Why do I have to Turn the Volume to 2-3 o'clock to hear a BUM

I have the KSW-12 Powered Sub I just purchased to accommodate my JBL ND-310's and to be honest with you, the dual 10 inch woofers put out more bass than this does. It seems I have to turn the volume up to 2-3 (7-8)sometimes higher to get the "BASS" feeling or the "THUMP". I am using the Monster Subwoofer cable with the "Y" connector and all the other good stuff. I adjusted the Hertz or Line Level input with still no success. Do I need to turn this unit back in for a new one? Or is there something I am missing. The location of this speaker is right next to my Main Speakers with the bass side port facing the wall. Thanks

Just to be sure -- is the sub configured in your receiver's/pre-amp's bass management (sub=yes)? Are your front speakers set to large or small? Are you sending all bass to the sub or only what's on the .1 LFE channel (which doesn't typically have much content)? Is this a two-channel or Home Theater setup? What receiver/pre-amp are you using?
