  1. Being a Chorus II owner for the last 31 years, I wondered how a 18x10 horn would look on top of a Chorus II (Chorus Top Hat?), how other modifications would affect the sound, and also what the overall dimensions of the speaker would be, CTC spacing, physical height of the Mid-horn throat compared to ear level, etc. I ordered the 18x10 and took a pic and took some basic measurements this morning (working from home is great...until I find myself completing RASIC charts & data sheets for work at 11:30pm). Below is a pic of the 18x10 on top of my Chorus II and also all of the info and physical measurements I took. Original Speaker: 1990 Chorus II (standard K-48/K-61/K-79 drivers, passive radiator, and xovers) Original Speaker DIMS: 39"H x 18.5"W x 15.5"D (includes the 3.25" risers) Original Floor-to-Center of Midrange DIM: ~30" Original C-T-C spacing between woofer and mid-horn DIM: ~11.75" Initial Speaker Modifications to be completed: * ZXPC 18x10 2" throat Midrange Horn on top of Chorus II * John Allen A55G/2 driver (w/PRV ADM25-50 adaptor) * PRV Audio D2200Ph driver (no adaptor required) * Horn External DIMS: 17.75"L x 9.8125"H x 8"D * LMAHL V2 Tweeter installed in factory location * Original K-48 woofer in factory location * Passive Radiator in factory location (no modifications) * Crites Chorus II new xover * Dynamat on horn walls * Seal and brace cabinet Modified Speaker DIMS: 48.8125"H x 18.5"W x 15.5"D (including 3.25" risers) Modified Floor-to-Center of Mid DIM: ~43.875" Modified C-T-C spacing between woofer and mid-horn DIM: ~25.5" (this CTC spacing at 600hz nags at my OCD a little, but maybe it isn't important?) Below is a pic of the 18x10 on top of the Chorus II. The cabinet is 0.75" wider than the horn flange length...leaving 0.375" on each side of the horn to build a little top hat. The overall aesthetic of a ~ 49" x 18.5" x 15.5" speaker is actually very elegant and attractive. My specific wife-acceptance-factor hinges upon the length and width of the speaker...she doesn't care how tall it is. She is an absolute 'no-go' on Cornwall or LS cabinet dimensions. Another plus, is that I am a long-bodied, 6'6" person, which places my ear at a measured 44"-45" off the floor when sitting comfortably in my listening chair. Placing the 18x10 on top of the cabinet puts the center of the mid-horn at approx 44" off the floor. Perfect for a guy my size, the chair I sit in, and who 'lives in the midrange'. Removing the risers would reduce the floor to center horn DIM to approx 40.5", if desired. The room they will be in is our 25' x 30' great room with a 9' ceiling height. No xover changes (other than the Crites new xovers) will be made. This is purely a by the ear, do I like the mid on top, is the giant 2" horn more enjoyable than the 1" smaller K61 horn, does the PRV driver sound nice, is the LMAHL V2 wonderful-er, did the bracing tighten the bass, etc etc etc. If all is good/wonderful, xover changes due to driver changes and horn changes will need to be made. Sorry for the long book of an explanation...I thank you for not nodding off during my dissertation of thoughts and goals. I thought it might be helpful for other Chorus owners on the forum who may be interested in some/all modifications.
  2. Agreed. He's the height of a Great Dane (35" at the shoulder) and the breadth of a Saint Bernard. I was in dog shows earlier in my life and have seen thousands of large dogs. He's the biggest I have seen in person.
  3. LOL....Michigander here...I had to Google 'carolina reaper'. You are correct though
  4. Thanks. He is a Bloodhound/Saint Bernard mix that I got from a shelter at 6 months. He just kept growing and at 2 years hit 200#. Genetic freak. That pic is what he looks like when running, he actually looks much less aggressive...and more mopey/goofy. But, enough of my fuzzy woofer.
  5. Kids and cats? How bout a 234# dog that loves to 'rastle? I would need a truncated pyramid shape....of Egyptian dimensions.
  6. 'Good Wood' is always the difficulty....especially as I close in on 60.
  7. I think the #131027 were $36 ea...but, they weren't more than $40. If I decide to pick up a pair, I will try to get 2 more for you. I am unsure if they have closed the border again (Michigan is getting hit hard with Covid currently). If so, I won't be seeing my sister-in-law over the holidays....but, she can send them to me if the border is closed. It just may take a little more time.
  8. Hey guys.... If I can't get my hands on the K604 horns (with the screw insert for the A55G/2 driver), does anyone have opinions on if the K510 horn would work with the A55G/2 driver (with an adaptor) and the Crites Chorus II crossover? Maybe create a top hat for the Chorus II and place the K510 on top? I am not looking to go 2-way with the K510....just wondering it I can play a little but with the K510 & A55G/2 and place it on top of the Chorus II, which would put the mid at around 44" off of the floor....which is ear-level for me as I am 6'6" tall and sit in a tall chair. I can do a little soldering/changing out of resistors/caps if required, but not experienced enough to redesign the xover by myself. (FYI...my sister-in-law who lives in the Toronto area and can get part #131027, the K510 with Mumps, from a Canadian source and bring them to me over the holidays). Thoughts?
  9. Thank you…hopefully Klipsch Parts will have a pair, and sell them to me.
  10. I noticed that also. I counted 12 screw holes in the K61 horns.
  11. The horn dimensions are exactly the same in the Chorus II : 11.375” x 6.6875”. Are you planning on holding on to those horns or maybe selling them? Steve
  12. Good Evening Forum Members, New to this forum...but old-ish speaker builder (first built pair: EV 8" 3-way kit in 1981). I am the original owner of a pair of 1990 Chorus II's...and want to 'play' a little without cutting up the boxes. Current modifications: * Crites X-overs * LMAHL V2 tweeters ***I recently purchased a pair of A55G/2 mid drivers-knowing that they won't fit the K61 horn without an adaptor. I don't want to utilize an adaptor if it can be avoided. 3 Questions: Are the mid-horns from the KP-301's the same horns used in the Chorus II (with a threaded insert)? If so, how can I get my hands on a pair? Are there any other horns that I may be able to fit into the motor board, or on top of the cabinet? Thank you for any help you can offer. Steve
