  1. The cabinets that I got with my LaScalas are very beat up and I am thinking of removing the drivers and refinishing them, or I have a chance to buy cabinets that are in perfect condition, depending which is cheaper.

So is it just a matter of unscrewing the drivers and crossovers and remounting them in either the refinished cabinets or the new ones?

How hard is it to get to the woofer?

    Thanks

    Mike

  2. I was just told by a salesman that he thought the Pioneer

DV-578A has vastly superior progressive scan and picture than the newer, DV-588A-S. He said that on the DV-588A-s, they compromised the picture quality in order to be able to play divx discs.

Of course he did not have the DV-588A-S in yet, so maybe he was just trying to get rid of the last of the DV-578A-S's.

He said that all the manufactrureres were trying to make the players cheaper with more features, hence the compromised picture.

Divx is not that important to me so should I take his word and jump on the DV-578A-S, or wait for the DV-588A-S?

Does anyone have any thoughts? Or has seen the two and know the performance?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am also making this a new topic on the Forum, since we have seem to come pretty far from the original postings.

    Thanks

  4. Just to clarify things:

I am using a second set of Forte II's already as back speakers. I switch between them in a 5.1 MUSIC configuration with the RS-7's in a 5.1 CINEMA configiuration. The Denon 3805 allows you to do that. My question was:

    Should I use the two Academys for a 7.1 setup, as rear surrounds(speaker 6 and 7 in a 7.1)?

Thanks for all the opinions so far.

    Best,

    Mike

    SETUP:

    Denon 3805

    Front: Forte II's

    Rear Forte II's

    Center: Academy

    Rear2: RS-7's

    Sub-RSW-15

    Back Surrounds?

  5. I am trying to complete my home theatre and would like suggestions about the 6th and 7th speakers(surround back).

Right now I have two Forte II's in front, an Academy for the center, two more Forte II's for Back speakers for music and two RS-7's for back speakers for movies, and an RSW 15 Sub. I want to add surround back speakers.

I am powering this setup with a Denon 3805 which allows the use of two pairs of back speakers and with switching back and forth, and allows for 2 back surrounds which are the 6th and 7th speakers that I am talking about.

I am fortunate to have two more Academys and want to know if this is a waste for the 6Th and 7Th back surround speakers or a good match, which I think is the case.

If it is not advisable to use the Academys, what would be a a good choice for a match with the rest of the system?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

    Best, Mike Frankel

  6. I have two Forte II's as fronts, an Academy for a center, an RSW 15 Sub and two more Forte II's in the back for a hopefully matched, music 5.1 system. It sure sounds perfect to me.

However, I also have a pair of RS-7's that I am going to use for "movie surrounds" on the side. I also have two more Academys(Got a great deal!) that I am going to use as "back surrounds" for a 7.1 system.

I am powering all this with a Denon 3505 whcih allows for conncetion of nine speakers, with a choice between two sets of surrounds.

When I get all this hooked up I will let you know the result. So far I just have the 5.1 system working and I love it. SACD's and DVD-A's sound great!

    Mike

  7. Sounds like a sub is the way to go. I am looking at Sunfire(for size), REL, and Velodyne.

Are there any comments on specific models that may match up well with the La Scalas?

SDoes anyone other than Craig ahve any experience with the new Klipsch THX Ultra subs, and are they good for music?

    Thanks Again,

    Mike

  8. Thanks for all the replies. I have heard these La Scalas outdoors when I first saw them at about 30 yards, and they sounded great. Of course the owner turned them down before the neighbors complained, but they sounded powerful and clear!!!!

I gues I will listen to them first home, and see what I feel they need. I will of course, stay with a musical sub, and will check out the suggestions, from all the members who mentioned their favorite.

    KLIPSCH heaven-here I come!!!!!!!

  9. I would like to inquire as to how many of you fine people are running La Scalas in a two channel setup and find the need for a subwoofer.

I am about to get a pair of La Scalas and intend to use them for a two channel system.

What are the pros and cons of adding a sub?

Thanks for any help on this.

  10. i have to agree with Allen on "El Aurens".

If one wants to learn about the entire mid east situation, including Iraq, all one has to do is watch this film. It lays it all out, chapter and verse, how it is a no-win situation for any western country to be involved there.

  11. i thought everyone might like to see my new dog Satch, who wandered into my life 3 weeks ago at a gas station in northern Arizona. We think he is a "Shar-Pit", a pit bull, shar-pei mix. He is the biggest sweetheart we have ever know-so thankful to have been rescued from what have must have been a hellish life. He now has his own bed and toys for undoubtably the first time in his life.

    Hope you all like him.

    Mike
