  1. Interesting topic to read. There's nothing wrong with being aware that these types of amplifiers are also sold. However, the R300 may not be built with the most expensive components, but it's definitely not a monstrosity. There are already plenty of photos available showing how it is constructed, as well as numerous reviews and experiences with this amplifier.
  2. I do indeed think that I will hear fairly soon how different (or not) the La Scala sounds compared to the Cornwall. I have been listening to the CW4 almost daily for a year now, and I have a good idea of how this speaker can sound. Although it always takes some getting used to when you hear the same speakers in a different room/setup.
  3. Sorry, I can't determine whether you're being sarcastic or serious.
  4. You say that you would choose the La Scala over the Cornwall in a heartbeat. But have you ever been able to compare them to each other to say this so confidently?
  5. Honestly, I'm surprised that you couldn't really hear a direct difference (apart from the bass). Intuitively, I would expect a noticeable difference in the midrange. Doing a direct A/B comparison is difficult. They do have the CW4 and the La Scala, but they are in different listening rooms. And then, as you already mentioned, you're also comparing different acoustics and equipment. By the way, I don't expect to have to add an extra 8k. They are demo speakers with a large ugly spot on the veneer. If the asking price is not below 10k, then I'm definitely not interested. From what I could see in the price history on hifishark.com, they sell for under 10k as used items, and in perfect condition.
  6. So you own the CW4 and you have heard the AL-5. Beside the difference in bass, what difference did you hear between these speakers? . Is the mid that much better on the AL-5 compared to the CW4?
  7. You're so right. It was the original lascala. The audiocompany who bought them from me have them still for sale. Klipsch La Scala € 4.000,00 https://link.marktplaats.nl/m1953250813?utm_source=android_social&utm_content=vip&utm_medium=android_social&utm_campaign=socialbuttons This is the original lascala, correct?
  8. Thank you for your response. The funny thing is that I actually owned the orrigonal Lascala myself. This was many years ago, and it had been a long time since I last listened to them. I had them connected to a modified Dynaco ST70 II amplifier, which made the sound unpleasant for me. If I remember correctly, there was a very annoying resonance in the midrange. I remember that this caused my audiophile passion to fade away, and the Lascala speakers ended up sitting in the garage for about 15 years while I used a Sonos system as speakers. But then, when I bought the Heresy 2 speakers, my passion reignited, and soon after, I got the Chorus speakers. Shortly after that, I upgraded to the Cornwall 3, and two months later, I got the Cornwall 4. And voila, my passion for Klipsch and music is back in full swing! It's a long story, but the main point is that, based on my very old memories, the Lascala didn't sound nearly as good as the Cornwall 4. However, this may not be fair at all because back then I had a Dynaco amplifier that I didn't like. Are you using a sub by the way? Edit: changed lascala 2 to original lascala
  9. My local hi-fi dealer is offering a demo pair of Lascala LA-5 speakers for sale. Although the price is not yet determined, I expect a favorable price given the fact that one speaker has a blemish on the veneer. It's something I don't mind, by the way. Next week, I will be testing some amplifiers, and I also want to listen to the Lascala as I'm really interested in it. Maybe I'll even trade in my CW4 for the Lascala AL-5. Arethere people who have been able to directly compare the CW4 with the Lascala AL-5? What are your findings? Where did the Lascala excel compared to the CW4, and what might the CW4 be better at than the Lascala? I listen to tube amplifiers and have a living room that is 12 meters deep and 5.5 meters wide. The speakers are positioned in the middle of the long wall. I mainly listen to organic music, jazz, blues, vocals, acoustic music, and light pop. I know that the Lascala produces less bass, and my intention is not to add a subwoofer to the system. One question I have is, even though I'm not a bass-head, whether the lack of low-end will be a problem for the type of music I listen to.
  10. Yes, I have horns, the Cornwall 4. Any tips for the rectifier tubes?
  11. Mehhhh.... WE300B are sold to someone else... 😖
  12. It is because of this review that I am starting to have doubts. The reviewer claims to have tried multiple good tubes and found the audible difference to be minimal. I have no experience with tube rolling, so I don't know what to expect in terms of the noticeable difference a good tube can make. Additionally, this reviewer did not test the WE300B tube in this amplifier. Can the WE300B tube actually make a significant difference, or is this amplifier simply not suited for it? I hope someone here has more experience with this and can share their insights with me.
