quadklipsh
hi all . i came across sansui AU-6500, for a reasonable price . sure its a 30 watt amp . but is it going to be any better or equal than 2230 marantz . other wise im not willing to pile up vintage gear if they are not significantly better . quadklipsh
1972, Sansui introduced the integrated amplifier AU-9500 along with less expensive models AU-6500, AU-7500, and AU-8500. These amplifiers were well built, and very heavy with massive power transformers and heat syncs. With the distinguished look of the front panel, it was simply called, Âthe Black Face. Sound-wise, it was the extension of the single number three digits series, and had rich tube like low frequency with the natural mid to high sound. It seems being reached to the maturity of the first generation of solid state amplifiers.
moray james
The AUD 11 Mkll is hard to find but an excellent design with a great phono stage and has lots of power. My friend John Wright of Museatex modified his to have a mosfet output stage. The mosfet output stage allowed a lot of protection circuitry to be removed which was in place to protect the stock transistor output stage. Ultra low distortion amp by any standard. The "X" series and later Alpha series are very good but they tend to be hard to find and do get expensive. Best regards Moray James.
quadklipsh
moray, the x series and the alpha sansuis are somewhat available here.you tell which one the following to get ; alpha 607,707,907dr and 907 limited. theres also a sansui DG 999. which sounds different from all the above as it produces more of the mid band nicely
moray james
without being able to look at the schematic diagrams and getting comments from my friend John I would not be able to comment on these amps as I have not heard them personally. The balanced front end of the Alpha units is good but I don't know if the second stages are fully cascoded or folded cascode type. Audition as many as you can and decide for yourself. Best regards Moray James.
