TimmayC
A guy at work bought the pro media 2.1 system because we all stream pandora with our cell phones. It sounded great so I went to the store and bought the same system. After a week the sub blew and was rattling like crazy. I never turn the base higher than where the mark is on the dial and that is less than half. I also never turn it all the way up because its just too loud. I returned that system and got a replacement 3 weeks ago. Now this one blew! Also my coworkers system broke last week when the sub just decided to not work anymore. It did not blow it just stopped completely. So I get to make a trip to Best Buy today to replace it again. This is quite frustrating since the sound is pretty good when it works but I dont want to run to the store every month because it breaks. Any suggestions? TwoCables
My best suggestion would be to start hunting on eBay for the older ProMedia 2.1s - the ones where the speaker wires actually plug into the satellites. For some reason, it seems that Klipsch thinks it's a good idea to ruin the ProMedia 2.1's once great reputation by producing crappy versions now. Here are two that I found and already recommended to someone else today here on the Klipsch forums: $117.99 after shipping: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-THX-Computer-Speaker-System-IN-EXCELLENT-SHAPE-CONDITION-/251852071938 $115.00 after shipping: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-THX-Speaker-System-3-Piece-one-extra-speaker-/301565171795 The second one here comes with an extra plug-in satellite speaker for some reason (lol), but that's nice because it would come in handy for spare parts if they're ever needed. However, I don't see the speaker wires in any of their photos. So, I would ask the sellers if they still have them. If they don't, then you can buy these wires linked below, which are a pretty big upgrade anyway and are easily worth more the $30.25 after shipping that they cost: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-Premium-Speaker-Wires-Custom-Made-Pair-10-/121597099798 The wires that they used are Monster XP wires: http://www.monsterproducts.com/Monster_XP_Clear_Jacket_Compact_Speaker_Cable More details here: http://wwv.crutchfield.com/p_119XPMS202/Monster-XP-20-feet.html The plugs are here: http://www.rean-connectors.com/en/products/35-mm-plugs/nys226bg Here's the ProMedia 2.1 system that I was lucky enough to find just a few weeks ago: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-THX-PC-Computer-Speakers-Mint-in-box-barely-used-complete-/331455770015?nma=true&si=8dghEviaEshqqPlULaRpEQCosAI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 You have to scroll down to see the original listing of course, but still. I paid $141.19 for this when I could have paid $139.99 for a brand new one directly from Klipsch and regretted it. I think that I made the right choice! jacksonbart
Sounds like you need to turn it way down.
