  1. After carefully listening for 2 days, I can now hear differences between the old ProMedias and the GMX. The mid-range, epscially the vocals on the GMX are slightly laid back and there is an emphasis on the higher frequencies which makes it sound very sharp. The subwoofer also goes higher than the older ProMedias, making it ideally suitable for Games and Movies. However, it sounds fine for occasional music listening. For people comparing the GMX to Logitech Z-2300, the GMX has better satellites and the subwoofer is more musical. However, the logitech sub can go louder ( while not being so musical ). Enjoy! PS: High Volume testing still not performed so far :-)
  2. Hi, OK, so i blew my 4.1s last week. Got the Ultra 2.0 but returned it to get this system. Having owned 2.1s, 4.1s and 5.1s I wasnt expecting too much from the GMX series but I am simply amazed at how good it sounds. Its certainly no less musical than any previous ProMedia system that i've owned. To me the system sounds just perfect and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a 2.1 setup. I do have one gripe though, the hiss from the satellites is a tad bit louder than i'd expected. The satellites have to be placed atleast 4 feet away inorder to subdue the hiss, but once setup appropriately, it is pure audio bliss. And now my question, could the hiss be reduced by connecting the system to a soundcard that offers line-out rather than headphone-out ? Whats the technical difference between the two ? I am asking this because it says this system is designed to be connected to line-out rather than headphone-out in the manual. I suppose there is a technical difference between the two which might have caused the hiss. Enjoy! PS: High Volume testing not performed so far.

  4. Hi, I damaged my 4.1s yesterday by playing really loud... though only for 1 min. Anyways, the damage is done and here are the symptoms; The sound is perfectly okay at normal listening levels but the amp clips if i turn it up loud or if a heavy bass note plays at normal listening levels. I am guessing that the power supply has weakened. Since the set is out of warranty, i opened it up and noticed nothing unusual except for the R25 resistor which looks almost fried. I have attached a picture of the resistor which I coincidentaly took two days before I ran into problems. The lines on the resistor are burnt beyond recognition, any help will be appreciated. /Emaad Rafi
  5. looks like you blew both the subs somehow. are you sure you are not pushing the system too far ? if you want more bass, add another sub to the system. make sure the vacinity of the sub is properly ventilated, also make sure the power strip has enough power to power up your system. possibly use a power regulator with your system. klipsch didnt do anything wrong with the voltage. they manufacture 230V version to sell outside of the US and 120V version to sell within US. for now, see what the dealer has to say... best of luck
  6. wow, yours is probably the oldest system here. One question for 4.1 owners, where do you normally keep the surround sound level on the control pod? I am used to keeping it at 12 o clock but recently i tried lowering it to zero and found the sound to be much more musical as far as listening to mp3s goes.
  7. i am not too sure how much this might help you but here is a link. http://www.microncanada.ca/gpage1.html hope this solves the problem (if the shipping cost is reasonable).
  8. unfortunately, the only way to get to know the specs is to ask someone who has a working 120v set.
  9. looks pretty bad... but no harm in trying to fix it... do you have a 120V version ? perhaps i can help you with the component specs incase you have the 230V version. best of luck!
  10. I know it doesnt make much of a difference as its 7yrs in both cases but is it 7th December 99 or 12th July 99 ?
  11. Hi there, I just posted a message where i asked if anybody had tried the echo indigo laptop soundcard. I tried the iPod with my 4.1s and there was definately improvement throughout the audible spectrum. I was wondering if anybody has ever compared the iPod with other more expensive soundcards including the new X-Fi and whether there is a huge difference in their music listening experience. PS: now i dont feel like listening to music on my laptop, somebody please enlighten me with a sound advice :-)
  12. Hello, Currently I am running my 4.1s off my laptop's built-in soundcard, though it sounds okay, but it could certainly be improved. I mainly listen to music. I was considering Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA soundcard but then I heard good things about the Echo Indigo on the internet. Has anybody tried this soundcard ? If so, what are your thoughts on it. Thanks /Emaad Rafi
  13. have you tried to get it serviced from a local electronics store ? perhaps it would be a fix till you get a new one.
  14. very impressive indeed mbeach, i wish i knew electronics stuff better, i would've done quite a lot of experiments like yours... enjoy Klipsch
  15. being my 5th klipsch promedia purchase, being a 2nd hand item and being the cheapest klipsch purchase so far. this thing is simply amazing! all praises here :-)
  16. did you get them repaired ? what problem did they have ?
  17. you can use the 4.1s with 2 satellites but you wont be able to connect the 2.1 control pod as it doesnt fit into the 4.1 sub. enjoy the rest
  18. incase you cant find the woofer separately, try this; http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-Speaker-system-Sub_W0QQitemZ120012544504QQihZ002QQcategoryZ3702QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. Hello Everybody, Although its sad to know that Klipsch no longer fixes the problems on the 4.1s. However, I have also noticed that people have been able to fix broken systems either on their own or got them repaired through a local electronic store. I was wondering, wouldnt it be great to have a place where one could find all the repair info and FAQ ( problems like the R12, R26 and Z1 diode failyre etc ) that one needs incase anyone of us or some fellow klipsch fan has some trouble. I know that this information is present within old threads. I would try to find it and try to make a helpful document. I would also appreciate if anyone of you can share your experiences on how you solved your problems, any schematics, any pictures, any information of where to get the parts etc. Basically anything that can be of use for someone in the future. Enjoy Klipsch
  20. Hello Everybody, I was wondering how old your systems are respectively. I used to own a 4.1, although I sold it sometime ago but I know its working fine for 3.5 yrs now. People whose R12 and R26 resistors failed, how old are your systems ? Any special reason why this could have happened or probably due to normal wear and tear. Anybody who has been enjoying the system flawlessly for almost 5 years now ?
  21. yeah, according to the problem description, replacing the fuse should do the trick.
  22. the 230V version has one on the back of the subwoofer...
  23. with my sound card settings set to default, that is rear output is the same as front channel output and the surround knob set to 12 o clock on my 4.1s the rears are noticably louder than the fronts. Its the way 4.1s are designed, i have noticed the same thing with as many ProMedia 4.1 as i've seen...
