K-74 (KG4) diapragm replacement?

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a pair of used KG-4's, and while they sound pretty good, I can tell that the diapragm in one of the horns is going out. (crackling at some frequencies, lower volume on horn)

I've ordered a replacement diaphragm from Klipsch, but I'm not sure if I need to take it to a shop or if this is something I can do myself.

Anyone have some insight on this?

Thanks,

-David

I haven't yet had these things apart (since I'm still waiting on the new diaphragm).

Is it literally as simple as unbolting the lens, desoldering the diaphragm, and popping the new one in?

Are there any special alignment or cleaning procedures that I need to be concerned with?

Thanks for your help,

-David
