what will happen if . . .

This is rather a dumb question for most of you but I don't want to learn this lesson the hard (expensive)way.

A friend of mine sold me a pair of good 8-ohm speakers. What will happen if I connect them to a Promedia 4.1 as front speakers knowing that PM4.1 expects 4-ohm speakers ?

probably nothing, other than the speakers would not be as loud as if they were 4-ohm speakers - that is instead of 60 watts going to each speaker, only 30 watts would. However, if those speakers are really efficient, they should get plenty loud. BTW, what kind of speakers are they? Going from 4 ohm to 8 ohm should not hurt, whereas if you went the other way, you could overheat the amp.
