. I went to the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) this year and virtually everyone was showing new palm sized recorders with built in mikes. In addition to the H2, there is the H4 that is more flexible. Even Nagra has one now if I'm not mistaken. I have used them to do transcription recordings where you feed timecode to one channel and program audio to the other. Then email the file to a transcription service and before the producer gets home there is a file waiting for him/her to print out and use for editing. Radio reporters and audio bloggers are absolutely in love with them. The only problem is that the built-in mics record the handling noise from holding them. I have been studying them on and off but the marketplace is really getting crowded now with these. At NAB I suppose I saw at least 7 or 8 different brands and variations.

  5. Give it up Buckster....feel the force, let the force be with you....stop fighting it Luke...you know you miss vinyl...you know you miss vinyl....you are growing sleepy.....verrrry sleepy.....NOW BEAT THE CR#P OUTTA THAT CD Player!!!!!!! It had a laser you know and you were just protecting yourself...now.,,you are growing verrry sleeepy.....verrrryy sleeppy...verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  6. Get thee a can of DeOxit and spray all dbx buttons and switches and pots(inside & out) liberally while punching them repeatedly (hundreds of times) like a step child. Open unit to make sure there is nothing "fishy" going on that is a simple fix. Fix any simple fixes. DBX buttons are notorious for going south. Sometimes spraying them will bring them back. Sometimes you just waste a can of perfectly good DeOxit. Sometimes Jethro seems smarter than Granny....

  7. Dave, you don't have to complain about my road btch anymore. She was stolen, or possibly kidnapped from my truck while I was inside my local Frys Electronic super store. This was to shop for a refrigerator as mine has been suddenly posessed and cools only when it's not needed. And it was the day after you insulted her so thoughtlessly. Negative karma is a powerful thing! Just because she was untrue to your diabetic ramblings about ice cream...where's the ice cream...occifer, can you tell me where the ice cream store is..... she served me well. And she DID find you that great steak, didn't she? Though she may have strayed to a few crack houses on occasion, I can only think of her fondly splayed out on the back seat with a candle and a spoon dribbling something about Interstate 35 and Mexican food. And she was always generous with the crack! She was a good GPS and I will miss her. Though she has already been replaced by a slimmer and younger model, I can only be content that she does not require alimony and that no one has tried to ransom her back to me. My "NEW' road btch doesn't have an Aussie accent, but sounds more like a pist Sister Mary Margaret. I will be shopping for a new voice for her soon and if I find a good one, some new lingerie. I can only hope that the new btch finds me as much good vinyl as the old girl did. May she rest in peace after exploding and setting that little mother%$#&K$n thief's car on fire and then dripping flaming plastic onto his crotch.

I must say publicly that I feel like I have reached a milestone as the Goodwill that sucked all of Dave's pocket change away, did not even get a penny of my ill gotten capital. However, Doc's was a different story as I couldn't leave without a mint Stray Cats "Rant n' Rave" and NM Bella Fleck, "Crossing the Tracks". Doc's always gets some of my cash no matter how resolute I am when entering. He has a bunch of the Flying Fish Records catalog that will eventually be mine. I'm a sucker for Flying Fish. And a bunch of Folkways recordings as well as some kickin blues. When I found a very rare unpriced lp and asked his teenage son who runs the place how much it was, I watched in horror as he bounced a 40 year old Montgomery Wards stylus onto every track like a hockey puck and then pronounced that it was worth $10.....not any more it wasn't. Next time I will take my own magic marker...what a waste...

Dave, you did not mention the Rhapsodies in Blue sent to K....were they THAT bad?

  8. It's obvious I need a guide and babysitter at these events. Will anyone who saw me please report to me what I was doing and if I appeared to be having fun. If we can only figure out where I was it may be possible to figure out what I missed. Thank you for your cooperation.

  9. Part of how I make a living is recording audio for video. I started out using off the shelf cables but soon found my diy cables absolutely superior to what I could buy. For me, Canare or Mogami cable is the only way to go. Does it sound better than other cable? Don't know cause I don't hear cable. But it rejects spurious RF better than other cable without a doubt and it's much more flexible at low temperatures and THAT'S a big deal if you're coiling and uncoiling cables in driving rain with gloves on. My DIY interconnects for my home system consist of Canare Star Quad cable with Canare RCA plugs. You will not find better plugs than the $3.95 Canare gold plated RCA's but you can pay more. They are built like a tank and have a very high testosterone factor. They eat designer plugs for breakfast! The Star Quad cable is available in many many colors and I am a color code freak. Right channel is always red (Red for Right) and the left channel identify's the component. For example, left channel of my CD player is Violet, left channel of my turntable is Blue, Left channel of my preamp is Orange. For XLR plugs (ie. Canon) I use Neutrik because they can be disassembled by hand in the field to check for problems and they are very light and you can color code them via the strain reliefs. Markertek.com has had the best price on short lengths of Canare cable for a while and have the other parts as well. I use them and have been happy.

