The first two months I had my Forte III's I had them sitting on the floor. Afterwards I put them on stands I had from previous set of speakers and the elevation has improved the sound significantly. To sit properly/securely on my stands i needed to remove the small base from the bottom of the speaker cabinets, ( 4 screws on each, easy to remove). The stands are 7.5 inches high. In my room - it makes a big difference. I mostly run tube amps and listen to Jazz, and have many different amps in rotation.
My suggestion for those curious - simply try it out and see if you prefer the sound difference in your room.
