  1. If I may comment regarding the preamp. I had recently shared the same opinion as @henry4841. Listen to the music as it is presented and keep the signal as pure as possible. I also once started a topic here about why I would use a preamp at all if I can also use the volume control of my media streamer to keep my audio signal pure as possible. However, when testing what suited me better, with or without a preamp, I chose with a preamp. Although I could not clearly name what difference I heard which made me more comfortable with the preamp. At that time I had a different preamplifier by the way, the Perraux SA2 without any tone control. In this periode i got a lot of help from @EpicKlipschFan and I adopted his vision of using tone control when needed, and frankly I liked it. Some songs can have benefited from a little more bass for example, due to a somewhat poorer recording. So now I have the NAD1000s. Most of the time I by pass the tone controle.. But with some songs, or when I'm in the mood for some more bass, then i increase the bass with +1 or +2 These are the Amps I have listened with the demo. Probable it will be one of the 2 Melody's https://www.line-magnetic.eu/en/products-line-magnetic-en/integrated-tube-amplifier-line-magnetic-en/lm-845-premium-amplificateur-intΓ©grΓ©-single-ended-845-2x30w-detail https://melodyhifi.eu/product/melody-dpm80/ https://melodyhifi.eu/product/melody-an300b-max/ https://stereo-magazine.com/article/cayin-introduces-new-tube-amplifier-cs-805a (This amplifier was the most striking in terms of sound difference , and with the first impression I liked this a lot. A lot of dynamics, very clear and clean sound, but i heard a lot of sharp edges on some songs. )
  2. That's a long and informative answer. Thank you very much for this. I've read it with interest, and although this is quite technical for me, a side I really know nothing about, I found it very interesting to read it. However, I will only use the preamp with this amplifier, the Dynaco. The new amplifier has a built-in preamplifier. I will keep the NAD and Dynaco. First, because I get too little in return. But also because I like being able to make changes in my setup. But for upcoming amp I will never use the NAD. Still an interesting comment πŸ‘πŸ»
  3. I know I am the only one to decide. I also don't ask which tube I should Choose. The reason I'd like to know how each tube sounds and how they differ from each other is to be a little more confident with the following listening demo. I can then focus better on the possible differences, and when in doubt between amplifiers, I can better convince myself, on the basis of the knowledge, that what I think I am hearing is correct or not.
  4. I use a preamp indead. The NAD 1000s.. Although I bypass this, I have this in use for possible tone control when needed. And the pots are for manual gain adjustment.
  5. I had a first demo at the hifi dealer And I've heard some amps. But I find it extremely difficult to hear the differences properly and doubt myself whether I hear it correctly. I didn't heard the punch in the 300b tubes to be honest.. It was very detailed, Warm and easy listening. The KT150 seemed a bit brighter, more punch and dynamics. I had the feeling I liked the kt150 the best. But I doubt very much whether I hear these differences correctly.
  6. Perhaps your right. Sorry for posting in the wrong section. Maybe a moderator can move this topic to the correct one? Thanks in advance.
  7. A question about the sound differences between the EL34, 300B and the KT150. My set consists of the CW4 and a Dynaco ST70 EL34 tube amplifier. A nice amplifier but it does offer room for improvement. What I would like to improve in the sound is a bit more dynamics/vibrancy, more detail, a bit fresher sound (slightly less hummmm), a bit tighter and more punchy bass, the large midrange of the EL34, and a great live feel. I'll probably have a second listening demo at the hi-fi shop next week and hope to come up with a choice regarding a new amplifier. In the first listening demo I listened to a number of different nice amps equipped with the 300b tube and an amp with the KT150 tube. The problem is that I have 0 experience with amplifiers. I only know my current Dynaco ST70. Unfortunately, trying the amplifiers at home is not an option so I have to hear during the demo which amplifier suits me the best. And frankly, I have a lot of trouble with this due to lack of experience and also the pressure to make the right choice. Are there tube listeners who know these three tubes well, and can tell me what difference between these tubes I should hear in theory?
  8. You bought the CW4 I think? And why the feeling you have wasted your money? Why don't you like the sound?
  9. If you want to sell them, you can use https://www.hifishark.com to get an idea of what the market value is. These are a bit of weird times now. The asking price for vintage speakers is unrealistically high. Nice for the seller, but not every buyer is willing to pay the current high asking prices for vintage speakers
  10. @Darkscience thank you for your feedback. What do you mean with the subs are not doing anything for you? They are not working at all?.. Or are they incorrectly adjusted I'm going to order these pads right now I will let you know what the result is with me.
