I have 4 cinder blocks stacked in a cube for my Fortes, covered with black velvet for that theater-like touch. What model are those speakers on the floor? Have you tried tipping them up a bit? You'll get a lot more presence if the horns are aimed at your listening area? Likewise, have you tried tipping the center channel down? Steve C Posted May 4, 2001 Author Share Posted May 4, 2001 Doug, Thanks for the reply. The speakers are 78 Heresy's. The center is a KV2 which has a pole on the back of it which angles it down to the listening area. The sub is an SW8-2 which provides plenty of bass for movies. I have KG1.2's for the surrounds. I have included a pic of them and their location. They are about 7' above the listening area and to the sides. The brackets allow to angle them to diffuse the sound either behind or in front of the listening area. If I could find some dipoles it would probably create a larger soundfield but for music listening it is just fine. The system is an old Sony Pro Logic reciever but I have a Thorens turntable that I like to drag out the Mobile Fidelity albums and listen to. Also have an old Grommes tube amp that the Heresy's sound incredibly detailed on. You do not have to have a sub with tubes to get great bass. Besides if the sub is turned up for movies you get some rumble from the Thorens even though it is a great turntable. Thanks, Steve Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

T2K Posted May 5, 2001 Share Posted May 5, 2001 SteveC, neat set-up.Like the rug too.You said something about dipole surrounds.I bought recently a new-in-box pair of Klipsch KT-DS THX dipole surrounds for $349.Haven't tried them out yet but another pair may be available,if you are interested.I don't have the specs in front of me but I believe the woofs/tweets were as the KG2.5.Could double check in interested.Happy listening. The SW 8 II is a suprising little sub,I have 2 in my bedroom.They were part of a deal that I got on a pair of '96 Heresy's.They do a great job on movies or music. Steve C Posted May 8, 2001 Author Share Posted May 8, 2001 Thanks for the replies. One thing is that the listening area is about 12' from the front speakers. The room is 24' long. I moved the couch closer by 1 foot and the sound changed dramatically. There was an abnormal rise in bass response. Moved it 1 foot closer and that rise had gone away. Looks like I found that organ pipe. The bass changed from a continuous blur to tight and refined. I guess room modes do have an effect. Just got the Yes Live at the House of Blues last night.
