boa12
Big news is HBO is now broadcasting "The Sopranos" in DD 5.1. They're coming along, slowly but surely. "Texas Instruments to Build Chip for Set-Top Boxes Dallas: Texas Instruments Inc., whose semiconductors powered half the mobile phones sold last year, is building a chip to enter the market for video-conferencing equipment and set-top boxes that connect to the Internet. The new ``digital media processor'' consumes half as much power and has twice the performance of rivals when translating video data into a picture, said Eric Braddom, manager of the unit developing the chip, in an interview. Texas Instruments has been shoring up its video products, adding chips for digital projectors, cameras and hand-held computers. The new processor makes video ``streamed'' to a computer or television easier to watch. Analysts said together with new software from Microsoft Corp., the chip could help jumpstart demand for set-top boxes and video-on-demand services. ``Hollywood people have been dragging their feet on digital video because they're very persnickety about'' the video's quality, said Gerry Kaufhold, an analyst at In-Stat/MDR. ``Now they're saying the quality is where it needs to be.''" ------------------ My Home Systems Page
