  1. One more question. If I want to use the Burr-brown decoders from the yamaha for a CD, what setting do I put the Receiver on? I know that I am running analog RCA's, so do I set the receiver to a direct setting? If I set the receiver to PLII or 5CH Stereo is it corrupting the decoding of the burr-browns and adding its own decoding? Thanks again.
  2. 4 questions for now background: Denon 2803, Yamaha DV-C920, RF-3II fronts and RC-3II Center, Quintet rears(only 2 surrounds), and an SVS 20-39PCi sub(WOW!! is this thing gigantic reading the dimensions does not prepare you for the fuzzy terror tube you will be receiving, but hot damn can it hit). I run an optical from the Yamaha for DVD's and RCA's for CD's as the Yamaha has the famed Burr-Browns. I just bought all this stuff and no longer have a penny to my name. In fact my next paycheck is already spoken for. However, watching U-571 last night made it all worth it! 1) If I am listening to DVD-Audio should I use a digital line to my Denon 2803 or should I use the Burr-Brown decoders in my Yamaha DV-C920 DVD player by employing analog RCA's as I do to listen to CD's? 2) When viewing a movie with a digital signal that is 2 channel, what is the best format to use PLII, DTS Neo6?? 3) If a movie has both Dolby Digital and DTS do I select which one I wish to use on the DVD players menu or on the receiver or both? 4) When watching a movie like "Immortal Beloved" (an incredible movie by the way that I highly recommend and is worth the purchase for the soundtrack alone) that has an incredible classical soundtrack would I use the Burr-Brown decoders on the Yamaha? If I used the optical and Dolby Digital to the receiver would I use a PLII music setting or Dolby Digital cinema? Thanks for helping me. I know that I have been asking alot of questions since I got here and have offered no help to others, but with my limited experience I prefer to keep my mouth shut.
  3. Quick question: If I have a yamaha C920 DVD/CD player and I use analog RCA's to listen to music decoded by the burr browns in the yamaha, and when I watch DVD's I use optical out and let my Denon 2803 do the decoding. Which setting would I use for DVD-Audio? Thanks
  4. OK, I didn't realize i had to do anything other than turn on the optical out. I hope this was the problem. Thanks
  5. I had set the PS2 optical out to on. Where is there a Dolby Digital or DTS item to turn on? The receiver was set to auto as well.
  6. I ran an optical from the PS2 and set it to use the optical cable rather than the rca's. I also set the receiver to use the optical input but it still did not make the receiver go digital when playing Jurassic Park.
  7. OK, I was trying to watch some DVD's yesterday and could not figure out how to put the receiver in DTS or Dolby Digital. I was using a PS2 as a DVD player and was not sure if that wast the problem. On the Denon 2803 receiver, I would hit the DTS button for digital data decoding but there would be no sound until I put it back on PCV or PCM or whatever the other setting is. How do I make the receiver use DTS or Dolby Digital? If I set it to auto should it automatically go to whatever the format is on the DVD or does the DVD have to have some type of flag encoded for the receiver to recognize? Is the problem using my playstation as a DVD player? When the receiver does use DTS will it default to matrix encoded because the system is 5.1? Thanks for your help
  8. Well I got my Home Theater set up finally. RF-3II front's and center along with quintet rears(all I can currently afford) and a 20-39PCi. I was running Avia to tune my speakers and I had a problem. When I was doing the LFE tuning where it starts at 150 and goes down to 20Hz I was only getting LFE from the fronts and center. When the sweep ran on the rears it wouldn't send anything to the sub unless it was inaudible or something. Sometimes it would send a signal to the sub and sometimes not. It was strange. Then when it tests just the LFE spl going from speaker to speaker and playing just LFE it works everywhere but the right surround. I tried it in 5 channel stereo and in PLII for music. The crossover was set at 80Hz and all speakers are set to small. The receiver is a Denon 2803 and the DVD player is a PS2 right now which may be the problem. I am picking up a yamaha C920 today so perhaps that would fix the problem. Thanks for any input
  9. I was going to run analog RCA's for CD music, but the Yamaha has Burr-Brown decoders which would be better than the CP-72. I think that the CP-72 is very similar as far as DVD playing goes, but what you are paying for with the Yamaha is the addition of the better music decoders.
  10. I think I am leaning toward the Yamaha, it seems to have the best of both worlds.
  11. I am looking at: Yamaha DVD-C920/DV-C6480 Panasonic CP-72 Denon 1805 This will also be my CD player. Which is the best deal? I have Denon 2803 receiver and a Panasonic 36" HDTV Monitor. Thanks
  12. I can get a PW-2200 for a little less than a PB1 from a friend/dealer I know. Is the 2200 the clear choice here? Thanks
  13. What should I set my Rf-3 fronts to when I add an SVS to the HT? Thanks
  14. Oh yeah, I am also looking at the Shiva Dharman Decisions decisions
  15. I said screw it. I am just going to get either a 20-39, a 25-31, or a PB1-ISD. I will just fave to hold off on the RS-3 surrounds and get something a cheaper to hold me up for a while. I would rather have a great sub and average surrounds than a crappy sub and great surrounds. Now, I just have to figure out which one is right for me. Any ideas on cheap decent surrounds? I am a broke law student. Thanks for all your input