If you need more than 2 conductors, Canare makes a huge variety of cable with different conductor and shielding configurations. They also make "miniature" versions of a lot of their cabling for those tiny connectors. They are all over the web. Good luck!

  10. Ok, where were these? I obviously,

a: Went to a different show

b: Drank way too much beer way too early...Thanks Matt! ***This is the most probable answer.***

c: Only made it to about half the rooms, cause I don't remember the systems in these pictures...they may have shut their doors when they saw me coming (see b: above)

On the other hand I had a great time. Met Ron C again and PM for the first time (he made me drink beer too...ok, ale so it really doesn't count--right? Ale is one of the 3 major food groups according to Matt.)

Then, the rest of the group made me drink Gin and Tonics and eat Cajun food at Dodies. Got to meet the gamut of audiophiles from true geeks to true believers. Best of all, I got exposed to people who made me look more normal and THAT's important.

I had such a good time that now I'm thinking seriously about going to the Rocky Mountain Audio Insanity Fair in Denver in October.

  11. A Mother's Day Weekend Blues Bash will take place in Colleyville, Texas. Take your mother to the blues!!!

    GOT THE BLUES?

    Blue Shoe Project
Plans Free Blues Festival in Colleyville

    By Scott Price / Staff
    Writer - The Colleyville Courier

    Fresh
off its Grammy Award this year for producing the best traditional blues
    album
, Colleyville-based Blue Shoe Project is organizing a local blues
    festival.

    Blue
    Shoe Blues in the Village
will take place 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 10,
    in The Village at Colleyville.

Michael Dyson, who started The Blue Shoe
Project in 2004 with his father, Jeff, said this family-friendly blues festival
is the first free event they have produced. He added that the event will include
sale of food and drinks, but at "reasonable prices." Blue Shoe is a non-profit
organization that seeks to educate people, especially students, about blues and
    the legacy of American music.

    Although the
headliner is Elvis T. Busboy, another top performer at the festival will be
    17-year-old bluesman Marquise
    Knox
    .

The event will include 17-year-old blues prodigy Marquise
    "Big Daddy" Knox
who will lead a blues workshop for children and their
families at 3 p.m. during the festival. Dyson said the kids love it when Knox
goes into the audience and allows them to play his guitar.

    "He’s a
totally reincarnated bluesman," Dyson said. "I don’t know where he gets
    it."

Also playing at the festival will be recording artists Elvis T.
Busboy and The Blues Butchers, featuring five-time Grammy
Award winner Tim Alexander of the iconic country band Asleep at the
    Wheel
    . Blues artist Tutu
    Jones
and slide guitar master Gerry Moss, of the legendary Lloyd Price Band,
    will also perform.

    A
special VIP package is being offered for $100 per person,
    which allows
personal access to each of the performers and access to a hospitality area with
    food and drinks.

The festival, though it has taken a number of weeks to
organize, will be a post-Grammy Awards celebration of sorts, Dyson
    said.

The Blue Shoe Project won the Grammy Award in February for best
    traditional blues album for Last
of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen – Live in Dallas
    . The album
features David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, the late Henry
James Townsend and the late Robert Lockwood Jr.

    Dyson said The Blue Shoe
Project was approached by businesses in The
    Village at Colleyville
with the idea of having a blues festival, and he said
    they liked the idea.

    Now Realty
    Capital Partners
    , Tivoli
    Wines
, the Colleyville law firm Denton,
    Smith and Cunningham, L.P
    ., and Clifton
    Capital Partners
    are all sponsoring the festival.

    Feedstore
    BBQ, based in Southlake
, will be selling food at the festival.

    "This
is the first time we have had a free event," Dyson said, "and there is already a
    buzz around town for this.

"If everybody shows up and there is some great
music, then maybe we will do it again in the fall."

    Janet Denton, of Denton,
    Smith and Cunningham
, one of the event sponsors, said she has seen Marquise
Knox perform. "When he gets on stage, he becomes ageless,
    like Honeyboy
    ," she said.

Denton said she feels this festival is
coming along at the right time when The
    Village at Colleyville
is about to blossom. She said it is becoming that
    old-fashioned walking neighborhood.

Denton said she is hopeful that the
    festival can grow.

"I think this is the springboard for something big,"
    she said.

"It’s going to be like something they’ve never seen before
    [locally]," Dyson said.

People are allowed to bring lawn chairs, coolers
and have open beer and wine containers at the festival.

  12. Just as an aside, for those who love good Mexican food and are attending. At the corner of Inwood and I-35 (just around the corner) there is a Texaco Station on the Northwest corner. Inside that Texaco Station Store is a Subway(boring) and a window where you can order some of the best Tacos in the state. But only if you like carmelized onions, grilled jalapeno's and really flavorful and hot reg and green sauces. There is a window on the outside of the building as well. Best of all, it's cheap. I tried TACO TACO in San Antonio (reported by a major gourmet food magazine to have the best Taco's in the U.S.) and these will put those to shame. More flavor, less hype...kind of like Frazier Tacos.
