danepants
Hello there, I have been sitting on a pair of very, VERY nice physical condition Heresy 1s in HWO with flat risers that have one (ok two) little problem with the K-22-E woofers. While the woofers are in fine physical shape generally, on each, the spider has become cleanly unglued from where it meets the rear frame of the woofer. A prior owner used reenforced tape pieces to stick one spider down, though that tape has since been removed with no reside on the spider. I am looking for advice on the extent of repairs needed. While I could simply stick the spider back down with slow set 2-part epoxy after degreasing the frame surface, I am not positive on whether the dust caps will need to be removed and the voice coil re-centered or not first. The woofers seem to put the spider in the same place every time the joint is exposed. Would simply sticking them bottom of the spider down in the place it likes to rest be a bad idea? I have attached a few photos to illustrate. These things are super clean and I'd love to put them into service ASAP. danepants
Alternatively if you all have suggestions on a good speaker repair shop which I can ship the woofers out to in order to get them sorted, I would be much obliged! Curious_George
Is the entire spider loose or just a partial area of the spider? You could re-glue the spider back down with slow setting epoxy and the surround should keep the cone centered if you are careful. I have re-coned speakers before and epoxy is normally used on the spider to top plate / basket interface.
danepants
@Curious_George The spider is completely detached from the frame where it was glued down. It looks like the glue 100% Failed. I am leaning towards sending these out to a repair shop to ensure that they get done properly. Any suggestions there would be much appreciated! Curious_George
I don't have any suggestions for a speaker repair facility. Most shops will probably want to remove the dust cap so they can ensure the voice coil is centered. However, unless a near identical dust cap is used, the mid-range performance of the woofer will be slightly different. This may or may not be audible, but your woofers will be back in operation.
