  1. I have got the following components:

    Yamaha RX-V385 AV receiver (https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V385-5-1-Channel-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B07BNXXJKB)

    Klipsch R-120SW subwoofer (https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-120SW-Subwoofer/dp/B07FK2WNW4)

    Klipsch RP-600M speakers (https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Reference-Premiere-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B07G3D2C8S)

Could someone tell me what kind of wires I need to order please? From reading online, it looks like I need speaker wire like this one https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-16-Gauge-Speaker-Wire-4-Pack/dp/B07FYVXXBN  to connect speakers to AV. Can I use the same wire to connect AV to sub? Do I need some adapters, banana plugs, RCA or whatever else?

Your Right, The R-620 is Bigger. If Floor Standing Speakers are

what you're wanting the the R-620 should be Your Choice.

    They Will have more Bass.

Double check the Tweeters, They are Different.

I bought a R-120SW for the bass, so that is not my main concern. So you would go with RP-600M for overall sound quality?

The RP uses Different Bass Drivers, different Crossovers, Different Tweeters

Better Cabinets. All Around a Better Speaker.

Are you sure about the tweeters? Both specs mention 1” Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter with Hybrid Cross-Section Tractrix® Horn.

Regarding the bass driver: is cerametallic cone woofer better than spun-copper IMG woofer?

I was thinking R-620F is better due to bigger cabinet and double bass woofer.

70 watts per channel is not a lot of power in 2 channel driven  Stereo -------------100 watts and higher would have been ideal

There is not much different between 70 and 100 Watt. It won't even give you a 3dB increase. Plus knowing how Klipsch speaker are efficient, I don't have any concern there.

I did consider 485 model, but it is back-ordered and will ship mid August, which is a bit too far.

I will be using R-51M speakers and R-120SW sub. I considered buying RP-600M ($629) at first, they are amazing from what I've heard. When Klipsch announced sale on R-51M for ~150$ I decided to buy them instead.

  5. I decided to go for Yamaha RX-V385 + google chromecast to add wireless streaming. I understand that it is an entry model and far from ideal.

    My reasoning is that

    - even this entry level receiver will be better than my current built-in TV speakers

    - this will give me time to understand what high-end features I really need (if any) and later upgrade based on that.

Too often people buy things with a lot bells and whistles and rarely use half of them.

    Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I know you don’t need an AVR. But if I was in your position, with your budget, this is what I would buy. It can be run in 2 channel only, no problem. It has the sub out you need and YPAO room correction software, which could/should be a benefit.

Somehow I have this preconceived idea that AV receiver will deliver inferior sound quality, because they have more components cramped inside for almost the same price as stereo receiver.

You are correct, my bad sorry. Yes this is just not going to work. Unless you are willing to deal with 2 volume controls and the one on the sub is not remote controlled.

What do you think of CECAA850's suggestion to use https://www.amazon.com/Kicker-KISLOC-2-Channel-Speaker-Converter/dp/B00I4EF1BC

Or do you think I should return the receiver (still within return window) and save the trouble?

  8. I bought Yamaha R-S202 because it was recommended as a good choice for Klipsch speakers. Unfortunately I am having trouble connecting subwoofer to it, so I am thinking to return it and buy something else. What receiver would you recommend instead? I don't want to spend tons of money, so my budged is ~$300. Also I don't need an AV receiver, since I don't plan on using 5.1

Use LINE 3 OUT jacks (RCA) to go into the LINE INPUT JACKS on the Sub. The Lowpass control on the sub will be your only crossover control of the lows sent to the sub. Your main speakers will be full range. Maybe not ideal but you should be able to get it working. There is a line in the Yamaha manual that says the LINE OUT will be whatever is selected except IN3 but then does not elaborate.

I think I read somewhere that line 3 doesn't respect volume knob. So I would have to use both volume controls on receiver and sub. Do you know anything about it?

The easiest thing to do would be one of two things:

Get a different sub that has speaker-level inputs.

    Get a different receiver.

Are you sure R-120SW doesn´t have speaker level inputs? The user manual provided by Klipsch says that you can connect this sub to a receiver without sub output:

I am just not sure how.

The only way to connect a subwoofer to your 202 is through it's speaker terminals providing that the subwoofer also has speaker terminals.  Otherwise you will need to swap out either the receiver or the subwoofer.

Could you explain what you mean please? I am new to the whole topic. The subwoofer in question is R-120SW.

  12. I just bought R-120SW subwoofer and I can´t figure out how to connect it to my Yamaha  R-S202BL receiver that has no dedicated sub output. My understanding is that I have to use speaker wire to connect the sub to the receiver just as I connect my speakers. If my understanding is correct, then I have no idea

    1) how to connect speaker wire coming out of receiver to RCA plug of subwoofer, what adapter do I need?

    2) will the volume controller on receiver also control volume on the subwoofer? Or will I have to adjust both sub and receiver volume separately each time?
