  1. This is my personal audio setup; Acoustic Edge 5.1 Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Klipsch DD-5.1 Preamp / Decoder The way I have it setup right now is that I am using a Y-splitter to split the input of the PM5.1 so that I can connect both AE5.1 and DD5.1 to it. Reason I do it this way is that I want to play 5.1 mp3 using my AE5.1 and I also want to be able to use my DD5.1 to decode DVD and to watch DolbyDigital movie on my Tivo. http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/45/44875/3.5mmmff.jpg The above is a link to the picture of the Y splitter. The problem w/ the Y splitter is that when I listen to my DD5.1, the volume is cut down because the voltage is split between the PM5.1 and the AE5.1. It is ok if when I listen to my AE5.1 because I can just shut off the DD5.1 and it will appear as OPEN (high impedance). Since there is no way to shut off AE5.1 other than shutting down my computer, I have decided to make a switch. Here is the general plan. DD-5.1<===PM5.1===>FL, FR ----> Switch 1----->AE5.1 DD-5.1<===PM5.1===>SL, SR ----> Switch 2----->AE5.1 DD-5.1<===PM5.1-===>S,C -------> Switch 3----->AE5.1 The idea is to switch on and off of the AE5.1's output to the PM5.1. When the switches are OFF, the line will see an OPEN, thus elinating a path for the voltage to split up. (of course when they are all ON, I will shut off my DD-5.1 to listen to my AE5.1 only) The main component involved is very simple... 1. TWO of these 009%5F003&product%5Fid=274%2D246" target=_blank>3.5 mm 3 Conductor Female Jack 2. One 003%5F000&product%5Fid=275%2D612" target=_blank>SPST mini switch The plan is to connect the L and R of item 1 to the L and R of item 1 (since there are two of them) and then use the switch to switch on and off of the GND connection. Do you guys think this is gonna work? Will this pose any signal degradation / spike problems? Feel free to advice.
  2. cna you further explain why you said Santa Cruz can't do DD5.1? Do you mean that it won't do a digital pass thru to external decoder or do you mean that it can't output DD5.1 Analog Signal? I have heard that the new driver can do that but not sure, maybe someone who uses Santa Cruz can chime in.
  3. how about Philips Acoustic Edge?
  4. I am planning on revamping my audio system at home. My current "system" is not note-worthy to mention. My friend has a Promedia 5.1 system and he strongly recommend me to get it. I look into it and since i have a Tivo (optical output) and everything I am thinking about getting the DD-5.1 SYSTEM (w/ the speakers) on Klipsch. I have a few questions come into my mind.... 1)Which sound card should I get? The primary focus of the system will be DVD MOVIES AND MUSIC. Gaming comes second. I have looked and kinda narrow it down to Santa Cruz, AE, and GTXP. I am open to suggestions. Here is what I want to do...I want to use the digital output of the sound card (digital coaxial) to output any 5.1 stream digitally to my DD-5.1 for it to decode and playback via the promedia 5.1 speakers. 2)For my music (mp3), I would like to use the Promedia 5.1 as the output speakers also. However, is that possible to do via the DIGITAL output of the sound card? (I would imagine the SC need to an Analog to Digital chip for this?? and I am not sure which card can or cannot do.) People talk about 5.1 mp3, is that possible w/ the digital DVD setup that I mentioned in 1)? Or do I need to use the analog output of the sound card to do this? if so, can someone describe how to archieve this w/ the DD-5.1 system (wiring)? 3)Last but not the least, GAMING. How should it be wired for gaming? I undersatnd that most game do not support digital out (maybe I am wrong?) and so I need to have speakers connected to the analog output of the sound card for this. Again, how can I archieve this w/ the DD-5.1 system? I am kinda confused because I see many way of wiring the system depending on the situation. Is there a easy way to go about it instead of swapping wires whenever I want to go from one to another? As you can see I am a bit confused here, please advice. Thanks in advance.
  5. Is Klipsch online store the only place at this moment that sells the DD-5.1? Is there any other online or B&M store that sells it? Thanks in advance.