  13. Its a matched pair of original WE300B Western Electric 300B Matched Pair € 1.500,00 https://link.marktplaats.nl/m1981856924?utm_source=android_social&utm_content=vip&utm_medium=android_social&utm_campaign=socialbuttons
  14. Guys, please help me if you can. The same person from whom I bought the R300 is also selling used WE 300B tubes. He wants to give me a discount by lowering the price from $1500 to $1250. According to him, they have played for less than 100 hours. I have no idea if this is true, but considering the number of hours WE claims these tubes should last, it doesn't seem to be an issue anyway. But now the question is, does anyone have any idea if the difference between the stock tubes and the WE 300B is truly noticeable? I know that everyone has their own perception of audible differences, but perhaps someone has tried these tubes (or other high-quality tubes) in this amplifier? One reason I'm hesitant is because of a well-known reviewer on YouTube who found that better tubes made very little difference in this amplifier. And if that's true, then $1250 is a lot of money for an upgrade that is almost inaudible.
  15. It's not the amount of bass, it's the punch in the bass what I'm looking for. Is this something a 300B SET can offer?
  16. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'd be happy to discuss what works or doesn't work regarding updates. I did come across this post before, and it is certainly interesting to follow, although it seems like that person focuses a lot on the amplifier. However, I'm also interested in hearing about the modifications you are planning to make. Can you perhaps describe what difference you hear with changing the tubes? Have you seen the link I posted earlier? There's someone who worked on the capacitors and claims to have achieved excellent results. Personally, I have ordered two different preamp tubes that, according to another topic, should sound better. I should be receiving them on Friday, hopefully. The TAD 6SN7GT... Have you been able to compare the performance of the R300 to other SET 300B amplifiers?
  17. Wow... Euhhh... Hang on, I think you are replying to a post I started some time ago. At this point I was just starting with upgrading my HiFi set...and yes, a lot have changed 😄 (and still is 😉) At that period I bought the Melody MDA2 (2A3 tubes) After that I tried some other amps because I wanted to upgrade my set. And recently I found a Decware zen triode and since two days also the Willsenton R300. Meanwhile giving cables and powercords a chance... So, yeah... Having a good time with this hobby, and still a lot to learn 🙃
  18. The R300 doesn't have the best 300B tubes. And probably there have been budgetary choices made regarding the construction of the amplifier. What is a rough estimate of the percentage of improvement that could be achieved by using good tubes and quality electronics? The reason I'm asking this is because I'm wondering, now that I've heard an affordable SET 300B amplifier, if this is the type of sound I can expect from a SET 300B.
  19. The R300 have only two 300B tube's The other two are rectifiers
  20. I'm not sure if it's unfair. In terms of price, they are quite similar, if you use that as a guideline, then I find the comparison fair. But as you mentioned, the R300 is most likely built with less high-quality material than the Zen Triode. And the Decware 300B will undoubtedly sound better, but it also comes with a different price. 4k vs 1k An interesting topic about upgrading the R300 for those who are interested https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/question-about-capacitor-upgrade-in-tube-amp?page=2
  21. Thank you 😊 Well, like I said a few post before, a reviewer claimed that there is not much difference between a very good 300B tube and the stock tubes. So spending such amount of money on WE tubes is perhaps not the best thing to do
  22. I know you have a lot of knowledge about tube amplifiers, so maybe what I'm about to say is pointless. But could it be that the design of the Zen Triode deviates from what you're used to, which is why the Decware amplifier sounds so special? I haven't heard many amplifiers, but so far, the Zen Triode has made the biggest impression on me. More so than the Melody MDA2, Dynaco ST70II, Melody 211 everest, and the R300. I have to mention that my Zen Triode no longer has the original tubes; I've replaced them with Russian NOS 6p14p-EB tubes. As for the R300, it sounded good... but I didn't feel compelled to keep listening. I didn't keep trying different songs to see how they would sound on the amplifier. Something I did experience with the Zen Triode. It creates such a strong holographic image. Sometimes it sounds eerily realistic, which is something I find very appealing.
  23. I thought it was mentioned in this review (not sure), but the reviewer was of the opinion that changing the 300B tubes didn't provide much improvement in terms of sound. If I remember correctly, he believed that more improvement could be achieved by changing the other tubes. Since the 300B tubes are quite expensive, I'm hesitant to replace them with better/more expensive tubes, knowing that it probably won't make much of a difference. If anyone has experience with replacing the tubes in this amplifier, I would love to hear about it.
  24. This was truly my very first impression when listening to the R300. To be honest, it sounded better than I initially expected. It sounds really good for the price, actually. Despite reading all the positive reviews, I didn't have such high expectations, to be honest. But since I really wanted to try a SET 300B amplifier, this seemed like a great option. Affordable and with many glowing reviews. I'll continue listening for now. I know from experience that opinions can change (especially mine 🙃). My first impression yesterday was just a snapshot. Maybe I'll try different tubes or modifications to the amplifier itself. I also want to compare it with my Melody MDA2 and see how it stacks up. But for now, as a first impression, it sounds good... but the Decware Zen Triode wins for me.
