  1. Well that built in wall shelf will be done this week! I hope... I was told by the Better Cable rep on the phone to used the least amount of connectionss and always (if possible) connect your video sources direct to your RPTV. After that I then talked to Yamaha customer service and that somewhat agreed but they added that our connections on the RV-2200 are "merely pass through and the signal never enters the preamp stage therefore no distortion no matter how slight would be in the signal, video connections are there for user convenience" However both BC and YAM stated that because my receiver did not have some transducing auto conversion whatca ma callit I would need to run a S-Video out of the reciever to the PRTV since the cable box is S-Vid and a component video cable to the RPTV since the DVD player is component video. GEEEEZZ now I' really confused. The plan was to use short and some what high end video cables (N O T the $400 per meter stuff) from source to A/V receiver and one somewhat high end video cable to the RPTV and keep the audio short digital coax. Is that still the plan? I guess not? Regards, mm
  2. I do like the RF-3II vs the SF-2 however in an effort to get a "matched" set of speakers for my first home theater I went with the lesser expensive Synergy line. After some negotiation I got about 18% off retail from the local authorized dealer. However the RF-3II do have a better sound. Better mids and bass. They also have better dispersion IMHO. I got a web price of $549.92 + shipping. The sales rep said they get them from an authorized dealer and I will get a sales reciept from that dealer... hmmmmm. The place is so close I can even pick them up. We'll see about all that. mm
  3. damn ear that was cold yo!
  4. In my quest of researching separate components I have found that Lexicon is made by Crown Audio Inc. Does Crown have direct replacement unit for the Lexicon? I know that JBL does for some Lexicon models. All are in the Harmon Kardon family. Regards, Mike HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
  5. I'm thinking about an early Christmas present. Either RF-3II or RF-5 fronts and the RC-3 or RC-7 center. Can I use my current SF-2 as rear surrounds? The Klipsch web site and many of you here on the forum push timbre, bass and efficeincy matching of speakers. Heck just by the looks of the thing (tower speaker vs. the wedgy look of a surround) I'd rather have the SF-2 but... how will it all sound together? Regards to all, Mike BTW, Happy Holidays everyone!
  6. my bad i got a little to quick on the clicker? any pros or cons on this product. it looks very impressive. mike
  7. according to klipsch you should only use the RC-3 and RS-3 with the RF-3II however the RF-5 can use either the RC-3/RC-7 and RS-3/RS7 as surround and center mates. i like the sound of the RS-3II but i cannot tell that much difference versus the RF-5 for movies. the main concern is not to compromise the quality of the center and surround channels if i upgrade. there was an intersting post suggesting RF-3II's as surrounds when using RF-5/7 as main l/r channels. the RF-3II is lesser expensive i think than RS-7. man am i confused now. still think i am leaning to SVS sub/s over the RSW line. sorry diehard klipsch fans. mike
  8. Is this pattern true in all Klipsch speakers?
  9. What would you do? I have been looking at the Yamaha RZ-V1, Denon 5803 and Pioneer 49TX/i. I have found them from about $2100 (yamaha) - $3000 (denon) on the web. Also I have been looking at Adcom, Sunfire, Oultaw and Lexicom. True the pricing is more that double but I want something I can "set and forget". Are there any manufactures that are making software upgradable preamps? That would be way cool but would cut into future sales of the model xyz-1a that replaced the one year old model xyz... mm
  10. the real hang up for me is the pricing. the cs ultra is $1295 which is only $100 more than the best deal i found on the web for a rsw15 (from an e-tailer who claims to be a dealer looking for an alternative means of distribution to meet numbers in a softened economy) and the 1646pc+ is $320 less! true in home theater mode so to speak you want to "feel" the bass for that cinema affect while that is not needed with most music. however most of my system use is with dvd's at present until sacd and dvd-a becomer more prevelant. mm
  11. I am looking to upgrade already! Current KSW-12 is only 13 months old (hey any potential buyers?). I have not heard the SVS line but the industry trade rags and many forum groups say they are the bomb... literally. The Ultra is a modified 20-39 CS+ (w/outboard "Samson 1000" power amp) with an improved driver and the 16-46PC+ contains a built in (powered) 525W BASH amp. I really like the Klipsch line but dollars are starting to get my attention here. Regards, Mike
  12. anyone ever here of these folks? they have a banner on www.avsforum.com (very cool site, i was very impressed). the price for what you get seem great and they have won several awards. i wonder what "family" of monster cable does their product line compare with? regards, mmiles
  13. boa12, i have a yammy v2200 same with me on the crossover issue?
  14. tell us more about "hdpc". if not on the forum you can email me at mam165@comcast.net. i often thought when will pc's and software replace preamps, onscreen programming options, system control, media selection etc.? hey the got pc / ham radios so it could happen.
  15. maybe the lower brightness level means it has better veiwing characteristics in high level lighting than previous models. just a thought. get on panasonics web site and email them the question and update the group.
  16. i'd look at the 55" mits and pioneer elite first. bigger in girth for sure but smaller in dollars. depends on room size and if you want bragging rights at your next high school reunioun. is there a spell checker on this forum?
  17. maybe one of the seasoned video vets will step forward and assist us in our quest of "how long" is "to long". reading in my yamaha manual the say you can connect dvd to component video on rear of recevier and connect tv (sounds so insultive to call a 55" mits a "tv") to the reciever via s-video or video (which looks like a rca jack?). someone help us and i'll stop chewing up bandwidth... promise.
  18. from my last posting it seems the majority say keep the audio connection as short as possible. based on my newly planned location for the a/v receiver, dvd and digital cable box the video cable from the dvd to the tv would be about 20-23 feet. would you run component video, s-video or would you connect the dvd video to the receiver (yamaha 2200) and back out? patience all you seasoned folks out there. hey when it's done,if i move all this stuff, i'll post a pic! exiting i know... really!
  19. what is a good tune up dvd for both surround sound and video? i subsribe to sound and vision i think the have one for $14.95 or maybe it's free, i don't know. comments are welcome.
  20. ok i really feel stupid. i have had this cute little gadget for a year and cant seem to get it programmed. i got it from ebay (the guy had 1800+ feedbacks and only a few negatives) last december. i think my equipment maybe to new (1st yamaha rcv 2200 sold by tweeters in delaware in nov. 2001) or something for the version of software in the pronto. i really would like to use the thing and can all the remotes. is there someway i can get an updated version of software? is there someone that can set this thing up?
  21. want to move system. currently all equip is in a logan rack about 2' from the tv. i want to put receiver in a built in book case about 14" from the tv (once the cable run is done routed under the floor and into the new location estimate lenght is 20' from tv. present dvd is connected directly to tv component video in with high end monster cable (about 9') and audio is connect via high end monster cable fiber digital audio (3'). digital cable box is connected to tv with standard rg59 coax and to receiver with monster cable gold end rca jacks (3') for audio. well after boring you folk i see my options as endless therefore i am very confused on what to do so not to sacrifice audio or video quality. the store told me to ALWAYS connect dvd directly to tv and not to receiver. so i think the best way is to place dvd on top of tv (very light) and look for a high quality L O N G audio cable. will tv feedback into dvd player? it has not affected the center channel to date the rest front and center of tv. digital cable box can go next to receiver and i could run the low loss rg59 to and from tv (about 20' as mentioned) with no problem, the cable left me tons of cable! well how about everyone what should i do?
