  1. I recently bought a nice pair of Chorus I's. My amp is Marantz PM6008 (70 wpc at 8 ohms). Folks have mentioned that to really get the bass kicking, they recommend at least 100 wpc. I definitely felt that the bass was lacking even when I turned up the bass equalizer and pumped the volume, so connected I connect one of my powered subs (Linn Sizmik 10.25) to fill in the low end. The result was very satisfying. Since I now have the low end filled in, would there be any additional benefit to the mid and treble of my Chorus' by getting a higher powered amp? I've been looking in the last week, and it's really tough (impossible?) to find something nice at 200 wpc on a modest budget (e.g. $300 or less). I'd far prefer to stick with what I have, so long as I'm not missing anything. I don't listen to music particularly loudly. Genres that I really love to enjoy on these are classical (piano, cello), folk, and hip hop.
  2. She saw the speakers and didn't demand that I return them. Not only that, she sat right down in the listening chair without my request and enjoyed a few tunes. I then turned them way louder and we danced around the living room to some bops. I call that a big win. They aren't as "imposing" as I thought they may be (except, if I put a "normal" sized speaker in the same room). These are, undoubtedly, a great addition to our home. Looking forward to years of enjoyment. Thanks to all for offering their input.
  3. we’ll see. I texted as her plane was taking off. Also promised to get rid of all the meh Audio equipment I’ve been keeping around. tbh it’ll be quite easy now.
  4. I picked them up and been listening for 30 minutes. HOLY SHIT… chills. With the right recordings, It’s like listening with headphones that immerse your entire body. Haven’t felt that except at a concert. Ramsey Lewis Trio, Jacob Collier, Tori Kelly, Mozart, Ty Dolla Sign… these do it better than anything I’ve ever heard in a home setting. I was seriously considering getting the Quartets for a good bit cheaper, and maybe I would have loved those too, but man, I’m not complaining one bit. As far as moving them, I did need help getting them into my Honda sedan (one in back seat, one hanging out the trunk), but I successfully gently unloaded them, got them on the dolly, and got them up 2 big flights of stairs on my own. I’m not a big guy either—130 lbs. Worth every penny. Wife is on her way home after being away for a week. Surprise!
  5. Yes, it seems like they are. Fingers crossed. I will be moving with help from dolly, so I hope I can get them 98% into position and then just shimmy as needed. I'll probably put them on a towel or something.
  6. I am picking up on Friday! Hopefully I can dolly them up stairs... 90 lbs cabinets solo is tough to wrangle. I may need (will likely need) to ask a neighbor for help. I'm going to clear out a bunch of audio stuff I don't use anymore to justify these. Can't wait.
  7. I'm picking up a very nice pair of original, consecutive Klipsch Chorus I's (no modifications or upgrades). I'm going to put these in a 500 sq ft space right now. I have the following receivers/amps (and wpc at 8 ohms): Marantz PM8006 80 wpc My go-to right now Carver HD772 140 wpc I will need to repair, as it just stopped turning on... I think it's a straightforward fix Sony DA4400ES home theatre receiver 120 wpc Got free. I don't love the sound from this unit. Two Niles 1230 12-channel amp 80 wpc when bridged Got free. Not sure if I can configure for more power output. Have not set up yet. Linn LK100: 50 wpc Got free. Have not set up yet. Unfortunately, from what I've read perhaps everything except maybe my awesome Carver would a poor fit for these speakers. Will the Carver receiver or any of the above be sufficient for showcasing these speakers? Will they sound "bad" on the PM8006 when played a reasonably lower levels for regular listening? Would I be better off selling everything and getting a single really nice high powered amp?
  8. Listening area could range from 200 sqft (if kept in a room) to about 500 sq ft. (If I keep in the main living space, which is more likely). I don’t listen super loud, though.
  9. If I did get the Chorus I, I also have a Sony home theatre receiver (4400es) that outputs 125wpc at 8ohms. Would that be better than the Marantz for showcasing them? To be honest, I don’t love the sound that comes out of it, but it does have more power.
  10. Major edit: this is actually a late model Chorus I (1989). does that change folks opinion of this Heresy vs Chorus decision?
  11. Could you elaborate? I thought they don’t need a ton a power to drive these because they are so efficient. What would be an appropriate power output?
  12. I have not listened to either. I heard an older Klipsch at a noisy holiday party a few years ago and couldn’t believe how good they sounded. I think it was a Heresy model. I then connected my phone to a pair of Fortes II at an AirBnB this summer and was floored at the vividness and depth. It sounded like Raffi was right there playing for the kids. In short, I think I caught the Klipsch bug I’m trying to itch it with the best that I can find right now. I’m wondering which would be more versatile or shine better in a 400-600 sq ft space as well as a 200 sq ft space? It’s likely that over the years I’ll be moving it around as we renovate.
  13. I have an opportunity to purchase a Hereitage Heresy IV for about $1800 or Chorus II for $1500. (MAJOR EDIT: actually it’s a Chorus I 1989). Wondering how you would go about deciding between these two options. My feeling is the Heresy IV will have better long term value given its age (a few years old vs 34 years old) and may even sound “better” except in the lowest end. I do have a couple nice subs that I’d be happy to connect if needed but I would prefer to just have 2 speakers rather than managing a sub as well. Amp is Marantz PM8006.
