K-53 replaced with K-55?

Recommended Posts

Howdy, just wondering if anybody knows if I can(should?) replace my K-53 mids with a pair of K-55 mids, given the chance. I have a set of KP-201's that i was thinking about changing around a bit, just for fun. i am also condidering the Layne audio K-24 woofer replacement for the same speakers--any thoughts?

thanks in advance.

The squawker change should work just fine. The K-53-K was used as a replacement for the K-55-V in the Heresy during the last few years. The only difference in the crossover was the addition of a 33 uF cap in the bass circuit on the E2 crossover. Don't know if that had to do with the K-53-K driver or the change in woofer that happened at the same time. So, you might have to play with the crossover.

Don't see why the Layne Audio K24 replacement shouldn't work as well.

Hello Gsoneill:

Yes...give me an idae what you are thinking. I would love to come up with a 701 horn (think that is right for a Heresy II) and a K-53. I know the K-53 is not as desiable as a K-55, but they are the best voice match to my Heresy II's and the Forte which is next on my "to get" list. Are you looking to move one or both of a pair of working drivers?

Hope your bidding goes well.

Till later
