Jennie DeVoe Album Release

Recommended Posts

News Here on the release of Klipsch Reference/Legends gal Jennie DeVoe's album release party on July17st. Album is set for release on Tuesday the 21st. That's this Friday at the Rathskeller, downtown Indy. I'll be there helping DeVoe soundman Karl Bruhn setup up his fantastic rig.

Other gigs this weekend include Devon Allman (yes from that family) also at Rathskeller tonight. He brings the same mellow soulsy sounds that father Gregg has.

Jennie's the one in the middle, with the wild blonde locks, guitar, and sultry blues gal voice.

...an endearing soul-blues singer who radiates the vibe of a 21st
century flower child. Her potent gospel voice tames any crowd she
encounters. DeVoe is now inhabiting the dangerous, psychedelic space of
icon Janis Joplin. Fireworks & Karate Supplies is an important and
irresistible leap forward. Consider all DeVoe's dues paid with this
record."

just come on down tonight around 6-probably $5 at the door.

Rathskellar is SE of the Murat, enter off the alley SE of the Anthaneum building (looks like brick gymnasium)

Stop by the sound board and say hello. I'll be the one with all the hair.

Great job M. Sound was excellent. Weather was perfect. Who would think you would need a jacket, in July, in Indiana? Crowd was at least 1500 thinking maybe 2000, boy can Jennie sing. Everyone should hear her if given the chance. My better half enjoyed it also, but her feet got a little tired from standing all night. Enjoyed visiting with you. Hope you make it through your busy weekend. BadDad

Hey, thanks for coming down, always good to see a Klipsch Brother in the crowd. Hope you enjoyed your mini tour of the sound system (BadDad got my attention right at break so we got to chat a bit). Jennie was smoking tonight, I thought her stage presense and rapport with the audience was fantastic. She really knows how to connect with a crowd.

Gotta get to beddies, setting up the Colter PA tomorrow morning, and a mini system around noon. Gonna be a LONG weekend, but the weather is perfect!

Yeah, my feet are on FIRE.

In 2004, Indianapolis-based singer-songwriter Jennie DeVoe packed
her suitcase and guitar for a trip across the pond to the English spa
town of Bath. She had enlisted the aid of

PJ Harvey
collaborator, multi-instrumentalist, and, most importantly, producer John Parish for her third album Fireworks & Karate Supplies.
The intimate, bluesy record she brought home from that visit garnered
critical praise and some serious radio play back in the States.

Five years on, DeVoe has returned to Bath, and to Parish, for her follow-up studio album, Strange Sunshine.
This time around, however, she paid for her touring band to come along
for the ride. The resulting album demands respect as quavering tremelo
guitar, floating Mellotron, and piercing Hammond B3 organ provide the
tight backing-groove for DeVoe’s sultry, honey-eyed vocals to evolve
from a confidential rasp ("Strange Sunshine") to sanctified blues
belter ("Foolproof"), and on to soulful powerhouse gospel ("I Break
Down"), before slipping back into a sensual country-shuffle,
accompanied by Parish on banjo, that references Cher’s “Gypsies, Tramps
and Thieves” on the optimistic “

Blind Faith”
. Strange Sunshine
is a record of highlights where tales of broken hearts and tumultuous
relationships have never sounded so sassy, yet at the same time so
seductively heartwrenching—quite an achievement in itself.
