  1. well...one of the woofers in my CF-3's is blown, it still works, but only at very deep bass passages it sounds like it's rattling....I removed the woofer in question and played the same music and the rattling sound was not present..I examed the woofer and discovered that the voice coil indeed is questionable....sounds like it is rubbing when I gently move the cone with my hand....it is a k-1030-kn dated apr 9, 1996...klipsch says they have plenty in stock but they aint cheap...$135.00..as far as the cabinet itself goes...the back panel came loose from the side panel and I fixed it with a little glue and a wood brace inside the cab...thanks for the response...I'm debating going with the same woofer or finding a suitable substitute...any thoughts?
  2. I am using a recent pair of Klipsch CF-3's and a pair of Heresey's from 1984 in a two channel configuration. I'm running a Denon DRA 1035R receiver rated at 130 watts min rms per channel @ 8 ohms to run all four speakers...The sound is damn good but I have an oportunity to buy a friends Adcom power amp at a very good price..So here is my question....I can easily split the preamp out signal and use the Denon to run two speakers and the Adcom to run the other two...but am I really gaining anything by running two amps at 8 ohms or would it be better to just leave the Denon running both sets of speakers at 4 ohms?...I'm not sure what the Denon puts out at 4 ohms but the Adcom is rated at 80 watts per channel at 8 ohms...thanks for any advice...I'm going to hook all this crap up anyway..just want to hear from a few experts before I start blowing things up...thanks..Rick
  3. I own a pair of CF-3's for my fronts and Heresey's for my rears in a two channel bi-amped system....One of my CF-3's has developed a problem and after troubleshooting this is what I found.....one woofer is going bad...I believe the voice coil is rubbing...makes a distorted rattling sound at heavy bass passages....secondly..the cabinet itself is vibrating on the rear pannel sounding like someone is knocking at my door....I can put hand pressure on the back and it will stop.....very strange..these cabinets are built like a tank.....just wondering if anyone has encountered any similar problems with their CF-3's...My Heresey's are from 1984 and sound just as good as the day I bought them...thanks for any suggestions and tips...
  4. I own a pair of HS-3's and heresey's that have given me pleasure for years. However, one of the HS-3's developed a rattling sound when listening to heavy bass. After troubleshooting, here is what I discovered....first, one of the woofers has a bad voice coil causing a buzzing sound at loud heavy bass passages.....second, the cabinet itself is vibrating on the rear of the enclosure sounding like someone is knocking on my front door....I can eliminate this thumping by placing my hand on the back of the cabinet and applying pressure to the middle....how strange...these cabinets are built like a tank...so I thought....Klipsch wants $135.00 for a new woofer and I think I can fix the cabinet myself by adding a wood brace inside....any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I go messing things up....
