  1. Dang, I just realized I ordered a 400vdc cap instead of a 600vdc cap. And from what I gather a 600vdc cap is not available in 2.2uf.
  2. Hi All, I'm installing these caps this weekend to replace the Audio 1 caps in there now. Can someone tell me if it matters the orientation of how the 2.0uf 400 vdc cap is installed. I notice there is a green wire on one side and a red on the other. Does it matter how the signal flows through the cap to be optimal? Thanks, Tom
  3. For all the money he would owe me, he'd be mowing till my retirement! Tom
  4. Would I be able to to purchase drivers for these speakers cost effectively, any recomendations? Thanks for your response, Tom
  5. Hi All, My son was rocking out the house last night, a little Black Sabbath War Pigs. He comes down to tell me he thinks he damaged the speakers because he smelled smoke and they started cutting out. I went up to check and found the right speaker had an odor omitting out of it and no sound coming out of the woofer driver. the left speaker had "plopping" sound coming out of the woofer driver but would firm up when I would put my hand on it. Both tweeters seem to be OK. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Tom

  7. I did some research on what those trim pots do, and all I found was this on Audio Asylum: The pots are used to adjust output level of the + and - phase output for each channel. You need a sine-wave test CD as source and an oscilloscope to match the amplitube of + and - output. I'm not sure about using a VOM. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Play a test disc with a 1kHz tone and set the volume control to 75 on the display. Now set the VOM to AC setting and measure the voltage btw the phase + to ground and phase - to ground. Now, turn the trimpot until both phases voltages are the same. Repeat the other channel. I got this info from SF. I'm not sure what there refering to as to what phase + phase - is, can some one be more specific on what I'm suppose to be plugging my VOM leads into, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  8. Hi Guys, Maybe someone can guide me in the right direction. I've heard of nothing but great things about the Sonic Frontiers Line 1 pre, so I picked one up on the secondary market since they can not be had new. My system is very revealing, and I have been going around in circles between cables & tube changes trying to eliviate to what I equate to a shreiky upper mid which makes it intolerable to listen to cds (on a Musical Fidelity A5) at moderatley higher levels. The analog front end is a bit more forgiving but can still be a bother. I was ready to condem the Line 1 as just not being a good match for my system when I noticed those trim pots inside. I know I'm not suppose to adjust them, but since this a used unit with some history and having the problem that I'm having, I decided to turn them down. Taking note as to there original position I began to turn them down incrementally, the more I turned them down the more balance the sound became, even the highs became more detailed and focused, and was able to turn it up without wanting to run out the door. I have concluded that someone on deafer ears than I turned these up, can anyone provide me with some assistance on what would be a optimal position for these pots or do I just adjust them until it sounds good? Thanks, Tom
  9. Yes, I tried that, the motor still pops when you turn it off, not as loud as he Halogen lamp though.
  10. Hi All, Can anyone tell me why I hear a popping noise through my speakers when I turn off my pulley motor to my Scoutmaster. I also pick up the same popping yet louder when I click off and on a halogen lamp I have next to my turntable. The motor is plugged into the same power conditioner as my components and yet the lamp is plugged into the same wall outlet as the power conditioner, any clues? Tom
  11. Gary, How much would it cost to ship 500 lp's to 60107 area code?[] Tom
  12. Danny, Funny enough yours were the ALK's that got sold off if my memory serves me correct. I rebought a pair here from another forum member a few weeks back that got me one step closer to my goal. Tom
  13. Hi Guys, It's been awhile. The last time I did some regular posting here was about two years ago, family issues and financial situations caused me to lose focus on my love of music and the equipment that accompanies it, forcing me to sell all but my La Scala's and rebuilt and modded by me Dynaco Mark III's. Thanks again to all the forum members that helped me out by purchasing the equipment at the time of need. Well I'm back thanks to this forum and a few members that I have aquired some of my (to me) new equipment and the rest basically picked up on Audiogon. After months of trial and error, buying and swapping equipment in and out of my system, trying to capture that "magic" that I once had, finally came to a conclusion on the analog side last night with the final tweaks to my newly aquired ScoutMaster with Signature JMW9 arm. I have a DL103 cart on this rig and the mass of the arm does not allow for proper VTF adjustment, plus causing it not to sound all that great. I didn't have headshell weight handy so I took a penny with some modeling clay stuck it dead center just behind the mounting screws of the cart on top of the a headshell, doing so adding 3.1 grams of mass. I then set the VTF at 2.5, adjusted the azumith (sic), VTA, and when I sat down to listen to some Steely Dan Aja, I got the chills and had smiles from ear to ear, the taught bass, that in the room midrange, all and all a very musical presentation that draws you in. It's been a fun ride back, and I'm glad I got my sounds! Thanks to all, Tom
