  1. OK, update. I got the 62's last week and got them hooked up. HUGE difference between them and the RS-3's. The rear channels were certainly adequate with the RS-3's but the 62's have absolutely made them come alive. They sound fantastic, even without being broken in yet, for both 5.1 music and movies. Going to watch "Dredd" tonight to really break them in. I am very happy I made this upgrade.
  2. Thought about that way back but didn't want to screw em up to make them completely unpresentable. Klipsch used to sell replacement grills but they were prohibitively expensive. Now that the 62's are on their way, I'll use the RS-3's in a different room. I'm thinking of fitting them into designated cubby-holes with acoustically transparent covers so I can still enjoy the sound but lose the aesthetic problem.
  3. Yeah and "sigh." That's probably the 62's. If you figure how long they'll stay in service and amoratize the cost, that's not bad, right? Screw it. I just bought the 62's from crutchfield. They'll be here middle of next week.
  4. Opinions all over the map....... Keep what I have, 52's are about the same, 62's are the way to go. A lot of help you guys are! [] I'll call a local dealer and if he has stock go in for an audition. I'm leaning towards the 62's - even with the sub taking care of the low frequencies, they'd probably match the frequency response of the fronts better and with the emotiva feeding all channels the same power, it might be nicer for 5.1 audio. I might even in take in my RS-3's and do a side by side comparison if they let me. Thanks!
  5. Well there's some obvious advice (smacking myself in the head). I have been buying components from crutchfield so didn't think that I could have a listen somewhere around here. I checked the dealer page and there is one fairly local that suposedly stocks the reference series. I'll give them a call and see what they stock. Crutchfield pricing is typically within a dollar of list price so unless this shop is selling higher than list, I could even buy them there and not have to wait impatiently for the UPS truck for 2 days. I agree. Get what you are going to end up with first anyway- its cheaper in the long run. thanks.
  6. Hey guys, longtime lurker, rare poster..... I try to stay away from here. Last time I visited I ended up buying an emotiva amp and panamax power supply so this is a potentially expensive forum to visit. BUT- I am going to upgrade my rears and want to see what y'all have to say. I have a Yamaha RX-V800 HT reciever running through an Emotiva UPR-500. My fronts are RF-82II's and the center is an RC-52II. The rears, right now, are RS-3's. My sub is a paradigm 10" PS series. I am happy with how the RS-3's sound but they are the white finish whereas the rest of the speakers are black and they are now messing up the overall decor in the newly redone room. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll just change the RS-3's to duty in another room. So my question is, there is a big difference in price between the 52's and 62's. Is there a big difference in sound quality between them? I noticed from the specs that the 62's go down to 50 hz instead of the 52's 58 hz but does the reciever send low frequency notes back to the rears anyway? I'd rather spend the money up front than wish I did later, but will I be just as happy with the 52's and save a couple bucks? Heck, getting the 52's would still leave me with enough money for new bluray player. thanks. John

    XXX

I bought "XXX" on DVD last week. (I saw it in the theater a few months ago). No DTS, just 5.1. Still really good sound though. Not much of a thinking man/woman's movie, but good for an hour and a half of simple entertainment. Just put the mind in neutral and coast. Shame what they did to that GTO though....
  9. I'll have to get it then. Thanks.

    DTS / DVD's

When the film is transfered to DVD and it doesn't have that option what are they to do? Refilm the credits just to eliminate the DTS logo? ---------------- I think you are right. From DTS online @ http://www.dtsonline.com/ 1. What is the main difference between DTS and Dolby Digital? Dolby uses more compression than DTS. Dolby Digital sounds good, but DTS delivers all the clarity and dynamics of the original master soundtrack. 2. Why dont all DVD releases include DTS soundtracks? DTS specializes in master quality 5.1 soundtracks, while many DVD titles offered only have mono or stereo soundtracks so they cant really utilize the superior DTS 5.1 audio format. And until recently, many studios were focused only on video extras, and were unaware of the strong consumer interest in master quality sound. However, DTS 5.1 soundtracks are becoming widely recognized as a valuable premium quality soundtrack option and many new releases will offer this exciting value-added feature. Reading more on the site, I guess that all theatres do run movies in DTS, but, like it says, until recently, most consumers were more interested in the bonus junk that came on the DVD. Its just us klipsch people that are more interested in having the sound as it was originally recorded. BTW- that site has lists of all movies and music discs recorded in DTS. Its a pretty cool reference.
  11. I've been looking around for a while and finally, last night, in Best Buy, saw the remastered DVD of the Blues Brothers. Too bad it was almost $30. Anybody here got it? How is the DVD version and remaster? This might be a good edition to my "movies that I watch when my wife isn't home" like the Reservoir Dogs (new special edition rocks!) and Blackhawk Down.

    Goldmember

Bought Goldmember last night at BestBuy for $14.99 (I didn't see it in the theatre and was pretty excited about seeing Austin in action again). Movie was kind of a letdown compared to 1 and 2, but still had a few good laughs. It comes with DTS audio. Sounds OK, nothing really special. It's an infinifilm release which has some interesting bonus features (pop-up video type of stuff). I'll surf through some more of the bonus stuff tonight....

    DTS / DVD's

I don't think we'll ever see him use DTS on one of his movies.

If it doesn't and goes straight into the trailers and FBI warnings you're usually screwed. Some companies don't even let you hit FF to skip through, so consider yourself lucky there. Some(like the almighty, why can't all DVD companies be like Anchor Bay) let you skip opening stuff. Always look under Language for DTS. Sounds good huh? ---------------- The Disney stuff (like Monsters Inc and the Toy Story movies) seems to be among the worst for the forced advertising. It comes up everytime/all the time and you just have to keep fast forwarding through tons of it. Its ridiculous that you have to endure the ads when you PAID for the movie. The new Spiderman is cool- you have to actually go to the bonus material section to preview/ view the ads. thanks again!

Say, do you happen to know how I can automatically skip past all those blasted commercials at the beginning of every DVD without hitting FF half a dozen times? Grrrrrr... John
