2 centers and 2 subs

I am looking to complete my home theater. I have the following system.

Center - KLF-C7

Fronts - Klipschhorns

Surround - Heresy's

Sub - M&K 350THX

AV - Denon 4800

DVD - Denon 3800

Power - Monster Power 5000

TV - Mitsubishi 73" 907

HD - SonyHD100

Directv and cable

I wanted a Bell as a center, however, as this requires 36" it was not practical with my TV. It was suggested that I add another KLF-C7 as a second center. Any opinion's? Would the RC-7 match?

Also I was told that adding a second M&K 350-would improve by 4-6db the sub performance. Any opinions'? Also the 350 THX is now a 350THX ultra. I was told this only increased bass options and would match perfectly?

I have read the board the past two years and find the comments extremely valuable.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, dadfey, but Klipschorns and KLF-C7's are NOT a good match! Take it from someone who owns both... but use them on different systems. PWK designed the Heritage line to work together... the C7 was to be matched with the Legends... which have a substantially different set of timbre characteristics.

Your best bet would probably be an inverted Heresey or LaScala mounted to the wall. If decor considerations are overwhelming, the closest Klipsch match in a smaller center would be an Academy (which I use as a rear effects speaker with my Klipschorn music system).

You might try using the K-horns using a phantom channel provision on your receiver... and, when seated in the center of the sweet spot, that will give you an idea of how a K-horn center should sound.

Just think, when you are playing a DVD movie... over 75% of the sound is going through your KLF-C7 while your Klipschorn mains are just loafing along. The reason for a center speaker is to anchor most dialog to the screen and fill in the "sonic hole" between widely spaced K-horns. Of course, that's how PWK had his rigged with a "WAF designed" Belle in the middle.

Frankly, I was not satisfied with my center speaker on the HT rig until I equaled the center speaker character by adding a modified KLF-30. For comparison, the two front effects speakers are KLF-C7's. The first C-7 was bought from a dejected Heritage owner who bought it new and after a week decided he needed more of a center. Adding a second miss-matched timbre speaker will only make things worse.

The Dolby Reference Level for Commercial Theaters is 121.5 dB... and relatively few come up to that standard of good, clean, non-boomy bass. It takes twice the power to raise your SPL by 6 dB. Putting your sub in a good bass corner will also raise your SPL by 6 dB. My bass tower exceeds Reference Level by 1 dB... this means that I can listen to my main speakers at a comfortable 70 dB... but my sub tower will catch those split-second sub 80Hz loud sounds and accurately convey them... creating a much enhanced realism in DVD movies.

I know the center channel problem is a thorny one with a large screen (my Mitsu is only 65" cwm34.gif ). I wish they would build their RPHD units with open space that would be sufficient for adequate center speakers. -HornED

Thanks for the input. What would you say to my using my Heresy's as the center. If this is not good I will see if I can get a cabinet made to raise the TV and replace the KLF C-7 with the Belle. To be honest I have not been satisfied with the my current combination either. What would you suggest for surrounds? Thanks again.
