  1. Statistically you are right but practically the 4.1s (atleast the recent ones)fail to go as loud as they should.
  2. I also have the same problem with my system, the speakers seem to produce a high pitch noise after 10 minutes of plugging in, the problem is specially focussed on the front right channel. It becomes less prominent if i unplug the rears from the system, but there is still a slight noise present at that time as well. The quality on the satellites is also not up to the mark, i have compared it with other 4.1s and the high frequency response is just not good enough, also the bass is not as tight and loud as it should be..... has anybody had these symptoms alongwith the noisy channels?, any help would be really appreciated as i don't live in the US and i would have to get my 120V unit repaired from a 230V dealer.
  3. i just need to know when the 230V version will be available............. i hope it doesn't suffer from the same ordeal that the PM5.1s did.
  4. I have a PM4.1 and it does not sound as nice, clean and clear as it should, it definately has a few problems. The most noticible problem besides the quality issues is that there is a high pitch screeching noise coming from all the speakers which can be heard from 1 foot away and a quite loud high pitch screeching noise from the front right speaker which can be heard from 5 feet away. The noise is slightly low when turned on but then it reaches a constant level after a couple of minutes and keeps annoying till i turn the system off. The screeching goes off in a way which seems as if someone has turned the motor off and at the sametime sucked the noise from the speakers. The system also distorts at low volumes when the sound gets distorted alongwith music, when played at moderate volume, the distortion goes away and then the quality issue comes into highlight..... i must say the quality is crappy infront of other PMs (two 2.1s and another 4.1). HAS ANYONE EVER HAD/HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM...........ANY COMMENTS ON IT And here's a question who knows something about the internal architecture of 4.1...... i am using the 120V PM4.1s in a 230V country, so i simply can't claim warranty. I have talked to the dealer who seems confident in repairing the system for $66. My warranty lasts till July this year, now my question is whether it would be worth the wait if i send the system back to the US and get it repaired cheaply but i'd have to wait a lot for it or should i go ahead and give it to the 230V Authorized Dealer here and get it repaired....... would the dealer here manage to spoil the system? (i made a spelling mistake in the topic name, i can't remove it now......whoever made the forum, please add this feature)
  5. No it does not, it is just a PC/Personal Audio system afterall...
  6. No we don't live in the same house but we do live in a hostel with 120 IDENTICAL rooms, the furniture is also exactly the same and the setting of the rooms is also EXACTLY the same. Even the placement of the systems is the same....... Both of us are using Win2K and the same software for playing MP3s (with the same equalizer setting). Should i consider my system to be the "not so good" one . By the way i am stuck with this system as it was brought from the US and i am using it in Pakistan, so i can't even ship it back. I didn't expect such differences in quality from Klipsch . I am really disappointed as i waited 6 months for this system to finally arrive at my house (after my relatives bought it). This is a very BIG disappointment for me as i expected so much out of this purchase and y shouldn't i, i spend 17,000 rupees on PC speakers. I really love the sound when they sound right but i really really hate the fact that more than half the systems out there are faulty. My previous set (2.1s) managed to blow a mid-range driver after 6 months of use, another friend bought the PM4.1s from Pakistan ( for 18,000 rupees ) it had a "not so good sub", the amp got fried after 2 months, he is yet to recieve a good response from the dealer. My new system doesn't even sound as nice as my previous 2.1s or my friends 2.1s . Maybe next time Klipsch will be the last thing on my list while shopping for PC speakers.
  7. the placement and the room dimensions are the EXACT same, so that is not the problem. OK one last question, does the bass response get any sweeter or better as the system ages......
  8. nopes, it didn't help much. Does anybody here know how would the input voltage affect the system's performance. For example, if i run my 120 Volt system on 110 Volts, would the performance be noticably degraded, one of my friends is using a 127 Volt stabilizer for his 120 Volt 2.1 system and it ROCKS, it ROCKS more than my 4.1s........
  9. I keep both my subwoofer knob and the surround knob at 10'o clock position. I have also noticed the same effect while turning the surround knob. If it only controls the balance between the front and the rear sats then shouldn't it be called something like a fader control?.
