I have a Radio Shack one (was about $50) between my VCR and my Denon, to eliminate the elecrical connection that was causing a ground loop hum. It works just great! But I'm curious why you want to put a converter in there, rather than using the analog connection? The extra conversion step can only introduce potential for more distortion, IMO.
