  1. Just spoke to the seller, was surprised to find out he's an old high school friend. They are KP 3802-C's. And being on a Scala-Quest at the moment I'm not going to buy them. But if anyone wants to pay me some gas for a trip to Nashville, I'll be glad to pick them up and hold onto them for an eventual pick-up.

  2. I second that. They have a real "retro" look about them which is always a plus for me. Owned two pairs over the last few years and now I'm looking for my third set. But I wouldn't dream of paying that much!

  3. Point taken. And very relevant in light of the original post. But in my defense (I'm helpless with a table saw) for the amount I'm paying I couldn't possibly get a comparable sub at retail prices for three times what this custom THTLP will cost me.

  4. I concur on the Fitzmaurice idea.Great way to get maximum sub-woofer for the buck. I am currently having a THTLP built by an approved builder from the BFM site. Supposed to pick it up Wednesday, I'm all goose-bumpy! Go to Bill's site, I'll bet he has an authorized builder near you. Great forum too.

  5. Full disclosure: I'm the guy with the custom-made Scala "top" (see C-Horn in the Garage Sale forum), I was trying to sell it but I'm going to keep it instead and have a second one built. And I have a pair of the PA style KP-1000 bass cabs that I lucked into. I've already connected the top to the KP-1000 from the C-Horn's AL-3 crossover woofer taps. It works and sounds pretty good, but not great. A little "shouty" if you know what I mean. The bass is definitely there though, and they seem to match in volume.

I am assuming the sound issue is because of the inherent mis-match you're referring to, whether it's the resistive difference between the drivers or a crossover mis-match to the K-48. Add to that the fact that the KP-1000 is a simpler ported box design, it may just not be meant to happen.

But am I hurting anything by using the KP-1000 with the Scala top? At least until I have real Scala style bass-bins built? Thanks for the help!

  6. Wondering if anyone is familiar with the Klipsch K-48 15" woofer. I have a pair and I am thinking of using them for a build of La Scala knock-offs instead of the K-33 usually used in an LS bass section. For instance, are they similar enough to use the same AL crossover?

    Any help is appreciated!

  7. Looking for these components if somebody has fully functional ones and wants to make a little extra cash right away. I'm trying to find:

    1 Klipsch K55-M mid-range driver

    1 Klipsch K-401 Squawker Horn

    1 Klipsch K-77M

Would prefer as clean as possible, and again - functioning perfectly. Paypal is my preferred payment method.

    Thanks!
