Strange whistling sound in a pair of The Fives

Hey guys,

I bought a pair of The Fives a few weeks back, and noticed a few days ago that there's an oscillating whistling sound coming from the right speaker when left turned on and idle. It kind of sounds like a tea kettle heating up with the frequent change in pitch and volume. I can maybe upload an audio clip of the sound if need be, but the tea kettle description is pretty apt.

The sound persists across all inputs, and goes away when the speakers are turned off. The sound also stays in the right speaker if I switch it to be the left channel, and also when moved to a different room in the house. The sound seems to be coming from the top half of the speaker. It can range from being quieter than the general expected powered speaker hiss, to a little louder than it. Enough to be distracting if near by. Haven't found anything that triggers the change in volume, seems random.

I'm out of ideas on what this could be besides a defect, so I'm hoping to get some second opinions here before I go through the hassle of trying to get replacements. I've already had some trouble with the store I bought them from.

I've sent in a support ticket to get my question answered as well, but I'm running out of days on my in-store warranty so I just want to cover all my bases in case it takes a while to get a response from support directly.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated.
