  1. Thanks for all replies, I do feel comfortable building my own center and would have a blast doing so, I enjoy wood work and have all the wood working tools that I need. The problem is, I don't know squat about speakers, I would need to know what horns, crossovers, box dimensions, where to get the stuff, ect. I will eventually get the larger heritage speakers but would like a slim line cabinet even if it's a little longer than standard. So in short if you don't mind telling me what to put in the box and where to get it or what to look for, I am more than willing to build it. Jack.
  2. I was given advice to use an Academy for center with Heresy II's given it's price I'll have to save and wait, but that's ok, however I will one day want bigger speakers for the front's, is the Academy also a good center for Cornwalls, Lasacalas, Bells, or Khorns. I will stay Heritage and I want to by a center speaker only once but didn't want to limit my options for fronts later. Thanks, Jack.
  3. I am looking for a good center for my HT, Yamaha rxv 630- heresy II fronts- kg2 surrounds. This is my first Klipsch system so I'm on a beer budget around $150 for the center, I have read that the best is another Heresy II but can't do that. The problem is that I don't know what the closest timbre match would be on this budget with those fronts. If there is none tell me what would be the smallest match and I'll just have to save a little longer. All input is greatly appreciated. Jack.
  4. I have seen this debate about Yamaha's too bright many times so when it was time to demo receivers I did it backwards, I took my newly acquired heresy II's to the Tweeter store and connected it to their wires and was able to flip between the Yamaha and the Denon set at the same levels. I could now hear both with the push of a button. what I found was the Yamaha had what I consider to be a cleaner high end where as the denon had more of a flat sound almost like some of the highs were missing, and it seems to me if anyone felt the Yamaha was too bright just knock off the edge with treble. Just my 2 cents.
  5. I have a pair of early 80's kg2's, the rear speaker's rubber surround is coming apart from the paper cone. Is there a specific glue that needs to be used, also I will need grill cloth and a Klipsch emblem. These were gimmies so I don't mind spending a little money. Thanks, Jack.
  6. All my speakers have been given to me, 2 Heresy II's and 2 kg2's are on the way, I started researching Klipsch and ended up here, almost a year now listening and learning. I know now how lucky and grateful I am to have received such nice gifts. However, Heresy II's are all I know, after learning of the Lascala and cornwall speakers I really want hear the difference. To anyone living close to Charleston S.C. I would be most thankfull if I could hear what I have been missing. Jack.
  7. You Klipschians are the best, the thing about this forum is that I can not know what I am doing, ask questions, get advise and follow it feeling confident I'm doing the right thing. Blind trust does exist. Thanks, Jack.
  8. Right now I have Heresy II fronts and a Boston Acoustic 10 inch sub, the Yamaha is 6.1 with 75 watts per channel. I should add that I am new to this and it will take a couple of years to get what I want which is all Heritage, I just couldn't pass on free klipsch speakers. I know there is a timbre match issue and others that I haven't considered and these might not be the best but hey I'm learning. Jack.
  9. Someone is going to give me a set of klipsch kg2 1983 serial 8526336 speakers, I heard that they are 4 ohm and I have a Yamaha 8 ohm receiver. Are these speakers 4 ohm? If so should I not use the Yamaha receiver. I intended to use them as rear surrounds in building my ht. Thanks for any input. Jack.
  10. I am trying to find the best way to fit 12 ga. wire into the post of the heresy II speakers, I have trimmed so much of the copper that my termination is about a 14 to 16 ga. thickness. I'm sure there is an ideal connector somewhere to install on 12 ga. to fit into the speaker post. Any ideas? Thanks, Jack.
  11. Thanks for the input, I can finish the front tighter with trim, didn't think about that, good idea! Q-Man, how tight is the opening to your tv.
  12. I have a 52" Toshiba Theatre View rptv, it is located in the room over the garage where I am building my HT. I want to recess it so it would be flush with the finished wall, there is plenty of room and it would be sealed from the heat in the attic. I am sure the tv needs air so how big does the opening need to be in relation to the size of the tv or is this a bad idea. I also want to recess my Heresy II's in the same wall at seating heigth to get the full unubstructed sound, would I loose any depth in the sound from doing this. Thanks Jack.
  13. Like most here, I want the best cables for the least amount of money. There are 2 companies on ebay selling cables that sound like quality, I feel you guys KNOW quality and am looking for your input. REDCOBRACABLE 3' component $29.95 $5.00 s&h Belden 1694a cables with Canare RCAP ends. BLUEJEANCABLE 3' component $35.95 $3.85 s&h Belden 7710a or Canare L-5cfb cables with Canare RCAP ends. This is a buy it know price. I don't need the best cables known to man, but far better than average and affordable, thats me. Thanks for your thoughts.
  14. I have read a lot of forum and advice given to me about receivers and have narrowed it down to a few. I am looking at building a heritage system as this is more affordable, I now have a pair of heresey 2's (room and price prevent better) and will hopefully have a $500 6 ch. receiver soon. One of the receivers that I am looking at has 75 watts per channel and I probably wont get much more power for that price, my preference is sound quality not quantity, however I would like a receiver with some nuts. I will have a sub at some point and more heresey 2's, so in short is 75 watts enough?
  15. Thanks for the response. I haven't listened to the Denon 1803 or the Outlaw 1050. The one day I went to look at recievers, I realized how unarmed of knowledge I was, it didn't take long to see that I needed to educate myself as best as I could before making a purchase, and a salespersons opinion about my speakers with his equiptment is not what I needed. The reciever now became secondary as I had to get to know my speakers, after reading here for a couple of days I found more information than I could consume, all this led to a somewhat educated decision, but what was equally important is that the Klipsch loyalty seems to have been earned, not demanded, therefore making it not only realiable but respected, that solidified my to all end all speaker choice and all future speakers will be Klipsch. Here, the writters to my questions and all others have helped narrow my search to 3 or 4 recievers, no longer will I go blindly to a store and allow the salesperson with the best pitch or best looking equiptment to make a sale, but now can target the equiptment you have recomended and make my choice. I am a family man as I'm sure some of you are, so the system building priority doesn't fall to the back seat, it gets stuffed in the trunk, (willingly) I might add, it will take me years to build it. I will continue to read here because I believe you have and will helped me spend my money wisely and for that I am grateful.
  16. I have no real knowledge or experience on home audio, however I think I know what I want. The reason I am writting to this forum is because a friend gave me a pair of Klipsch Heresy II speakers, they seem to be in very good condition with a dark wood that he had refinished before I recieved them, from what I have read here they are probably mid to late 80's. I told him that I had to do them justice by buy a good reciever. The price I have set is $500, originally I wanted stereo but a 6.1 may offer more versatility for the future. I want phono and cd'dvd, one unit I was considering was the Yamaha rx-v730 with 75 watts per channel, it appears to have the capabilities I want with the qualities that are discussed by most on this forum such as, Dolby pro logic II, Dolby digital, Dolby digital EX DTS and DTS "ES compatable", Cinema DSP digital, 96kHz/24-bit DACs. Has anyone heard this reciever, is 75 watts enough power, would this reciever be compatable with my speakers. I am sorry for being so long and having so many questions, ( I could go on ) but I value the opinion of the people here even though the language you speak at times is Chinese and the knowledge you posses overwhelming. Thank you for reading, any and all opinions are greatly appreciated.
