  1. Got it up and running w/o any issues. Just running a AT-VM95E until my XV-1s returns from a rebuild. Nice quiet MM phono stage.
  2. I'm just wanting to verify if what's in the book on page 71 is accurate.
  3. Thanks Cal, I was hoping you'd see the post. I have the origl VTL book and it does go into some details regarding the Super Deluxe phono stage and states the Ultimate and SDL have the same phono section. I'm primarily interested in finding out the values of each of the dip switches in the mc settings. I'm getting conflicting values on some switches between the 2 switch banks when I measure from 1 to 8 in the "on" position. Unfortunately I haven't received any response from VTL. My MC cartridge is being rebuilt atm. Here's an excerpt from the book on the SDL & Ultimate preamps... Shawn
  4. I found out from a CAM member that due to the implementation of the dip switches assy that we should be able to just measure across each switch individually, when it's in the "on" position, with an ohmmeter to ascertain the value of each one. They do sum if in the "on position". I'll try it tomorrow and will post the values I find.
  5. Thanks mikebse2a3. I did see those on Stereonet and saved them to my computer. I actually am heading out to the post office this morning to pick up a copy of The VTL Book Vol 1 that I found on Ebay. I believe that's where those pictures are from. I thought I'd be able to just look at the resistors on the dip switches to figure out what the values are for each of the 8 switches but I see that they're encased in the plastic housing. I've got an XV-1s cartridge that's being rebuilt by Steve Leung at VAS at the moment and was wondering what switches would equal about 100 ohms as that's generally a good setting for it. I suppose I could put a test meter on either side of each switch while it's in the "on" position and just measure each value?
  6. I hope it's ok to post this here. Well the VTL Ultimate arrived a couple of days ago. It would be an understatement to say that all the tubes arrived in less than ideal condition. It's a shame as they seem to have been Ei tubes which are apparently nice European tubes. Luckily the rest of it seems to have survived intact! I have a set of 12ax7 The Fisher branded Telefunken that a CAM member was nice enough to sell me from his private stash. Now I'm just waiting for the arrival of a pair of Brimar 12at7 and I'll be ready to see what I've got. I picked up a VTL ST-85 (with the triode/pentode switch) to pair it with. Hopefully it will be a good match. No response from Bea & Luke at VTL regarding purchasing a copy of the manual. It's mostly for the MC dipswitch values I'd like it but I can probably figure them out by reading the resistor values and assume they would be wired in parallel so whichever ones are turned on would sum.
  7. First post on the site and unable to message members directly yet. Found it as I was searching for VTL Ultimate on the web as I've just purchased one and am looking for available documentation such as owners manual, schematic, etc. It's an early one - #106. Cal Blacksmith if you happen to see this post I know you still owned it as of a year ago and was wondering if you had any documents, and have the ability to scan, if you'd be willing to share a copy of whatever documentation you might have. I have found a copy of the VTL book vol 1 by David Manley and there's apparently some documentation there - hasn't arrived yet. Couldn't find anything on their site and have read they don't really make info avail or even sell it. anyways it would be nice to hear about your experiences with it over the years & what if anything you've had to repair or modify, tube experience, etc. Cheers, Shawn Kelowna, BC
