  1. I also have the original Promedia computer speakers back when it was offered by Compaq for free.  4 speakers.  Back then the Promedia was offered as 4 speakers THX certified.

I recently replaced the rubbers around the subwoofer.  Amazingly, Klipsch had the parts!  These speakers sound amazing and are perfectly sized for computer operations and music and gaming.  I see NO reason to replace them other than with parts if they are still available when they wear out.

  2. JH of Stereophile gave it one of the highest reviews I have ever seen of a speaker of the original Fortes.  They interviewed one of the original Klipsch engineers and he said it met all design parameters or something like that and that it came across to me as saying, nuth'n need improvement on and I don't understand why they did it?

  3. SR only reviewed quality equipment and why the reviews seem sugar-coated.  Most mags will, of course, only review quality stuff and not JUNK (why waste your time and their time) and that's why they all seem "sugar-coated".

Without reading the article again, and not having read SR in a long time, I think many, if not all, of those reviews by Mr. Hirsch were sugar-coated to some degree. There appeared to be much politics (or salesmanship) going on in those reviews. Those products reviewed were made by companies purchasing ad space in SR.

I don't remember, and again its been awhile since reading SR, ole Julian every giving a real thumbs down on any audio product run through his lab.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Forte, as in my family we own three pair, but like you, we purchased only after listening.

When someone may ask me to recommend a loudspeaker (and that's not often), I suggest Klipsch, but I also tell them to listen to as many as possible and purchase the loudspeaker which sounds best to THEM, and of course is within their price range. No need to take out a second mortgage to get good sound.

I just don't rely much on those reviews, and only as a starting point if I read about a product that sounds interesting.

Personally, and just my opinion, I think Julian was "placating" Paul after years of professional tension.

Is it just me, or did Mr. Hirsch look like a member of the Coneheads?

  4. I think he was intimidate by the size and that is why he has that gushing review like a girl next to the Rock or something.  He kept putting his hands to his lips and probably like he just got kissed by Raquel Welch or something.

That said, the other thing I got was that I might consider the Klipsch Chorus as my next speaker.  He clearly is intimidated by the size and overwhelmed like he was on a first date with someone out of his league.
