  1. Well, I've switched over to analog, and i must say it does sound smoother, and the bass is much tighter. One thing i did notice is that the imaging doesn't seem as strong, but i h aven't really messed around with my speaker placement, so I guess I'll have to see. I'm going to stick with analog for my two channel enjoyment for now.
  2. I have for quite some time been using the coax digital out on my cd player, but have been wondering why the heck I have a built in d/a converter. Does analog sound smoother even on a normal cd player (not sacd)? My converter is 1 bit.
  3. Hello all, I'm looking to upgrade my receiver from my lower level onkyo, which sounds a bit cold paired with rp-3's, and entry level sound won't cut it anymore. I have been toying with the idea of going to seperates, but the cost sems a bit prohibitive. I have been looking into marantz and denon, because they both have a warmer sound. I'd like to keep the retail under $1K so I have room to manuever in the bargain end (i'm trying to spend around 500-600). additionally, the wiz is having a closeout sale tomorrow, and they carry denon, so hopefully they will have some good discounts on floor models. Next I am looking for surrounds, obviously klipsch. Between the rb's and the rs-3's, which should i go for. the same store stocks these as well, and thr rb's are more abundandt. Any help is appreciated. These speakers have done the horrible thing of opening my ears and making hungry for more and more. I can't wait till I have a real budget to play with. ummmmmmmmm, B&W......
  4. Gil, That is fascinating stuff. Thanks for the input. But as for people that claim to hear a difference, is that just attributable to a sort of placebo effect? Or is there a possible side benefit to bi wiring, aside from preventing (possible) intermod?
  5. Hi boa, Right now i have my sub preout connected to the lfe in on the rp-3's, and have them daisy chained. i have my speaker wire connected to the top input (hi) with the band running down to the low, and my settings on the amp are sub yes and fronts small, although i may switch them to large, cant tell much of a difference, need to experiment there. As for the sub connection, i just got some monster subw. interlink with a y connection, so no more dasiy chaining. i just need to get better speaker cable, been looking mostly at monster, bi wire and not, but i would like some suggestions for other brands, if anyone has them. money is an object, but so is quality.
  6. Thanks for all the advice. I think ill have to experiment with bi-wiring and see if i like it. Hopefully I'll be able to check out a good audio store that will demo the difference for me. I have heard good bi-amping, and its great, but it was a former sony exec's system with over $10k in amps alone. The shiny will have to wait.
  7. Is there any real value in bi-wiring my rp-3's if I'm not bi-amping them? I'm looking to upgrade my cables, so any feedback is appreciated. I'm running them off an Onkyo HT reciever.