  11. Interesting topic πŸ‘πŸ». Are these the pads you placed under the speakers? I miss the punch in the bass on the CW4.. Did these pads also give more punch? And what kind of an amp do you use?.. Tube amp of a SS amp DiversiTech MP2-E E.V.A. anti-vibratie pad, 2" x 2" x 7/8", Pack van 4 https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B01KAFG8EG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_Z4XJZ1D0DKXA12WGNRH2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
  12. Ehm guys... Relax... Put on some jazz and zennnnnn πŸ™πŸ˜‡
  13. I read very interesting comments about the audible differences between the different types of midhorns. Good to hear that others recognize what I thought I heard too. I was almost starting to doubt myself. I have no knowledge about how horns work, but as it is described in a few posts I think it sounds very logical, but also very recognizable with what I hear myself. It is also positive that is explained that both type of horns have their advantages and disadvantages. I think any prospective buyer of the next generation of Heritage speakers could use this information to figure out what his/her sound preference is.
  14. Thank you very much for the tips and help. I apriciate it. πŸ‘πŸ» 1- my preamp does have tonecontrol and if I want I can add some base. I haven't done it yet but it is possible. Is +1 bass the same as 2 dB 30HZ? Edit: let me be a bit more precise, is adding more bass the same as increasing the 30hz range? 2-I'm sorry, but I don't you understand what you mean with this. Edit: found your explenation, I'm going to give it a try πŸ‘πŸ» 3-i haven't done much with adjusting the position of the speakers yet. First I want to get used to the sound so i can hear the small differences better. But I'll give this a try tonight. 4-i will let you know πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the link. I had read it before. An interesting post indeed. There is also an interesting review online from someone who also had problems with the bass and had solved this by placing the speakers against the wall. (your tip nr3) https://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/speaker/floor-standing/klipsch-cornwall-iv-speaker-review/
  15. Not really.. Just an old Onkyo Integra 105w. If I connect the CW4 to the SS amp the bass is tighter, more energy. But this is always the case with a tubeamp vs *** amp.
  16. Chorus is a very cool speaker. I wish it was the Chorus 2,but still these are very nice speakers indead. Thank you for the explenation, OK...lets see after 80 more hours. Would be awesome if the bass will improve a bit
  17. Sorry.. I don't know who Shakeydeal is, and I don't understand what "flippant comments" mean..can you perhaps say it in a different way? Because I have a more nuanced opinion about the CW4 doesn't mean I'm not enjoying them πŸ˜‰
  18. Interesting thoughts about the horns. What I still don't really hear in the CW4 and what I did hear in the CW3 is a certain lightness around certain sounds. For example, brushes over the fleece of a drum. That sound came with the CW3 very airy, loose and detailed from the midhorn. That gave me a very realistic experience. CW4 does this great too, nothing wrong with it, but I miss that airy feeling around the brushes. To make sure, I'm not saying the CW4 ain't good. I really like this speaker. It's just doing some things a bit different.
  19. @billybob I don't know.. 120+ hours of playtime now, I will be surprised if the speaker will change that much with more break in time. But who knows, more punchy/tighter bass would be welcome. @mikebse2a3and no, no problem with sharing a picture of the room. Nothing special to see and this can give an idea of the room and acoustic perhaps Behind me is the kitchen, but I don't think this will effect the acoustic in any way
  20. The same for me, I didn't expect it either
  21. This was a quick and first impression. If someone is bathed in a serious comparison, let me know. It's going to take me some time but I'll do that in a weekend. They are more similar to each other than different. If I ask my girlfriend blindfolded to pick the latest speaker (CW4) she would have no idea. What I did hear was that the Chorus had slightly more bass (I was surprised) but also a more pleasing bass. More punch/tight. Difference was slightly but noticeable. With the mids the CW4 was more neutral. More easy to listen. Chorus was slightly sounding like a horn (again, slightly..) and could be with some songs a bit sharp with the midhorn. With a dull sounding song this could give the song some more bite, what was more pleasing for me. But other songs could sound a bit to sharp. I can understand that some like the mids from the CW4 better with these songs . I had the feeling that the CW4 was better with creating a soundstage, more was happening between the speakers (would have to check this better to be sure) For me the Chorus won with the bass, the CW4 with his midhorn... But again, They were very similar as speakers, certainly no day and night difference, and surtenly not " the CW4 smokes the Cornwall", etc
  22. Yep.. Still own them. And the Heresy 2πŸ˜‰
  23. Sure... But it was a short comparison, Not done in an audiophile perfect correct way. I played 8 different songs in total. After the song was complete I switched from speakers, then the first speaker set is completely pushed aside and the other set placed in exactly the same place. Reconnect the cables to the new speakerset, and listen. On the picture you can see where the CW4 is placed. This was the position for both speakersets. But it was just a message, not a question for help
  24. Just a quick impression of how the speakers are performing now after a week. I let it play for 48 hours this weekend so a total of 110+ hours break in. What I notice about the sound is that the bass is slightly more present. I know a few songs through and through and I can use them very well as a reference. I don't notice much difference in sound so far, apart from a little more bass, it seems to me they sound exactly the same. And that means they sound good, But for me no audible differences after 110+ break in time apart from a little more bass I did make a short comparison with the Chorus 1 and the Cornwall 4. Since the Chorus 1 is still in the corner of the living room for the time being, it was relatively easy to reconnect them. Nice to hear the differences, but certainly not a day and night difference.