  10. Hello, I have this PM4.1 but i always get the feeling that it should pump out more bass than how much it does, there is a lot of air coming out of the port but the bass isn't just loud enough for my taste ( SB Live! Player 5.1 ). I can feel lots of air passing near my legs but i don't feel it in the heart as i used to with my previous PM2.1 ( Creative PCI 128 ). My friend has the PM2.1 and is using the same built-in sound card ( PCI 128 ), i have noted that at times that system puts out more punchy bass than my sub. Any comments?
  11. Oh my God, the speakers have started to ROCK now........ the sound is so amazing, i can't believe it. The problem was with my windows XP, i never thought changing the speaker setup from the control panel would make such a difference. It was set to "desktop stereo speakers" by default, i changed it to "quadrophonic speakers" and the sound is back to life now....... it has made so much difference that i am totally blown away. However, one issue is yet to be addressed, the front right speaker is making above average hissing sound....... which I definately don't expect after spending $250 on PC speakers..... i am using these speakers (bought from Florida) in Pakistan and i don't think i will be able to send them back. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make this hissing go away, i have just untied and scattered the speaker cables and it has made some difference in the overall sound quality and hissing has slightly been reduced on all 4 channels....... should i tear apart the cables so that i have a separate cable for each channel, would it make any further difference in quality?. Anyways the hissing on the front right speaker is yet to be fixed...... so any suggestions?
  12. OK, the system has started to sound better or i think i am used to it now.... the other systems also sound similar, but they are only 2.1s. One of the things that i just noticed are that the treble on the system increases as i turn the surround knob. As the power is shifted to the rears the treble increases, i.e; the rears naturally have slightly more treble than the fronts. Is there anything wrong with the surround knob?. Plus the system makes a high pitch hissing noise from all the speakers when it is placed idle, the front right makes the most noise, it seems like the volume is maxed out on this speaker even when the system is idle. Besides the hissing problem, the system sounds fine now after using it for a couple of days but i don't expect a $250 speaker system to hiss...... what could be the possible reasons?.
  13. The problem is that the front right speaker hisses more than it normally should and there is slight distortion in all the 4 speakers when the volume is very low. The distortion is there when the sound output from the speakers is low, it disappears if i increase the volume either from the control pod or the software control. The hissing problem lessens when i attach only the front two, the disrortion problem almost vanishes with only the front two speakers connected. Hissing is not due to the wire or the satellite, it comes from the sub. What could be the possible reasons for such a problem?
  14. i used the word "dry" not toned down. Could it be due to a new set?, i have run some bass tests but is there any method for burning in the tweeters?
  15. i have recently upgraded from 2.1s to the 4.1s but i am finding these speakers to be very dry, they sound fine but the highs just fail to impress me, could it be due to the fact that they are new, is there any chance that the highs increase proportionally in the future?. The highs sound held back, the previous system stands out with its crystal clear highs..... which are not there in this system. Should i wait and see if it improves with use or should i contact the dealer?.
  16. I just got this opened set of PM4.1 from best buy, it seems like the wires have already been used. The hissing is slightly high and it is greatly reduced when i disengage the speakers, the mids and the highs don't have the crispness which my previous set had, infact the highs don't sound so good, the bass however is good. Could this be due to a faulty amp or due to the wires, would the monster cable help improve the mids and highs. Can i improve the sound quality using the same wires?, i had the same sort of wires on the previous set and it sounded pretty impressive, no problems with the mids and highs, no hissing problems etc.
  17. I've read a couple of topics concerning the new GMX system?, people are also talking about the specs of the system but i can't seem to find them anywhere...... can anybody guide me to the proper URL or the topic.
  18. I am thinking of upgrading the wire for my Promedias, i have no idea what brands are available out there and which is the best, plus i don't live in the US, i'll have to order them through my relatives in the US. So i was thinking if anybody can tell me the exact details regarding the brand name and model number for the wire and the gold connectors.
  19. keep the subwoofer knob at 10'o clock for the most neutral bass response. However, you might want to reduce the bass level to 9'o clock while playing low quality audio files.
  20. the control pod on the main satellite is removable, you can place it near your listening position and place the main satellite somewhere else. Ask justin for detalis about removing the control pod.
  21. Can anybody make a wild guess about the price of the SWS system?, or whether it would be worth keeping a 4.1+SWS (70+100) rather than purchasing the 5.1 (170) system. I am saying this as i think both the systems would be in the same price bracket.
